Yeah going for the EO myself just finishing the application form now, really not a fan of the competencies bit but needs must and all the rest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭SmokeyTheBull

Man there was actually a lot in that EO application, got mine in about an hour before the deadline. Still haven't got like an acknowledgement email yet or anything. Wonder how different not going through PAS will be

Has anyone heard any thing other than the acknowledgement E-mail

    • All sections of the form must be fully completed.

How come these roles were not advertised on public jobs?

I assumed it was because it's being handled by department of agriculture

    Hi Folks,

Just seen your thread for EO-ICT Specialist. Got interview dates for EO-ICT Specialist infrastructure. Its anticipated that interviews will take place 23/01/17 Kildare Street. I suppose any one who meets essential requirements on application form will go forward to next stage. I haven't worked in civil service before so don't have any experience with competency based interviews. Just wondering have any of you been through the competency route and how it compares to standard interviews.

    Thanks.

I just got an email stating I am "deemed to be eligible to participate in this stream of the competition". Any idea how long it normally takes to progress from here? I have never applied for a State Role before so I have no idea how long things normally take.....

I got email to say the same. Funny thing was I was on the other panel also and I got offered position but it was not for the location I wanted. Holding out for my location no 1 on panel. But on it 1 year now. If you want Dublin you would get it within a couple of months. Mate 7-8 months.

Wonder if a position will come up department of agriculture newest competition before a position for the public job ones 1 year ago. As they are effectively the same role. Or is it a case of creating more panels

The whole thing takes months, if not years.

Got offered interview for middle of next week (ICT) Specialists (EO level) open comp. advertised Oct 2017.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Fionnger

If going through PAS, psychometric tests were usually performed before interview stage. I guess its different because Dept. of Agriculture is running competition.

Only usually do psychometric test if there is a lot of candidates going for it as way to cull the numbers down. It could just be a interview then placed on a pannel
    Best of luck anyway

Hi Emermc congrats, I also got confirmation I got placed 6th in order of merit. Is this a good placing as I've never applied for civil service post before?

Yeah man it's great, it means that there's only 5 people ahead of you. So for the first position available, if those 5 turn it down you will be offered it. As long as there's more than 5 initial positions available you'll be offered a position, and soon probably. They'll call to tell you what and where and ask if you accept.

Congrats that is great. Is that for development or infrastructure? I'm in the development stream & I'm 21. Hopefully there will be more than 21 jobs over the next 2 years. There are 3 public bodies looking too so hopefully.

Its for infrastructure and I will probably opt for a regional post since I live down the country. I'd say the first posts will be offered in Dublin though.

What qualifications/experience did you have to get on the various panels? I applied for both and was place on one (dev) 30s. I've a higher dip in IT but no experience in tech

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭emermc

I've a B.Sc. in IT & a few years programming experience but I've not been working in I.T. for Awhile.

That is probably a decent placement to be honest - They say there are loads of jobs & lots of people retiring over the next few years and the panel will last for 2 years. Also, not everyone will except the offer.
