I'll be shocked if dan goes to Renault. He won't win races there.

I think it's a brave move from Red Bull if it is true but also that it had to be done and was there only real option as the relationship with Renault had gone sour because of the way Red Bull treated Renault. I think Renault will be very happy to not have to supply Red Bull anymore.

As for who should drive. If Kimi did retire at the end of the year I think Daniel Ricciardo to Ferrari alongside Vettel would shake things up a bit at Ferrari but also make it more interesting for the fans and be better for the team as well. Pierre Gasly could then go to Red Bull has he would have experience driving a car with the Honda engine that would be very valuable to the team so they could get off to a good start. Not sure who would replace Pierre Gasly at Toro Rosso do.

I do however also like the idea of Daniel Ricciardo at Renault. Think he could could bring a lot to that team including motivation to do even better and get to the front of the grid.

If Ricciardo does leave RB I imagine it will be Sainz that replaces him.
He (Sainz) is still an RB driver, remember.

Renault are improving no doubt, but they are years away from winning races. It looks like the doors are closed at Merc & Ferrari and it's now about maximising his contract at Red Bull.

Doubt Ricciardo will hang around for Honda engines next year.
Of course he will. There's probably nowhere for him to go. I imagine Hamilton and vettel will do what they can to make sure he doesn't partner them. They both have the a number 2 teammate and it suits them.

It's a bit of a crappy bluff because if he moves he's most likely to move backwards down the grid. I imagine he'll just sign with RB sooner or later.

But, are we really thinking that Honda can keep Red Bull in the top tier? Can either Dan or Max win a race, even somewhere like Monaco or Hungary with a Honda power pack?

    This too shall pass.

Possible yes , Given the same engine as renault in the Redbull car look at the difference .

Honda were poor and at fault with Mclaren but given the demands of constant improvement over actual development from Mclaren and the constant public blaming game it was never going to work. Proof of that is look at Mclaren at the moment. Actually thought FP1 in canada they were going to be competitive but they were really far off the mark and spent a few races doing team mate tow to get into other rounds of qualifing ...that was the most embarrising thing when they were using honda and now they are doing with Renault .

Honda have come on a leap and more should follow , Gasly said after Canada , he over took a Haas and a Force India on a straight and was not stuck for power. His race report said his tires were gone by the time he got behind the Sauber of CL .
Is it a front runner yet ? Nope way off but it can be there for the start of next season.

And Redbull been a Honda "works" team that does help them.

Also, an Adrian Newey designed car with a so-so reliable unit in the back...anyone remember the MP4-18? No? Thats because it never even raced!

Honda have the handy position though of being so far behind that improvements should be thick and fast at this stage.

Had to double check the year - for a minute I though this post might have been from 2015....

Haha, this isn't me giving some sort of hope or praise to Honda. Far from it. At this stage they can only improve.

    After all he is Italian.
Too much to resist, an Italian in a Ferrari with a chance to win the Championship.

CapellI and Fisichella might disagree - the pressure from the Italian media is extreme

Remember Luca Badoer? He was test driver for tears and years. Couldn't get the car around the track without incident when the pressure was on.

In fairness to Luca Badoer he was well beyond his prime when he stood in for Massa.

LarinI and Mordidelli did a lot better subbing and Alex CaffI apparently tested in secret for a full time ride but nothing ever came of it

I only just copped what the outside is when I looked at the list, and it's even got pikes peaks twisting around in there as well. It's fantastic, nice one for posting

I didn't realise AVUS was so long.
Trying to figure out where the start finish line is on the Mountain Course.

RedBull Honda moving towards a honda buyout is interesting.
Unfortunately Honda have a habit of pulling the plug when their investment is just about to pay off.

Honda was heavily burned with their own team recently, so I cannot see them looking again for an individual team, while the memory is fresh. Their best results in recent history they achieved as engine supplier only.

yes. I was just making the point that after much expense, they pulled out prior to 09 season when they had the winning of the championship and previous to that they had the failed bit to enter in 99 or so where they knew they had a respectable engine already competing and they built and tested a chassis which was said to be competitive in testing. Harvey Postlethwaite who was running the show died and they then shelved the whole thing again no doubt at great expense and utterly wasted.

I know, so I wouldn't expect Honda to take RedBull or TR over anytime soon. If someone is doing that, then Porsche who might want to have a full working aerodynamic team attached. Or RedBull gets tired and Horner takes over.

Overall though, Ricciardo hasn't got much in the way of choices. Merc are happy with Bottas, Ferrari have a solid hierarchy now with clear No.1 and No.2 drivers, after RB its Renault, McLaren and FI. If Alonso heads off he might land in that seat.

It'll be an interesting test of Vettels power at Ferrari because I'm sure he'd be keen to block the teammate who beat him in his last year at Red Bull becoming his teammate again. Might even be the end of Vettel at Ferrari if the deal goes through.

Kimi, sadly, is living on borrowed time. I don't think Seb would baulk at the idea of having Ricciardo as a team mate. He still has the ability and self belief to outperform everybody on the grid. I like Grosjean and think he would make the perfect number two at Ferrari. Erratic at times but has great ability and is always fast when it counts.

You don't think seb would baulk at having ricciardo as team mate?
He ran away from his last team where he was a 4 time champ when ricciardo jumped in and embarrassed him.
