surely nonsense rumours from the Echo? Hard to see Davy coming in and not be the main man

Once the paycheck is substantial i doubt he would care.

Eoin Cadogan after retiring. Great servant who always gave his all. One of the few with the bit of niggle that we so badly lack in both codes

  • Registered Users Posts: 594 ✭✭✭sportsfan90

Agreed I always have time for him. I always maintained that if he returned to the hurlers a year earlier there’s no way he’d have allowed Clare to run straight through our defence like they did in the 2013 replay.

RIP Seanie. One of the greats from a time when you didn't have to be a big, super conditioned athlete, just a pure hurler with a magic touch.

Legend of a player from my young days.

    RIP.

Seanie O'Leary gave hope to many a butty lad carrying a few stone!

The difference was, that he was also a genius and could get away with not being the most athlethic,he was incredibly hardy, his touch was incredible and one of the smartest men to read a game, all he needed was to be able to run ten yards, get a touch and bang, a supreme poacher.

I was always told as a kid, that he had only one kidney, which made people admire him even more.

His like are extinct on the intercounty scene a long time now.

    RIp Seanie

RIP Seanie. The first Cork game after i was born, was that 1984 munster final. What a man he was. I'm glad he retired on a high, after that 1984 all Ireland win. He was a selector of course for our 1999 and 2004 all Ireland wins as well. Yesterday was a sad day for Cork, and all hurling people.

Cork got no hurling all stars.

12 from Limerick along with Eoin Murphy, Conor Prunty & Tony Kelly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,044 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

After that display in the all Ireland I'm not surprised.

Although cork always got bit screwed in All stars in past

  • Registered Users Posts: 478 ✭✭costacorta

It’s hard to argue with the team picked and you could say the 3 Limerick men left out could feel hard done by as well.

We were good enough to get to the final. So it is harsh that we didn't get an all star or two. Of course we won the football all Ireland in 2010, and get a screwing over in the all stars as well! But the selection does fairly represent the scale of Limerick dominance. They have taken over from Kilkenny as the dominant team in hurling. I feel that ourselves Kilkenny Tipp Waterford Clare Galway and Wexford are around a similar level.

We all are a fair bit behind Limerick. So long as they don't take their eye off the ball, then they should do the three in a row next year. We finally have some underage success to build on in Cork, but i still feel we are another two to three years away from winning a senior all Ireland. The scale of that all Ireland final defeat, would suggest that we are a long way off Limericks level sadly.

He mightn't have had the skill of someone like Hoggie, but Billy was a great workhorse who gave it his all for the jersey. A great Youghal man and a great Cork man. He retires with three munster medals, but the all Ireland medal sadly remained elusive. 2018 really was the one that got away! As a great a team as Limerick are, we should have beaten them in that infamous semi final!

Midleton v Kilmallock on TG4 today from 1

  • Registered Users Posts: 932 ✭✭✭conor05

Same old failings with Cork senior clubs in the Munster championship.

The non-contact hurling and loads of space that is the Cork SHC is no use when playing teams like Kilmallock that come through a tough hard-hitting and intense SHC in Limerick.

Midleton have no time on the ball here and horsed out of it in any 50/50.

Glen Rovers and Blackrock were the same as few years ago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 504 ✭✭✭Davys Fits

What ever happened to marking up your man. The amount of loose Kilmallock players in the middle of the filed is mind boggling.

7th Munster title for Mourneabbey today. All Ireland semifinal on the 2nd weekend in January

  • Registered Users Posts: 913 ✭✭✭thefa

Feel like Cork has fallen into mediocrity in the last 5 years when it comes to S&C in both codes at inter county and it filters down the grades to club level.

Like there was a time when the hurlers in the early 2000s and footballers in late 2000s/early 2010s were arguably the fittest team in the country. Complacency and no longer term thinking let the game pass us by.

Boherbue destroyed by Gneeveguilla today in the Munster JFC semi final. 3-14 to 0-08. Says enough about Cork football in all grades. Very few Cork teams have beaten Kerry teams in this grade and all grades going up. Why is this the case? Coaching? Effort? Players just not good enough in Cork? Better clubs and players in Kerry?

One would need to wonder? Cork have a big population but no talent good enough to challenge Kerry in any grade. You can be guaranteed that 95% of the team Kerry clubs win Munster and All Ireland.
