Last year was probably a bit too late, but do you not think its better to wait until around Oscar time? All the award worthy films come out in January.

I always thought it was for a calendar year. The Oscars should be following our timetable not the other way around.

Kind of one dimensional acting performance though no? Not saying it was bad or anything but wouldn't stand out to me as being award worthy.

Thought it was nuanced and restrained enough. By that criteria, Tom Hanks would never get a nomination. :):)

the reviews for The Greatest Showman haven't been great, saying it's mostly fluff but they are saying it's dead on for Best Song, I think it go either way with Jackman. Gyllenhaal, the film hasn't really been in the shake up for awards but it's Oscar bait type of role, so it wouldn't surprise me if he got the nod. I still think him not getting a Oscar Nod for Nightcrawler was a damn shame, still his best performance to date

I think the Academy loves Jackman which will help his chances :p

True, and many of the critics do say he's the best thing in it. Jackman has starred in his fair share of not so good films but he always end up been the best thing in it.

also you have to remember, The TV Producers of The Oscars will want the big stars there and I do think at times that they are swayed here and there to get a massive name nominated so he or she will turn up. Golden Globes are as guilty of that then anyone :pac:

Brooklyn Prince, the kid in the Florida Project, should get best actress or supporting actress, and become the youngest winner of an oscar! Amazing performance by her.

PGA nominations are out: The Big Sick, Call Me by Your Name, Dunkirk, Get Out, I, Tonya, Lady Bird, Molly’s Game, The Post, The Shape of Water, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Wonder Woman.

I liked Wonder Woman, but TLJ or BR2049 are far more deserving of the obligatory blockbuster slot.

I think supporting actress is between TV greats, Allison Janney and Laurie Metcalf

Amazing performance ? I just watched lady bird and thought she was good but no way Oscar material. Overhyped

SAG awards will more likely tell us where the acting awards are going too unless one of the Actors/Actresses do something silly to screw it up.

After last night, looks dead on that Frances McDormand for Best Actress and Sam Rockwell for Best Supporting Actor for Three Billboards is a lock in, both deserving imo.

Best Actor is also looking more like it's Gary Oldman's as is Supporting actress for I Tonya's Allison Janney .

So the only ones really I cant call right now would be Best Picture and Best Director. I think it's between Three Billboards and Shape of Water. I think Lady Bird has gone off the boil, I liked the film but nowhere is it a Oscar winner imo.

As I said on the other thread, I think Rockwell should be nominated for Leading rather than Supporting; his part was as central and important as any in '3 Billboards..'. That said, my odds-on bet on Oldman a couple of months back is looking even better value now. :)

Glad to see Woody Harrelson and Margot Robbie get nominated. Thought they were both great in their roles but they seemed unheralded.

Sometimes I think Meryl will automatically be nominated, whatever she's in.

The lady who was doing the announcing with Andy Serkis was very unprofessional, I thought. Seems like she did no prep work at all.

    Meryl Streep again ?

As great as an actor he is, part of me thinks Christopher Plummer nomination is just as much of a dig at Kevin Spacey from the academy.

Get Out was a big surprise for any nomination let alone Best Picture. Good film but Oscar worthy didnt enter my mind at all when I went to see it !

On that note, I'm surprised at Daniel Kaluuya getting nominated. Maybe it's just because 'Get Out' was overall a disappointment to me.

I think Streep could pick her nose in a one scene cameo and still get nominated :P

Doubtful. I'm pretty sure he apologised to Affleck for that anyway. Chalamet threw Woody Allen under a bus and said he'd do it again and it didn't hurt him (yet).

To reiterate, bit disappointed for Jeremy Renner (Wind River), and the film in general. Very skillful. Denzel Washington, who tends to auto-pilot through every movie, seems to be the male Streep.
