That phrase never say never which is used in wrestling a lot really is true.

This actually put a huge smile on my face. Delighted for Bryan but hope he is used on a wayyjay keeps him healthy and safe

Only thing I can say right now is "holy ****"

Hopefully this ends the silly conspiracy theories that WWE were deliberately keeping him out of action. It was always a case of whether or not Joseph Maroon felt he was fit and able and it seems the treatments Bryan has taken have aided him in that regard.

This time he will presumably perform much more sensibly as compared to the last time he returned when he continued doing extremely risky stuff and promptly got injured again.

Fantastic news. Just in time for WrestleMania.

I always thought the run he had a few years ago got the biggest crowd reaction since the attitude era.

    Great news

Hopefully keep him away from the ring until one of the big 4. A miz fued would be great to start.

    Fantastic news

For him to be cleared now he must really have the all clear

So many good matchups going forward

Styles, Nakamura, Rollins, Balor, Samoa Joe - and his probably Mania opponents KO and Zayn

    I'm stunned to be honest.

    Yes! Yes! (Someone had to..)

I’m a bit disappointed they didn’t do the reveal live on Smackdown tonight but I guess they want a ratings boost. Delighted for Bryan he clearly was desperate to get back in there.

I can't believe they did not save this for Smackdown

But I am so so thrilled.

    I'm still gobsmacked at this..

If Styles IS hurt, then Bryan vs Nakamura would be an incredible replacement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Might as well clear him as he would just go somewhere else to wrestle

    This. This. This.

When he came back last time he was an idiot, stupidly dangerous spots in throwaway matches on SD ffs.

He doesn't need to go close to as all out as he did in his previous run whatsoever as the crowd will cheer him no matter what.

Great news. But once again they ruined what would've been a brilliant surprise when he just starts attacking someone or is a surprise opponent.

Interesting that this comes after I was reading yesterday that he had turned down a Mania match because they just wanted him to do light work. Guess they came to some kind of deal and now they're announcing this.

Will we finally get the payoff/continuation to the feud with The Miz? Imagine if this wasn't announced and the Miz issued an open challenge.

This is to sell WM on the Network as Bryan replaces AJ.

Bet he gets teamed up with Strowman for the tag team match at mania

This sounds entirely false. Where did you read it?

The dynamics at play are that on their end they want to be able to avoid a potential lawsuit or an avalanche of bad PR were he to wrestle and something went wrong, and on his end, he wants to able to do what he loves. The idea that they're going to clear him in a minimal nature, perhaps similar to how they used Bret Hart, feels wildly unlikely. For one they wouldn't be protected from a suit, and for a second, he would be unhappy.

It’d be funny if he still fecked off at the end of his contract.

Can’t see Bryan being in anything other than a tag match with Shane against Sami/KO.

He still could. Just cause WWE have cleared him doesn’t mean they’ll use him right.

His booking will be key to if he hangs around or not.

How long before he puts Roman over.

Elated at the news but cautious.

Strange timing given we're so near to Mania and AJ looks to be in trouble. Sorry, just the cynic in me telling me that sudden circumstance is forcing their hand.

Bryan has been getting cleared every which way for a long time so really curious to know why now Maroon has suddenly caved.

Think this SD might be a big one.

They’ll mention it in opening Segment announce tag match at Mania and que yes chants.

Then smackdown will proceed as normal.

    Delighted and terrified.

It appeared on the cards for a while now with the Shane v KO and Sami feud. But while it looked possible I never expected it to actually happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,960 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

my god I didn't expect this

so he's deff having a match at mania I'd say and his entrance might just blow the roof off the arena

so what to do with Bryan after mania ??? let him wrestle out his contract and we get some dream matches like vs Styles, Vs Nakamura, Vs Owens etc

Let's forget that wwe 24 special happend when he 'retired'. Big congrats to him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,093 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Not too happy about it myself.

Fear he'll want to prove that he can still work the same style, and will get seriously injured.

Think this SD might be a big one.

I feel like opinions like this really miss the bigger picture.

Dr Maroon has been extraordinarily sensitive to the damage his reputation took based on his portrayal in the Will Smith movie "Concussion" in which they gave you the impression he was initially dismissive when Dr Bennet Omalu discovered CTE in Mike Webster and brought up the idea that there may be a lot of football players suffering brain damage. That is without doubt a factor in why he was so adamant about Bryan not wrestling.

The idea that Vince has called him up begging him to clear Bryan because he is in a bind for Wrestlemania is just so poorly thought out. Firstly, if AJ went down, there are a ton of people Vince would turn to before Bryan, who he patently never saw at the same level as his audience. Secondly, it has been known that over the past 4 weeks there have been changes to this story, which has been talked about by John Pollock over at Post Wrestling and by Meltzer in the Observer. This is not something that's just happened since AJ hurt his knee on Friday. Thirdly, like seriously just think this through for a second. Three well known and well respected neurosurgeons & concussion experts have attached their name to this, publicly allowing it be stated this man has a clean bill of health, and much bigger than all that, Maroon himself has attached his name to it as well. For him to go back on his vow not to clear Bryan he has to have seen significant medical evidence that indicates to him this person is capable of performing and not at significant risk in doing so. Put bluntly, it's disrespectful to suggest otherwise.

I know I'm going long here, but I find these kind's of takes as frustrating and baffling as the "they only took him out of the ring to help Roman" crowd from three years ago.

There are bigger things at stake here than pro wrestling storylines. This isn't the 80's. The company has shareholders to answer to, they can't expose themselves to a lawsuit to fill a spot on the undercard of Wrestlemania. Renowned doctors are not putting their reputations on the line because Vince is in a bind.

    I hope so.

Its all on Bryan now, the guy has enough pull and star power to determine how much he wrestles and how he chooses to.

I remember him coming back from an injury previously & taking ridiculous release half nelson suplexes from Luke Harper. I'd blame Bryan for it more than Harper. Hopefully long term he's been working diligently on that hybrid style he wanted to use & he is used sparingly in ring.

I think he'll stay regardless but not agree to anything longer than a 12 month contract. The money offered will doubtless be crazy and the guy has a family to think about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭Monokne

    Some more info from Meltzer:

Bryan asked Maroon flat out what he could do to be cleared. Maroon recommended three specialists who's opinions he would listen to - the three mentioned in the press release. Once they had cleared him, Maroon gave it the ok. This is not something that has happened overnight and it's been expected within the company for a few weeks.

AJ, in a vaguely related topic, is still expected for Mania after being examined in Dallas on Monday.

Instead of yes chant, the fans could start a 'Cleared!' chant while Bryan goes around the arena lifting his fingers up and down.

As I said, I was curious to know why Maroon gave in to what Daniel wanted and got my answer.

After two years it's a pretty straight forward question for Bryan to ask Maroon what he needed to do to get cleared that I'm surprised that it took Bryan this long to ask him.....but I'm guessing he has asked that question before and was flat out denied an answer.

Why now is what I'm asking really......and I don't think we've gotten a real answer to that yet. I don't think that's a ton foil question to ask. To me the answer is probably that under current circumstances whatever they may be, it's in their interest to clear him now as it is in his.
