Thank you Kermit I went and bought wellies and sledges for the kids yesterday and just spent 2 hours being a kid again and we're off to santa in the woods in the snow later. There's people paying a grand a piece to fly to Lapland for this.....happy out today.

With the sun setting about 4.30, will the sleet/rain tend to turn more to snow across Munster as temperatures should drop?

Just back from walking the dog

Beautiful winters day, nice and calm, blue sky, sunshine, crisp 1 deg C.

All that was missing was a bit of snow :D(there was a bit of hoar frost and leftover hailstones from last week to be fair)

    Sligo btw

Can confirm it was a whiteout last night in kiltullagh 13 km east of Athenry
Electricity went for a couple of hours this morning too

Right hand lane of M6 motorway eastbound will be treacherous tonight and the hard shoulder

The snowfall has finally stopped here in the last few minutes in south east Carlow. (Closer to 1pm as I am delayed posting this.) Total max accumulation of 4.7 inches since 5.30am this morning. Been quite a while since we have experienced such conditions.

Many thanks to M.T.Cranium for his time spent putting together these exceptionally detailed and accurate forecasts on boards, along with the other highly regarded posters. It is great to be informed, prepared and share data/build up the excitement prior to major events. MET Eireann did well with their warnings also I feel. Others might suggest a slightly delayed warning on their behalf but to be fair, this is Ireland where everything can change in a very short space of time with many influences affecting the overall outcome.

The morning commute could prove difficult for those affected by todays snowfall followed closely by sub zero temperatures this evening.

Stay safe and until the next event.. happy holidays.

It's beginning to snow lightly here at the moment which I suspected it would as soon as the front started to retreat back south. However I'm finding it very difficult to see his it will make enough to stick as the front has lost alot of its strength and is also dissipating.

Location east kerry, cork border about 225 all

Sleeting in Santry, Dublin at the moment although it's mostly rain with a few flakes here and there

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Gaoth Laidir

I got more in a 5-minute shower of wet snow the other day than I did in this morning's cold rain. Rotten.

In any case, today's looks like a sloppy kind of snow at low levels. Not the type we got in 2010. Nice to see initially but not much fun after a few hours, when it becomes a dirty, slushy mess. I prefer the streamer variety as it usually has a much lower water content and is less of a mess.

Was beautiful the few hours of snow we had this morning but a thaw set in fast with most gone now in Gardens roofs etc. Went back to rain about half hour ago but turning to snow again now. The freeze tonight will make tomorrow treacherous
