At least the trial fallout has been partially resolved. I imagine the mood has lightened somewhat in the squad as evidenced by the game on Friday night.
The real test is the next match. It doesn't have to be a win, but a consistent level of performance would be great. That seems to have been Ulster's problem all season with the only level of consistency coming at home. So a good away win followed by a strong showing at home against Ospreys would be a sign of change in the air. Hopefully. :)

The atmosphere will be bubbling over as Wee Jackie lines up to convert Stu's match winning try ☺

Perhaps but 2nd rows enhancing their careers at Leinster has typically being the exception rather than the rule.

    Ah that's pretty harsh.

Mal O'Kelly was one of the greatest second rows ever in Ireland. Cullen was outstanding and probably undervalued, certainly by Ireland. Toner has developed from a tall but awkward player with potential, to an outstanding lineout operator and powerful workhorse. Malony is developing well. Ryan is improving enormously and despite a lot of injuries.

Beirne was highly regarded but couldn't stay fit. Thornbury had potential which he never quite realised mostly due to injury, and seems to be doing okay out west.

So it seems to me Leinster have a very good record in taking raw talent and producing high quality second rows, some who succeed at Leinster and some elsewhere.

In fairness that's true of pretty much every province. Munster haven't produced a top level lock in ten years and apart from Ryan and Henderson it's much the same for Ulster and Leinster, Connacht even less.

Wasn't meant as a dig, just an observation. We struggled to bring through 2nd rows for a while and made a few duff signings there as well. Don't think you could say with any certainty that Treadwell would be in a better situation than he is now.

Yes but if he were at Leinster he may never have gotten the opportunities to have gotten to where he is now, a 22 yr old lock with 3 test caps. I know Ryans achievements take the gloss off that but he's a generational talent who would've made it anywhere.

he'd have played at leinster and likely played a lot given the number of caps kearney/nagle have accumalted the past 2 seasons.

and id wager he'd have gotten capped based on those appearances.

anyway it doesnt matter.. hopefully the next coach can get the best out of him as he is a super athlete.

I hope McPhillips stays. Huge upside to him. Looks comfortable and is good at all aspects of the position. Lyttle also looks like a fine player. He'll be locked into a starting role soon. The young players coming up should get game time for the rest of this season. Maybe one or two to start the games and a couple on the bench. After watching the Edinburgh game. I thought Rea and Timoney were good and O'Toole was a beast in the loose. Dalton will probably get a contract for next year. Another good young player. We'll see how Hume goes in the u20 rwc. He too has a great chance of being a future star. Curtis is the best prospect in Ulster imo. Gloom and doom days will be history soon, hopefully. Awec will glaze his nipples with permaglaze and will will exist in a permanent state of arousal. Ah, good times coming.

Lowry is a better prospect than Curtis most would say.

Haven't seen Lowry!! Hear good things about him. Also hear good things about Allison. Can't wait to see him play. Ulster in the recent few years seem to cut people quickly. Lorcan Dow comes to mind. Maybe the guys are not good enough, but some guys take longer to blossom.
New coaching staff might get more from the academy players with new structures. Time will tell.
What will they do with Ah You. Seems like O'Toole and Kane can force him out. Kane looks like another good option. On the other hand Warwick is not up to par, imo. Loose head is a major problem and they will struggle up fron without addressing it. Anyhow. I think they will be a different beast soon enough.

I think Dow just wasn't up to scratch for professional rugby, he got a good chance to show in A games, and now he's playing for Richmond in the championship.

In fairness I can’t think of any young Ulster forwards who have left and gone on to better things.

Maybe Paddy McAllistet but I’d probably argue that one. Not really tearing things up.

Seen Glenn Moore's name come up a few times in regards to the coaching job.

Current Kiwi woman's coach, ex coach of highlanders and Blues.

Anyone heard anything on the grapevine?

Is there a current scrum coach in Ulster? Just wondering as a lot of the current batch of young props can't seem to get the basic of the scrum right. (AIL I am talking here really)

Ulster need to be aiming a lot higher than Glenn Moore

I haven't taken particular note of Ulster's scrum lately, but I did think that it improved a lot when he arrived on the scene - I think it was a shambles before that.

    Signed and shared.

Through 5k signatures in less than 48 hours. Imho that's a pretty strong statement given the negative perception social media has played against showing any alignment with the players.

I'm not going to comment on petition itself but I'm sure its (in part) a reaction to the initial reaction/outcry. Nobody likes it when one side appears to dominate all the talk.

What's interesting is the male/female ratio. It feels like it's almost 50/50 or certainly not far off it.

    About to hit 10,000 signatures.

A couple of people have told me that they viewed the original petition using Facebook to see what it said and their names were added automatically

As context though, the petition asking the IRFU to conduct a review of Jackson & Olding has over 68,100 signatures.

So 6.5 times more people have expressed the view that they would not be welcome to represent Ireland, at least not yet.

Or to put it another way, almost 87% of people who voted in either poll are not supportive of Jackson and Olding being welcomed back at this stage.

It seems to me quite clear that public opinion is against Jackson and Olding.
