    Hi,

I did an Interview this month for the Senior Digital Engagement Specialist in CS HEO role. Got placed 12th on OOM. This comp closed at beginning of January.

I was told they may be in touch in the future!

I have only worked in the Private sector, so not sure if there is a chance of getting a position, I'm also only able to take something in Athlone/Galway direction if offered.

Any idea if 12th is good enough.

    Thanks for any advice...

I'd say the Galway/Athlone thing is likely to be a deal-breaker. I can't think of any significant ICT teams in those areas. Dept Education have some ICT folks in Tullamore I think, and Agriculture have significant resources in Portlaoise.

    Hi all,

Have a question relating to eo ict software development stream.

Do new entrants get trained into a specific area when they start?

Also are they working from home or in offices in general?

    Thanks.

Athlone has IT education now. You will get called. It just can be a bit slow.

    Hi all,

Once finished with PAS & assigned to a role/department what usually happens - Is there normally a long delay between being assigned and getting a start date & HR contacting you?

    Thanks

How long on average are people from any of the ICT panels been waiting for Garda Vetting? I am waiting nearly two weeks so far.

Mine took two weeks, give or take one or two days more. Would say you'll have it back soon enough.

Why is the pay for these roles so bad?

    Hi All,

Is a pre-employment online Health Questionnaire normally required for ICT roles in the Civil Service?

Hi guys, has anyone waiting on their security clearance/garda vetting? I've got placed in AGS and I need to do extra security clearance. I lived abroad so I expected it to be long. Its already 10 weeks passed and no news from them... Has anyone had to wait (extra) long for their security clearane? Any info would be helpful...

Any idea when would be the next HEO ICT competition? How long would the current panel be active?

HEO ICT Specialist advice: departments are crying out for technical people. My team and department rely on contractors to deliver technical projects which can mean you're expected to perform the role of vendor manager/project support. If you want a technical role, such as network/software engineer, you should have that clearly agreed before you start, managers change and they're generally interested in delivery over your role (learnt this the hard way). Unfortunately, when a civil servant hears the term 'HEO' they think you are a people manager, even though you came in under a technical specification. Otherwise, choose wisely... some departments are better than others so do your homework. If you know anyone in your network that does/has worked there(even if they're a friend of a friend), reach out as people are generally happy to share their experience (good or bad).

Create an alert on public jobs for ICT jobs and you'll be notified as soon as they become available. Also, follow publicjobs.ie on their social media where they'll share competitions.

    Good luck!

Got an email this morning to say I'm on the panel for this (in the top 20) is it likely I'll get placed?

    Thanks in advance

Has anyone been successful in actually starting in one of these positions. I started the process in March 2023, placed on OOM and was considered for a position pending vetting. I submitted all info required in time, then more months of nothing. I was then contacted again to do the same. It's a crazy system if I'm honest. I understand the requirement to have numbers on a panel but I've never encountered an 11 month wait with still no official offer or otherwise!

Can't talk about these specific positions or the CS. But public recruitment in my experience often takes many many months.
