    Folks,

my fusebox is in the utility, there is already an established route out the side wall (where we have taken power to a shomera). Along that wall there is a stone border.

What i want to do is have the cable go along the stone border, ill take them out and put them back when the install is done, thus basically hiding the wire until it comes to the charge point (which im happy to have low to prevent there being too much cable on show)

am i missing anything, can he run the cable that way or does it need to be covered in a certain way with trunking?

If I were to put a charge point away from the fusebox, would electricians generally be okay with running the cable through an attic (it's a bungalow) rather than some sort of trunking outside the house? Seems to be it would be an easier and shorter run, in addition to being invisible, through the attic than around the outside of the house.

Yes! Everyone loves working in a bungalow. Far easier and nicer looking running cable through an attic than using mini trunking.

Hi, i've been told by two electricians that my boiler or gas meter must be earth bonded, as must my hotpress. My house (20 yrs old) doesn't have earth bonding like this. They haven't been out to survey yet.

the gas meter is a few inches from the earth point, so thats easy to address, but the hotpress is in the middle of the house and the attic is converted, that is not easy to fix without trunking or lifting boards :( There is an immersion that is earthed ...

Anyone know if this is a hard requirement to get fixed, or can the electrician install with recommendations to fix (seai grant applied for) ?

Post to the electrical forum. You'll get a more definitive answer there, bearing in mind there are new regulations being rolled out this year.

AFAIK, when a new circuit is being added and a cert being provided they have to ensure the rest of the wiring is up to regulation and earthing is an important part of that, so if two have already independently given you the same answer it is probably where it is at.

Ultimately you wont get the grant unless you can get an electrician to give you a cert. The SEAI dont care about anything else other than that cert.

This is safety. More of an issue if kitchen sink needs to be earthed, and there is none nearby.

I think they need to earth gas at boiler, not meter, hot press immersion earth will probably do, attic is typically plumbed to hot press so running a wire following the pipes up and across is not that difficult. I doubt it is more than a couple of hours extra work. Typically these days they would also test main earth connection for the house too. I think its a simple safety update.

Guys, my mate just bought a 530e and wants a charger installed.

No solar, no power showers etc so just wants a basic plug and charge kind of job.

I recommended the EO Mini purely from a visual perspective.

Whos the go to fitters now consider Nigel Daly etc are out the door and too busy.

    Any electrician will do.

I know that and that’s the route I went but he wants a supply and fit service. All in one shop.

He's making it hard for himself so.

He should buy it himself online with a recommendation from you and then find his friendly local spark to install a "32A outdoor socket".

If he limits himself to "specialist EV charge point installers" he will be waiting and paying through the nose! :)

What area of the country is he based?
How long is he willing to wait?

I'm in the same situation. What puts me off when it comes to generic electricians are the stories where the inexperienced (with SEAI) installer forgets to put in the date into one of the fields on the form, or puts it into the wrong field, etc, etc, etc... And then it's a back-and-forth with SEAI for the foreseeable future :)

I'd wager these stories largely eminate from the EV Charger Charge Point Install specialists.
It's really not that hard to fill in the few resistance values, MPRN & simple details, on the documents required for the SEAI grant.

It really implies generic electricians are volts, sorry, dolts :D.

Actually my experience with the home charge point grant process was nothing but chaos so far (still before getting a letter of offer), so I fully believe these stories :)

The EV purchase grant went through fast and smooth, so I'm surprised about the chaotic nature of this other process.

What do you guys think about this?

Should I wait for this or just go ahead and get a Zappi?

    Dublin.
He’s getting the EO mini fitted next week for €949. So €349 after grant refund.

how bad an idea is it for me to 'fake' the bonding ? I can wire up bonding to a socket earth in a way the electrician won't notice unless they really route around and lift floor boards .... is it bad, or really bad ?

I paid €200 for mine. Then paid my mate 100 to certify. Then got 600 grant from SEAI ;)

    For the unit I guess?

I paid €450 for the unit(rolec wallbox with unit meter), and 100 to the sparks to install (a few weeks after he had just done a bit of work on the house so perhaps made a difference).

I already got a home charger in 2017 when I bought an Ioniq. Now I'm eligible for the home grant with the eNiro. But can I avail of it given I got one before?
