It’s almost 5km east of the town centre, for a bypass that’s quite a distance when there were options to bring it in closer to the existing bypass.

What would’ve made sense for Monaghan is to remove the N12 designation from the existing road and bring it down to R road status, and extended the N54 east along the old original Armagh road, which runs south of the existing N12. This is actually the quicker and more direct route to Armagh, bypassing Middletown and joining the A3 at Long Nancy’s. This route should be upgraded to S2 and leave the current N12 as a route for holidaymakers etc going to Castle Leslie.

Just wondering what is the plan for Clontibret to Castleblaney section?

It will be long time before anything more is done there.

There’s a priority safety project between Ardee and Castleblayney in the NDP that’ll likely get a new lease of life now that the road scheme slaughter merchant has left office. TII seem to be indicating that work on these schemes that are the last remaining unprocessed NDP schemes will head to ABP between 2028 and 2030.

Castleblayney-Clontibret is fairly well down TII’s list for intervention

I would agree, I am from the opposite end of the country but have driven on the N2/M2 a few times recently mostly travelling to Emerald Park.

While we have no control over the A5 decision, we should provide a high quality road from the M50 to North of Monaghan.

The Southern half of the Island has a much higher standard of road.

Indeed. There is absolutely no reason why Dublin cannot fully progress the N2 Clontibret-Border, N2 Ardee-Castleblayney, N14 Letterkenny-Lifford and N14/N15-A5 Link at Lifford.

Absolutely. Let's make it a demonstration of the diverging directions of Ireland and the UK.
