An 2015 A4. No didn't bother, a lot of them weren't sitting right with us. One owner company car bought in the UK. Bought last Monday, just delays in getting it brought over. Should do the trick.

Lads is there any pros or cons in going for a tyre with a higher load index, eg. from 96 to 100? Apart from price? I'm guessing it will last longer but fuel consumption might be worse.

It will usually make the car ride harder.

Not too bad. Is it a 150bhp model I assume most of them are ? Assume it’s the last of the B8 model ?

It's actually a 163bhp. Took a while to find one as most are the 136bhp. Should have a nice bit of poke. It's an SE Ultra Tecknik. Last of the b8 so it has a nice few extras, leather seats etc. The new model was a nice few extra beans. It's for the mother and she has zero interest in cars so she couldn't justify the extra for an sline.

Yes really nothing wrong with the SE for those not into cars there is often a bit of a price difference in it. My dad has a 177bhp 141 A4 SE and it has a lot of extras on it. Hasn't given him any trouble and it has high enough mileage at this point on it.

In other news have the Golf coming up on 4 weeks. TBH I am actually not sure what to make of it. Its not what I expected yet I am not sure what I was expecting it to be like either  I think between the choice of the golf and Leon I made the right choice. Being honest it is plenty powerful enough for what I want I haven't been in a situation yet where I thought god it could do with another few BHP like a Cupra has.

It gets a serious amount of attention and I think that's probably more to do with where I live its not a common car you would see like if I lived in Cork or Dublin where there are loads of them I don't think it would be like that at all. Genuinely its not something that ever really crossed my mind when I was buying it so I hadn't been expecting it.

How is the insurance situation with it ? Guessing it was a few quid more than the A4 ?

About €220 extra to change with over 10 months left on the policy so for a year your taking ~€900 fairly good considering I am 25.

That's not bad at all CIP. Probably would of being a lot worse if you were under 25. I'd probably bet that it would be worse if you were on a MK5 GTi.

Starting to get an itch for something else and I only have the S40 a month. It's a great solid car but is very thirsty on the motorways im finding and that's not even doing 120. Thankfully I don't be on them much but it's a bit painful when I am. I've 4 new plugs there to go in so hopefully I'll see an improvment.

Volvo must of tweaked the MTX-75 box because 5th defiantly has a longer range on the Mondeos.

This was a bad one. Driver crashes into 12 parked cars, including a mac laren.

I find having the likes of collision avoidance helps with insurance as you are reducing risk and taking human error out of it well for the conditions it is operating.

Yes its grand. Running costs in general are good tax is €390, Insurance around €900 and its fairly good on fuel probably not as good as a 1.6TDI Golf to be fair :pac:

He would want to be sitting down with a strong drink when his renewal arrives.

Funny thing is he probably won't give a toss.

Some great special buys on in ALDI at the moment. Picked up a 1/2" torque wrench with an extension bar and 17, 19, 21mm sockets for only €17.99. It has a much sturdier and better quality feel than the two other wrenches I have which cost more strangely enough.

Yes last couple of tanks were about 34 MPG using Fuelly to properly calculate it. That was fairly mixed driving mainly computing to work which is 25km each way of mainly main roads. Also includes some heavy foot driving. On longer trips if you made an effort I would imagine 38 MPG would be achievable. Also if you drove it in Eco mode I reckon it would save a bit but I don’t use Eco mode.

Most I got out of Octavia vRS petrol was 39mpg

The 440 miles I did in one returned 27mpg....that included a Munich to Stuttgart return trip with plenty 100mph+ driving & quite a bit of cruising at 130/140 and a few dashes to 150mph....light enough on fuel to be fair I thought.

Insurance renewal is in, 800 v 886 last year. First time in years that the renewal has actually decreased. Pretty depressing all the same paying 800 @ 45 with a full license for 20 years and full NCB is seen as some sort of plus. The annual online quotation shopping around begins.

My insurance went up on the Skoda vs the Civic. Up to now I was told it was expensive because it was a Honda. You actually can’t win.

The 4 series' insurance was renewed today. €550 fully comp. Main driver is 28. God bless the teacher's insurance.

So much for the claim from them about old cars being unsafe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 423 ✭✭lemmno

I assume you also have a named driver on your policy as well as yourself? Just a way of getting it cheaper if you’ve not already done that

Has anyone had a "check vsc system" "check park brake system" on an Avensis? It's a 2011 with 173km. A quick google search shows it's the EGR valve.
    Any help please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,547 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Correct. can indicate a DPF fault too.

Also renewed my insurance this week, 1050 down from 1600. Happy enough!

Maybe someone here can tell me, just how sh,ite the Nissan leaf actually is ?

Often been driving down the M1 in a coach and always noticed after I overtake a leaf, they push up to my back bumper (looking for the slip stream no doubt)

Are they really that sh,it you can only do 70-80 kmh on a motorway and have to tie a rope to the vehicle in front !

    Fecking clown cars.

I find it tough enough to ensure my phone is charged and doesn’t run out of battery. Couldn’t deal with doing the same with a car. Like really until you can drive them comfortably at 100-120kmh for a decent range and then stop in any petrol station and charge them in 5 minutes they are are a serious inconvenience compared to a petrol/Diesel fueled car.
