Heard this earlier today. Two players were close contacts and played a number of games with different teams apparently.

Worrying enough stuff. If that starts happening the week of championship games etc there will be chaos with the fixtures

Colin Corkery interviewed by Tomas O Se

Loved Colin's telling of the tram story and travel expenses.

A wonderful footballer, not so fond of the training.:)

I don’t get why they’re releasing a county board statement? It’s not that big of a deal

Did they release a statement when the three other Cork clubs got the all clear today?

Course it is seeing as that club ate playing championship in a couple weeks time. If more on their panel test positive what happens next?

I don't see why they need to release a massive statement about one fella from a club testing positive. I can imagine many GAA players in Cork have tested positive. There was no big statement from the county board when the 3 Carbery teams were shut down. A club statement is more than enough.

Would it not be better if this was handled by each county PRO, a standardised response.

County boards are only making statements on confirmed cases. So this is the first one that Cork have since playing game’s recommenced. Clubs only make the initial statement on possible cases

There was confirmed cases in West Cork which is why the clubs shut down. No county board statement. It's completely unnecessary.

There was no confirmed cases within GAA clubs in West Cork.

There was cases diagnosed in GAA players after the house party. The clubs were then shut down as per GAA guidelines and teammates were tested. They came back negative and the clubs reopened. Of course there was confirmed cases, why would the clubs be shut down if there wasn't?

No your information is all wrong. That’s not how things work whatsoever. There was no cases diagnosed in GAA players.

The simple way of explaining is this.
-there was a house party in West Cork.
    - it was attended by a large number of people including 3 GAA players from the 3 clubs in question
    - another person at the party was diagnosed with the virus. This person is not a GAA player
    - but obviously the GAA lads were in close contact with the individual over a period of time at the party.
    - as a result they needed to be tested plus people they were in contact with needed to isolate and watch for symptoms, this would have included their teammates
    - results negative so free to continue

So just to clarify at no stage did any player actually have the virus.

You asked why the clubs closed? That’s what a club must do if there is a “possible” case. A club can’t risk continuing and hoping things come back negative

The situation in North Cork is different as the player is CONFIRMED with the virus. A whole different ball game. And that why the County Board needed to make a statement on it. By making a proper statement it may stop gossip and stories going around. Details can get mixed up otherwise, like you had heard there was players in west cork diagnosed with the virus and that’s incorrect.

It’s been fairly well talked about that a player tested positive after he went training and played matches. That’s why there was 3 clubs shut down but if you heard different then agree to disagree.

It was clearly stated at the time that players had been in contact with someone who tested positive, not that players had tested positive. The Glanworth player is the first positive.

Never ever said anywhere that a player tested positive after training or played matches. I have heard different as I read the official statements on it. I’m not going on rumours
Have you a link to where it was said a GAA player in West Cork tested positive? I’d be interested in reading it, thanks.

Denis Walsh's article in yesterday's Sunday Times gives an excellent summation of the saga.

    Unhappy Returns

Somewhat predictably GAA's resumption risks being curtailed by careless players.

Unfortunately I can't find a link for it but it's well worth a read.

The original player tested from a west Cork club did test positive for Covid 19.

Although he is well again he has not returned to team activities yet.

If a positive person played a match while infectious then the other players can’t be fully assumed negative until a test that is done 14days after exposure. If a match is played on a Sunday players confirms on the Tuesday then the other players can’t be tested until 14days after exposure or until they exhibit symptoms. If the other players are tested 4 days after the match then the virus hasn’t had time to Replicate to detectable and it’s potentially a false negative.

Sad news from Aghada tonight, Kieran O'Connor has passed away. Awful for such a young man with a young family. RIP Kieran
