Cork 1-6 Tyrone 1-10 HT. Cork with a good start but Tyrone have taken over, we must have gone the last 15min without a score until getting one in injury time.

Cork forwards a bit sloppy at times. Should be further ahead. Would love to see the free count but Monaghan getting a lot of them.

Great day for Cork football. Not been able say that in a while.

Fantastic stuff. Delighted my pessimistic view on the game here is proven to be a bit out.

    Well done to all involved.

    Meyler stepping down

"The Cork GAA Executive has today confirmed that, following the completion of his two-year term, outgoing manager John Meyler is not seeking a further term as Cork Senior Hurling manager.

All in Cork GAA wish to thank John sincerely for his decades of service to GAA at all levels in the County.

In more recent times, this has included a two-year term with the Cork U15/U16 hurlers in 2015 & 2016 with the group that went on to win an All Ireland U17 title in 2017. John had by then been appointed Cork U21 manager, while also serving as a selector in Kieran Kingston's management team which secured Munster honours in the same year. This was followed by a two-year term as Cork Senior manager which included the retention of the Munster title in 2018.

County Chairperson Tracey Kennedy said "John has been an outstanding servant to Cork GAA in a variety of roles over many years, and I would like to thank him both personally and on behalf of Cork for all that he has done and, I am sure, will continue to do. We wish John, his selectors and backroom team all the best in their future endeavours and thank all involved for an immeasurable voluntary contribution over their two-year term."

A process will now be put in place for the appointment of a new manager."

The next appointment must be someone who is looking after the interest of Cork hurling and who knows Cork hurling and wants Cork to win. Not a county board yes man appointment.

Donal Og is the obvious candidate.

Personally i wouldn't have him anywhere near that position. I would like to see Grady there. Knows whats required to win and is a shrewd operator. But that isnt going to happen.

Has O'Grady been involved in any teams in the past few years? It's 15 years since he stepped down as Cork manager, since then he had one year with Limerick and another short stint with them that ended before championship even began.

Obviously with his media work he still has a close eye on players and the game, but the game has changed hugely in the past 15 years. I know Sheedy went back after 8 years out of intercounty but he had 5-6 players in the spine of the team from when he left.

Or maybe O'Grady has been involved with club and college teams that I'm not aware of?

Ben O'Connor could be a shout, has Charleville playing a nice type of running hurling, similar to the mid2000s Cork team, would suit our forwards giving the lack of physicality they have

Bit harsh on John Meyler. He had Cork in terrific shape the past two seasons. They beat Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds this year which was a very impressive feat. That would suggest to me he is well popular and had no problem getting a buy in. Kieran Kingston obviously rates him too as he was a selector under him and Meyler stayed on to keep some form of continuity after Kingston and O'Sullivan departed.

Is this a piss take ? We were a shambles , one game aside, this yr. Clueless o the line. Daft selections, TO'M centreback ect.

Won a county U14 with the Barrs last yr. Id say he has zero interest at this stage of his life.

We lost 2 games soundly to the 2 teams in the final. We are good bit behind the main boys

I’m confused with the Donal og idea. What has he achieved in management. Just because he is a good passionate speaker does not make you a good coach.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,045 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Dont want Donal OG anywhere near that job. A disaster waiting to happen
