So Eglobal, after they sold me my broken phone, have shut down their ebay store it seems (0 items). I sent them a request for return/refund on Saturday and no response.
In the mean time I ordered a new one off amazon, paid extra to get delivery today as I will be away from tomorrow , and now they tell me it will arrive tomorrow... on to Customer Service, who are still very confident I will get it today. According to tracking the phone is still in Scotland.... Let's see... but what should have been the nice experience of a new phone is turning into a bit of a disappointment. The phone'd better be worth it..
    PayPal?

    2 questions about this phone...
    Does it have auto brightness?
Can you double tap the screen to unlock or do you always need to press one of the buttons on the phone to make it active?

Yea it does auto-adjust to light. Also has a night mode that gives a yellow tint to the screen but too yellow imo so dont use it.

Unlock - fingerprint scanner on the back, you can combine this with swipe/pattern/pin/password.

I picked up the 4gb Ram/64Gb Hard drive version from eglobal for €165. Also got a Xiaomi 10000maH powerbank for €27 with it. Looks like it will fully charge the phone 4times from dead. Took about 10days to be delivered.

Had the phone a week now the only complaint I really have it the phonebook (just phonebook not contacts) will duplicate your contacts. One for normal phone/text and a second if you have whatsapp installed. Havnt quite worked around yet

From what I gather, its not possible but one solution would be

"You can always turn on display with "wave over proximity sensor" gesture (several apps available). I find it more convenient than double tap, especially when I have my phone on a desk stand." (From XDA

    It has adaptive brightness

No to the double tap, as far as I can see. It has a fingerprint scanner that unlocks.
You can always use a "wave over" app to unlock.

I rasied this question before in here but still cannot get it working. Anyone that has this phone are you having issues with Bluetooth (audio)? When pairing to a radio / car stereo the music quality is terrible as is the handsfree. I tried the developer options and change the version from 1.4 to 1.5 and 1.6, neither worked. I know it's not my phone either as 2 guys here in work with the same phone is having the issues as well.
Only fault in an otherwise excellent phone, but a big one at that.
    Any help would be great.

My phone has arrivied in parcel motel. Can't wait. I have read that some make software changes straight away. For example I'll download the Google camera app. What's the story with android version and rom? Are they the same thing? Any other tips or tricks for setup

Lesson learned, will buy my next one from Amazon I think for €50 extra. I also found one more video on youtube of this phone having this problem, so must not be a major issue... it is just a major issue for me..

I ordered from Amazon UK (64 GB version, 193 sterling, approx €220), and it came with a european two-pin power plug. I contacted Amazon, they wanted me to send the whole thing back and refund me, said they are taking down the listing and investigating how this happened etc. All I wanted was them to send me a UK/IRL three pin plug that I can plug the USB-C cable into. I am not sending it back, as I can't find any other place that is as easy to deal with as Amazon for the next two years (buying this phone to replace a XA1 which is going back to Amazon as warranty return - it developed a yellow stain type discolouration).

Great phone by the way, decent screen and much prefer the Android One to various Xiaomi/Sony/Huawei versions of Android.

Playing around with the phone this morning. Loving it. Completed the software updates. Latest update was in March so I assume im on OREO.

I was a bit surprised earphones didnt come with the phone. Other than that I have no complaints.

I I dont think its FAST charging though. Well it doesnt say it is anyway?

It doesnt have fast charging, but I find it fast enough. About 80 mins for full charge

Yeah I find it about a minute per percent, which I'm happy enough with.

Try not to leave it charging over night.

Have had my Mi A1 since before christmas and am loving it but for one thing.

When i am on a call somehow it puts calls on hold or starts dialing another number. The other person can hear it beeping out a number or gets put on hold.

I have checked and the screen goes black when put to my ear so i have no idea why it is doing it.

Anyone have the same issue or know how to stop it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭overshoot

I've noticed this a bit on longer calls, im assuming the sensor is in a bad place. I've used the screen lock button on the side to completely lock it out.

Finally got the phone from Amazon, they screwed up their priority delivery, literally got it 1 hour before I went to the airport. I will not go into the dealings with Amazon, but it was painful at best. Still no response from eglobal on the refund for the faulty phone, so that will be a paypal dispute indeed.

I love the phone though, hopefully this one will not develop any faults. Updated to Oreo, downloaded my apps, but haven't moved sim card just yet. Mine came with a proper UK charger, but I wouldn't send it back if it came with a Euro plug. I am moving from P9 lite that I also liked but the 16GB storage just drove me crazy.

Ok finally got the camera installed after 2 hours.
The process is simple, but a ADB unknown driver drove me nuts.

Tried close to 10 different methods to get it working.

    http://adbdriver.com/upload/AdbDriverInstaller.exe

Found a driver installer above, it will say driver is not signed, but installed it and it worked perfect.

Huge difference in the camera in low light, well worth the upgrade, your old camera is still there if you want to use the old features like zoom.

Can't get this to work unfortunately. Can see the phone in ADB, but unfortunately when I click the 'Enable HAL3, EIS and install' button, nothing happens on the phone end.

EDIT: Scratch that - got it to work using the manual steps on XDA.
