Anyone here use a magnet phone holder ? Do they hold phones securely even going over bumps ?

Tend to be fine. I had one where it came with a stick on metal disc for rear of phone... It held it strong.

Gel one I use is good to.

Ram branded holders are very good.

325 is becoming more and more of a horror show. Rocker cover and now an injector replaced, sorts some things out but the rough (like really rough, shakes the whole car) cold starts are still there, and idling it makes a lot of varied noises and groans. Still drives pretty good but I'm really not sure how to fix this crap, I've put nearly 4000 euros into it over 18 months and it's not getting any better :(

Lot of money.... I look at cars now as throw away items....

Got a megane has all the mods and cruise etc but if anything big went it would be gone.

Looking at a 2015 520d M at the moment - any major faults to be pointed out in them. Any issues with maps updating etc? Something I haven't used in my CC is the Maps because the UI is poor & also they're out of date. I'd imagine it'd be easier to find BMW maps online or alternatively I wonder could you backfit Android Auto?

To be fair, you should. Yours appears to be the most minded e46 in the country.

Cheers, she's off the road at the moment getting her chassis undersealed, plus new brake lines, so that should mean I'll be blabbing on about NA six pot petrols for another while :pac: :D.

The bodywork needs a good bit of TLC, but that's all the love she's getting this year other than an oil and filter change in October (or if something unexpected goes wrong that requires sorting this year).

    Ah ye haven't done that??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,184 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Is that a new one or a modification to the existing?
I only saw it at the weekend :P

Got similar mpg from the 530d too in the last few days. Limerick to Dublin then across to Galway and back home on just over a half tank of diesel. Wasn't sparing the cane either.

What in the name of jaysis am I going to do with the old e46 325ci when I get something else? Anyone want it? The BBS wheels are probably the only thing of value on it. I'd be sad to see it in the crusher, but I reckon that's where it'll end up.

Feel free if you want, sorry been busy for a few days so haven't been logging on. Been getting my current project Nctd and much to my delight it passed first time.

Still have jobs to do on it before I'm ready for the next one though.

Ah I was only joking. If MPG bothered me I wouldn't of switched away from diesels.

I average 46 in my (albeit slightly fettled) mk7 GTD, I'll get 50+ on a longer run alright, but what I'm getting at is the gap between heavier 3L cars is not what it used to be. Seem to recall my mates old E46 330d used do around 30ish.

The curse of white car... It's funny how white car manages to stay clean and definitely not the hardest colour to keep clean, looking at you, Black!!! On the other hand the bugs... Your car can still be very clean, but the front look like mass graveyard.

I'd say fuel costs are about 10% more at the most tbh. Not really noticable in the grand scheme of other motoring costs.

Changed out the rear brake shoes on my jimny today....what a balls of a job compared to disc brakes.

I managed to get them done but not without issue. One of the brake cylinders popped out along with some brake fluid. So I now have to bleed the system. Brakes are spongy and not working well.

So do I just bleed that one brake line or do i need to bleed all four?

You need to replace the cylinders , seals will be damaged ,and will weep now forever, no point in getting seals when an assembled cylinder new is about € 12.

and now do the cylinders both sides to match up braking effort ,and if new shoes are contaminated with fluid , replace them again too, and wash drums inside with brake cleaner.

How will the seals be damaged? Cylinders are often taken out, cleaned and put back in with no bother.

You stated they popped out , so I presume the actual piston and seal came out of the body.
The seals will be damaged from expansion, so when you put them back they’re a different size to when they were originally assembled.
If this is the case, I don’t know any qualified mechanic that wouldn’t replace the whole wheel cylinder In this scenario.
Years ago, new seals could be bought but this’s is a lost cause unless new cylinders aren’t available, or maybe in a war zone.
Yes, in theory they should just be able to be re assembled , but in reality they WILL WEEP, motor factors sell tons of them for this very reason , they’re a serviceable, as in replacement item.

If they do weep you might as well have no friction material, and this is a very common nct failure.

Don’t take my word for it , ask any old time mechanic worth his salt.

Anyone got any recommendations for PDR in Dublin? Have tried sending DentPro an email but their email address seems to be down.

Robert did a load of cars for me years ago. Don’t know if he’s still doing it as website isn’t very current looking.
    Top notch at PDR.

Sent an email to him earlier in the week and heard nothing back, will give him a call tomorrow and see

Filler and paint aren’t the answer. That’s the issue for me anyway. They won’t be to the same standard as they were.

I would propose they swap them. If they’re going to be so perfect there shouldn’t be an issue putting them on a car they own.

If they are going to be repaired then they need to pay for a proper refurb done from the likes of Rim Solutions or Wheel Wizard imo. They have already tried the cheap DIY approach so I wouldn't be leaving them near them again.
