Which year’s earnings is that referring to? 2017 I assume given RTE’s previous form in not releasing the figures for 2 to 3 years after the year in question. Might as well make it 4.

On 2 occasions they have back dated them, this will be the third time they do this

Last publication of these was in 2018 for 2016 and also 2015 AFAIK

2017 - 2019 postponed by 2 years
2018 - 2020 postponed by a year
2019 - 2021 should be published with above mid-2021 I suspect

They should name the spokesperson

Interesting that it would be asked. So the so called Future of Media has already a pre-existing conclusion or conclusions.

They have decided that the closing date for the public to be involved is the 8th of Janurary.

I agree. It's like watching a maths teacher demonstrating how to solve an equation; he already knows the answer. It's a foregone conclusion and my bet is that it will be enforceable by the Revenue, as it is in other countries. Default on your LPT (which includes the media charge) in France and the Revenue will be shaking out your pockets for spare change, backed by the Police.

The difference between now and when it is introduced(if it is introduced) is that the press releases from Government and NGOs will still be carried by the media and the PR Officers will still dictate what is reported, when it is reported(embargos) and how it is reported but the Citizen will be forced to pay for the platform through which they disseminate their propaganda.

There is no independent journalism left in Ireland and no Journalist can be independent, if they relies on the government subsiding their paycheck.

There is no independent journalism left in Ireland and no Journalist can be independent, if they relies on the government subsiding their paycheck.

The tragedy is that... an aspiring journalist gets into the job because they want to report the facts.
They don't want to be some spindoctor.

Or they end up reporting an absolutely s***ty news item that their editor insists is news worthy.

You just know that there are more and more journalists who wish to do exactly what that journo did, but they can't... cos a paycheck is a paycheck.

Am I imagining it or were the political polls always announced on RTÉ Nine News the night before, with the political correspondents going through the the reasons that parties might have seen a drop and others might have seen an increase in support?

It seems now that RTÉ rarely make a statement on political polls. Why would this be?

Nothing on either last nights news or today's one o'clock news, nothing that I could find on their website.

There's circa 10 new presenters since Covid broke out on RTE weather, news, current affairs, should RTE hire 100 more people in the next year to stop these people being hired by BBC or CNN? Every other media company in the country is letting people go.

And not one of them is up for the job - the new girl and guy they have on PT are useless beyond belief (the guy is worse)
Normally you see people working up to these kind of jobs but not in RTE

The new girl is also on Morning Ireland now, she sure is going places fast for someone that was unheard of a few months ago.

Speaking of Covid, there was "exponential" hysteria on the RTE Morning Ireland show this morning. The RTE presenter, rudely interrupted a virologist who was in the middle of answering a previous question, and was asked whether there should be a cargo blockade of UK goods coming into Ireland. When I say "asked", she (the RTE presenter) was actually making a statement, and hoping to hear confirmation ........ from the virologist about an economic blockade.

RTE; they can indeed be trusted ........ to continue with their partial and biased reporting of news and events.
