even if Kimi was to take an engine penalty , is it really an penalty given the difference between the front runners and the Midfield its really just a 3 to 4 lap delay. what ever Engine Kimi is running doesnt matter too much either but Ferrari need Kimi to actually win a race or 2 and pile some more pressure on Mercedes as it adds a second title challenger into the mix .

    I wouldn't think so,
I feel they need Kimi more as a second runner now to allow Seb to accumalate as many points as possible,
Once it is a done deal for Seb, I could see Kimi being allowed win a race or two,
If that is Ferrari's plan, Kimi plays ball and Vettel wins the WDC, I can see kimi in a Ferrari again next season.

LeClerc in last week's interviews was saying he doesn't have a Ferrari slot for next year, but I am thinking that he might have a option in his contract with Sauber that should Kimi walk, they can take him for the seat as suited.

Have a look from 21:30 on the below video on what he says:

What can you read into this???

Awe that's such a pity that never happened. That would have been great to see that. Could have been just what Ferrari and Alonso needed.

Thats a bit mad to think that he could have been in the Ferrari. Imagine what F1 would have looked like today!

He wouldn't have been as bad as Massa that year anyway. Alonso did miracles in that car.

It's one of those "what ifs" that we will never know conclusively.
I don't think he would have been quite on Alonso's level but he certainly would have been an improvement on Massa (who ironically was never the same after his accident)

Perhaps that improvement in teammate could have driven Alonso to the title.

Heads are already rolling with one gardening leave and Aldo Costa move to a advisory role.

Whats this all about over at Mercedes anybody hear anything.
Pressure on them now for sure.

I don't see why heads need to roll. Merc are still doing a good job. It just so happens that Ferrari are also (finally) doing a good job.

And right there is why heads are rolling.

I dont see any heads rolling.
Costa, who has been central to car design through Mercedes' dominant era since 2014, is to become an advisor so he can spend more time in his native Italy.

Ellis, 54, is to retire from his role and take a sabbatical next year.

Both are leaving of their own accord.

Wha? The 2 Merc guys are leaving, not fired. It's pretty clear.

These guys are leaving at the end of the season, if they were being fired they would be out the door today. Doesn't look like heads rolling to me either

Nobody leaves a team on the up bar someone with a significant family tragedy.

Gardening leave for Ellis. He will be in another team in a year or so after whatever no competition clause he has in his contract is over. That's my guess anyway. The other one is less clear.

    Read the official announcement https://www.mercedesamgf1.com/en/mercedes-amg-f1/amg-f1-news/amg-f1-article/news-team-announces-technical-transition-ahead-of-2019/

Ellis is not leaving for his sabbatical until mid 2019. He is supporting the transition to the guy being promoted to the role. Anyone who's ever worked for a large company will have seen this kind of thing happen repeatedly. It's called succession planning

And then he will look into other challenges (his own words). I'm not saying he was fired, I'm saying he will join another team.

It wasn’t worded as other challenges, he specifically says "take a well earned break to consider next steps while remaining part of the Mercedes family". He might decide that 30 years in motorsport was enough, and maybe he's built up a good enough relationship with Mercedes to move to another area of the business. Who knows, but frankly I will be amazed if he turns up at another F1 team.

Either way, no heads have "rolled".

I think his legend has grown with his absence from the sport. I think he was in a category of drivers who improved steadily and were tipped as future stars like hulk and grosjean.

But he did seem more likely to kick on and become very good, he was still unproven and I doubt he was joining Ferrari on equal terms with Alonso.

It's a shame C4 won't be showing anymore races live before the summer break.

not really a bad thing , penalties are a little useless to combat this for Toro Rosso m if the engine improves enough you will get through the back markers and be able to race the midfielders . worth the penalites
