    So the rumour mill continues.
    Interviews today.
    Mallinder
    Glenn Moore
    Shaun Edwards
    Andy Robinson.

Dare I say it... but I'd probably take the man with no HC experience in Edwards, followed by Mallinder.
I don't know enough about Moore to comment, did he have a successful reign in Super rugby? The woman's kiwi team won the world cup right enough, but on the verge of saying the wrong thing... I don't know quite how to quantify that against the men's game.

    no

I would go for an experienced head coach, we rarely appoint someone who has done it elsewhere. Its always an assistant or a head coach from the NZ U20s or a school team. I'd probably take Mallinder. His problem was that he stayed on far too long at Northampton and if rumours are to believed didn't get on with Hartley.

Mallinder be my choice I think..

Mallinder would be my choice, but like the idea of Edwards getting the gig and beatin lumps out of all the under performing players..

Is this an interview for DOR or head coach?

Shuan Edwards surely wouldn't want Ulster? 3 premiership titles, 2 European and welsh achievements.

Always thought Andy Robinson would of applied last time around.

I don't know why Ulster fans would turn their nose up at guys like Robinson or Mallinder. They're guys with proven records at club level in this part of the world and reputations for being no nonsense, driven disciplinarians who get more than the sum of parts from teams; those are precisely the things that Ulster need.

Robinson had a mixed time at Bristol but his club record for the most part is excellent including a stint in the Pro12 where he took Edinburgh from finishing a finishing position of 8th (from 11) to 4th and 2nd in his two seasons there. There's also the small matter of being in a select group of coaches that have won the European Cup.

That was literally 20 years ago. Agree on the rest though.

Edwards' career is stellar right from his schoolboy days when he captained both the England league and Union sides. A unique double. He does of course have Irish family and has played RL for Ireland...

Wiehahn Herbst to miss the remainder of the season.

Good opportunity for O'Toole to get more game time.

He’s also a RL guy turned Defense Coach with no HC experience - I wonder if Ulster have ever tried that before?

It was pulled for 18 hours due to a large number of complaints.

Absolutely pathetic. Trying to silence those with a different opinion. Seriously pathetic.

Jaysus, I hope Ulster hire Edwards. Ulster get a good coach and we weaken Wales all in one beautiful blow.

Underage rugby in Ulster is a complete shambles. It also doesn't help that virtually no underage representative international games are played here. A higher profile would not go amiss.

Lack of internationals played is hardly the cause. (Though I agree they should be moved around the provinces)

    Dunno Jaco.

I actually I think UR are trying hard. I watched an underage training session this week. Eg, picking up kids from small schools who didn't pass initial trials 3/4 years later. Giving lesser lights game time v Canada etc. Plenty of kids at the sessions. All shapes and sizes. Games for u17 last year v u18 USA, Munster, u18 clubs etc.

Willie Anderson heavily involved. Kids enjoying it.

I used to think it wasn't great and maybe it wasn't but I do think it's getting better.

More high profile games at age grade would be better but that isnt a reason for lack of reps playing.
A lot of competitions in underage rugby in the province is structured well bar schools only having the cup but at there is bowl, subsidiary shield for those knocked out early on.

Great to see Willie involved but he hasnt been coaching the greatest of teams the past few years...
Ulster are doing ok but how much is being done to widen the numbers playing. They like to run their own thing in terms of underage rugby. Some good. plenty bad.
There is youths rugby all irelands back again this season after a few years with none but Ulster are not competing as they unlike other provinces run off completely different age groups. Its under 16s like other provinces but 6 months difference in eligibility

So BOI who are one of the major sponsors of Ulster, have announced that they are reviewing their arrangement with Ulster Rugby in light of the recent trial. They have been in touch with Shane Logan. This follows BT stating that they had been in touch with Ulster recently also and is monitoring the outcome of the review.

This is surely one of the factors that is coming into play when the IRFU make their decision based on the review.

I won't believe them until they take out an ad in the paper

They are all monitoring the review. Their concern is obvious, they dont want to be associated with something that could damage their brand

The IRFU/Ulster review panel are in a very tricky situation. Losing significant revenue is a big blow

If they sack SO & PJ, they may well have a case for unfair dismissal given the Not Guilty verdict, the privacy of a WhatsApp group & you could argue the 'sentence' has already been served given the 2 year(ish) suspension

If they pay them off/buy them out of their contract, that will cost them and would need to be balance against the gains of the sponsors continued partnership
