Four is a bit much don't you think?

Leinster have four and they lose two to Ireland camp. Four seems excessive for Ulster, at most they'll lose Moore. And even that doesn't look likely.

Not really Troyzer. I'd definitely want 3 THs and a 4th prop who can play TH. Two injured THs and you are one injury away from serious problems.

Yeah but three injured THs and suddenly four isn't enough?

Maybe Leinster should get a fifth? Gonna have to respectfully disagree with you there.

    Well. That's me ruined.

    I'll just show myself out....

4 is on the money, with rotation, injuries and different levels of experience. Just look at loosehead injuries.

    As for a loosehead.
O'Toole possibly? Mobile and can carry. Would seem a waste to mess him about. They obviously considered him a tighthead, scrummaging might be easier on the loose though for him. He is still very young.

In a specialised position like LH or TH you can't really run on the bare minimum. And Ulster don't have a TH in the academy either.

Leinster have 4, but also have academy cover too in Aungier.

So a big game coming up this week against the Ospreys.

Obviously Best and Stockdale will be out, but I'd be hopeful that our other Irish squad members should be released.

The question is whether any injured players will be back. Marshall can't be far from a return. What's the craic with Coetzee and Reidy?

    Possible team...??

    1 O'Sullivan
    2 Herring
    3 Moore
    4 O'Connor
    5 Treadwell
    6 Reidy
    7 Murphy
    8 Coetzee
    9 Cooney
    10 Burns
    11 Lyttle
    12 McCloskey
    13 Addison
    14 Balacoune
    15 Ludik

Not bad for mid 6Ns if it comes off.

Advantage of supplying only 3 Ireland starters is you get to field relatively strong teams during the six nations fixtures.

Thought Henderson is back this week too?.

I thought France was the earliest he'd be back?

Great news. Marshall will take some of the pressure off the centers. Hopefully Gilroy is back.
Ulster should beat Ospreys. Ospreys have a lot of players in the international set up and are weakened.

    Hendo starts. :)

    Lowry at 10. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,755 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Kernohan starts over Lyttle? Why? Kernohan has done fine , but Lyttle is a class above. Also not sure why McBurney isn't on the bench ahead of Andrew, to be honest I'd probably start McBurney ahead of Herring!

Anyway that is the negative gripes out of the way. Other than that good to see Hendy back, and good to see McCloskey and Cave linking up in midfield. And also Lowry at 10 is very exciting. It could be a watershed moment.

Disappointed Rea isn't ahead of Clive Ross. Has he completely stalled?

    Ulster team: (15-9): P Nelson; A Kernohan, D Cave, S McCloskey, L Ludik; M Lowry, J Cooney; (1-8): E O'Sullivan, R Herring, M Moore, A O'Connor (captain), I Henderson, C Ross, J Murphy, N Timoney;
    Replacements (16-23): J Andrew, A Warwick, T O'Toole, K Treadwell, S Reidy, D Shanahan, J Hume, R Lyttle.

Hoping Henderson hasn't been rushed back. Pic's show his hand heavily strapped.

Not a fan of Nelson at fullback, hopefully Lyttle can continue from the last match with the attacking form.

Nelson has never fulfilled his early promise. He isn't a player who fulfills the criteria for the level of player that any of our provinces really need. I'd ratyer see the multi-talented Lyttle there for example. I suspect he would make a really fine scrum half too.

Funny I had the exact same thought about Lyttle during the Benetton game a couple of weeks ago. There was talk on here a while back that Lyttle may be released because of his injury record. That to me would be a massive waste of talent.

    Ospreys
    15 Dan Evans
    14 Hanno Dirksen
    13 Cory Allen
    12 Tiaan Thomas-Wheeler
    11 Luke Morgan
    10 Sam Davies (Capt)
    9 Tom Habberfield
    1 Jordan Lay
    2 Scott Baldwin
    3 Tom Botha
    4 Lloyd Ashley
    5 Bradley Davies
    6 Olly Cracknell
    7 Sam Cross
    8 James King
    Replacements
16 Scott Otten 17 Rowan Jenkins 18 Ma’afu Fia 19 Will Griffiths 20 Rob McCusker 21 Matthew Aubrey 22 Luke Price 23 Keelan Giles

Ospreys have a decent selection. Ulster could struggle if they don’t have a big performance by their back row.
Who is the back up 10? Cooney or Nelson?

I must say I thought he got a bit of a raw deal from Ulster and a lot of daft and unfair criticism from fans. He had some very good attributes, he was a young guy from lower level rugby playing away from home and he didn't get any lee way at all.

Great stuff - both play in positions we need to strengthen.

Good to hear about Reid. Hopefully he is committing himself to rugby. He certainly has huge potential.

Good jackalling from Hendy to win a penalty.

Lowry plays nice and flat. Quite a contrast to a young Paddy Jackson.

Edit - Nelson and Ludik have started well.

Henderson possibly lucky there that he wasn't given a Yellow.
