I joined this afternoon- I joined earlier in the year, but found out I was pregnant a few days later, so never went back. I probably should have continued while pregnant, but I couldn't face into it!
I'm a few pounds lighter now than when I joined then, but still have a fair bit to go. The class was awful long though. This announcing everyone's loss, and having a big clap is a bit wearing. I spent half of it looking at my watch worrying that I was going to be late to collect my kids.

Every best with to the new Slimming World thread members!!
We can all support each other in good times and challenges!

Got to my goal in early July, (18 pounds) had a good BMI starting off so it took a while, and listening to people saying to me what are you doing here, but we all know ourselves.

Delighted to fit in to size 12 again and to be able to wear my shorts during the summer and outfits I wouldn't have dared to wear before including a jumpsuit I bought in a sale, getting lots of compliments and feeling more energetic and confident
Problem is I haven't been back to SW and have been a bit naughty every week I was saying next week!

How does it work if you are gone over your target, I am 5 over my target goal, don't mind paying as I know I need SW for life as I have done this many times in the past with all the slimming groups and the pounds slowly crept on as did the bad habits.

Are you allowed the 3 pounds over target and then pay from that on or do you have to get back to actual target before you are free again? hope I am making sense!!
I am going to face the music I am being good again and it feels good when I stand on the scales, SW works!

    Hi Banoffe..
No, you just need to get back into your target range, so in your case you'd need to lose 2lbs to not have to pay..

Had a dreadful two weeks. Just about managed 1lb off over the fortnight. Glad I'm not up. I'm now 16lb down and 8 to go.

Don't knock a pound, Every loss is a loss.
I've had a couple of weeks where I only had a 0.5/1lb loss, the week after these I've had really good losses.

Have any of you read this?

Week 20, BOOM down 2.5 lbs = 44lbs lost, I'm thrilled.i Got My 3 stone award. Trying to aim for 10000 steps daily ( well the last 2 days anyway!) Onwards and downwards

Brilliant! I've lost 2 stone. Just one more to go. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,495 ✭✭✭✭eviltwin

Lost 4lbs today, total weight loss of 10lbs in two weeks. Its great and I'm delighted but I haven't been eating this week. One of the kids moved away and I've been too emotional to eat, I'm sure that's going to come back to bite me next week. I'm starting to get my hunger back now so going to try and eat as normal.

Hi all, I'm getting married at the end of the year and I am thinking of joining slimming world. I don't have much weight to lose and ideally would lose a half a stone before the wedding. I had read this thread and the previous thread and fair play to you all, you all have great losses! I was just wondering if SW would be suitable for someone with a small amount of weight to lose? Thanks in advance!

They will only accept you if you want to lose a minimum of 7lb and in doing so your BMI stays at 20 or higher.

My BMI was healthy to start but I want it down to minimum, which is 24lb total. I would recommend it, the plan really works without making you feel like you're missing out or going hungry. In my group there are plenty of healthy people who just want to be thinner, as well as people who want to get back to a healthy range and people who are losing baby weight or losing for a wedding.

There's not much risk in joining really and I find it can be a bit of a social thing in the group. Go for it!

    Sooo frustrated....

    Last 3 weeks, down 2.5lbs, down 2.5lbs, UP 0.5lb !!

Was a crazy week in work - loads of speed with plenty of walking, but irregular meals and I think that's what killed me.

Away on business all week this week so really need to make those better choices !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,468 ✭✭✭✭OldNotWIse

My goal was 3 stone. I'm down 2 pounds this week so I am a pound away from the 2 stone mark. Once I get into the final stone I will be delighted! :D

I'm a half lb away from my 1.5stone award, was hoping to get it this week BUT... I went out for dinner Sat night, three delicious courses & ordered pizza last night.
I don't weigh til Thursday so hopefully I can undo the damage by then :o

Like dried noodles that you add boiling water to. And also ones for a stir fry :)

Dreading weigh in wednesday evening having consumed approx 120 syns between Friday-Sunday (last weekend was worse but somehow I escaped and had a loss)! I Had an awful weekend emotionally so bad food made a big appearance. Minimal syns today and tomorrow but possibly be my first (deserved gain coming)!!! Back on it from today 9,000 steps done and plenty of water...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 452 ✭✭fishy_fishy

Heading down this evening. Dreading it. Saw too many friends in off-plan restaurants over the last week to not have a gain.

It's just getting harder and harder to lose anything. I'm trying the happy pear happy heart plan for the week to see if a "whole food plant based diet" can kick my metabolism up a gear.

Find out soon how I'm doing...

Down half a pound. It's not amazing, but it's the right direction and it's still more weight gone.

The amoy straight to wok iron noodles are free and very handy for a speedy stir fry.

The straight to wok noodles aren't free, they have an oil coating so there is a syn value, not particularly high syns but not free. The dried noodles are free..

Really? Wow I'm sorry I didn't know that, I read your post and seen 'iron', obviously a mistake so didn't realise you meant udon. Are they nice? I usually just syn the Amoy curry noodles, but I would rather save the syns!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,104 ✭✭✭Whiplashy

Joining my local group this week. I've done SW before but as an online member. I've previously lost 6 stone (combination of plans) but have put 5 of it back on. I've been losing and regaining the same stone since January so need to do something to get my motivation back.

Dreading going to group as I have anxiety issues, and no idea what to expect. It's also going to be an evening group and I'm used to weighing first thing in the morning so I know I'll weigh heavier. On the plus side, I'm really looking forward to finally getting my hands on hi-fi bars!

I've an all inclusive holiday booked in a few weeks, so I'm probably mad for joining up before hand, but I need to get it out of the way before I change my mind again.

Stupid autocorrect! I find the udon noodles very handy - add them straight into your stir fry and a very easy quick one pot dinner.
It's a very easy dinner for nights when you really don't want to cook, but want to stay on plan. Stir fry beef/chicken strips, bag of stir fry veg, straight to wok udon noodles. Cooks in no time at all and full of speed also.

I do that but would previously have used the curry noodles (1.5 syns) , I just hate wasting syns on things that can be replaced with free food!
So thanks for that and I'm sorry about the confusion again ;)

I slipped out of my target by a couple of pounds during the summer (holidays, kids off school etc), and I'm delighted as I'm officially back in target!

My aim is to get to the bottom of my target now, so I've to lose 6lbs, I'm determined to get that in the next few weeks. I want to have a few pounds to play around with so I can relax a little on occasion.
I hope everyone is doing well this week? :)

I'll PM you a post about what happens at a group if you want? I was sick with the nerves going to my first few groups but they're grand. Everyone there is in the same boat as you! I find it really helpful to stay for the full group, if you can manage it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,468 ✭✭✭✭OldNotWIse

I've a stone to lose to get to target and I would love to do it by Christmas when all the parties etc. are on. The two stone I have lost took a long time and I don't want to rush the last stone in case it rushes back on. Slow and steady seems to be the only thing that worked for me. Then again, three months is well enough time to ditch a stone! :o

Week 21 down 1 lb = 45lbs lost, I'm thrilled as I was fully sure I gained. My motivation is waning a little though need to have a talk with myself!!!Onwards and downwards

Does anyone know if there are any offers coming up for buying the 12 week countdown??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,104 ✭✭✭Whiplashy

Signed up this evening. Wasn't too bad but the scales read higher than I was expecting. The image therapy seemed pretty pointless. Not sure if I'll bother staying next week. I didn't like the fact that the gains and losses were announced, and I expected more from it. I don't see what benefit I'm supposed to get from hearing what others gained or lost.

I didn't set a target yet. I know what weight I want to get to but it's a good bit away. Wondering if I might be better off setting smaller targets along the way. Ideally I'd like to get 2 stone gone by Christmas so I might set it for that. I'll have a think about it over the next few days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,503 ✭✭✭Sinister Kid

    Up 1.5lb this week :(
It was expected though. I was out for dinner Sat, friends over Sunday so ordered pizza & on Tuesday I have a customer evening in work that ran later than it should have so my dinner was a plate of cheeses, chutneys & prosecco. To top that off I had a three tier wedding cake to make & I may have licked the spoon a few times.

Other than the week I was away I haven't had a bold week since starting SW so I'm not going to feel bad about it. Back on plan, going to give it 100% & hopefully I will undo the damage by next weeks weigh in.

2 will get me my 1.5 stone award... I was only 0.5 away :o

I bought a soupmaker, it is deadly!
I got up this morning, made tea then put a couple of carrots, half an onion, some broccoli, cauliflower & veg stock in the soupmaker, pressed a couple of buttons... drank tea while getting ready for work... 20 min later, fresh soup ready & I'm walking out the door for Work!
Just had a big speedy bowl of it there for my lunch :D

Maintained this week. I had a good week in that I didn't eat over my syns for the week but had a few days where I wasn't feeling great and I only had a bit of yogurt and a mug shot all day. Could this be the reason?

I don't know the science behind but I'd say yes. I ate far more than would have been normal for me my first week of SW and lost 3.5 lbs. Have lost 2 lbs a week steadily for the last 4 weeks eating loads but always optimising and everything from scratch.
My friend who joined with me also loses steadily every week except a week she was sick and barely ate, just noodles /yoghurt and mugshots.
    Keep going,you'll get there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,104 ✭✭✭Whiplashy

I can't believe how much food I've eaten the last couple of days. Stuck to plan completely, but a bit sceptical that I'll actually lose weight eating this much.

Does anyone know how much the hi-fi bars cost? I'm officially addicted and would like to budget for getting some every week. Paid for everything together at group so not sure how much I paid for the bars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 641 ✭✭✭waxmelts2000

They are E3 per box of 6 ,my favorites are the mint and the orange , I have tried the rocky road and the choc macaroon they are ok but the others are yum! I buy a countdown pay for 5 classes and get the 6th free E45 (however I think when you buy this tell them if you have any holidays coming up)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,104 ✭✭✭Whiplashy

Can you buy the countdown anytime? I read somewhere that there was a Christmas countdown coming up soon. Is that the same thing? I'm going on hols in a few weeks but would be interested in a countdown after that.

I have bought the countdown since I started as I get paid monthly so I find it easier (just the 5 for 6),
I think sometimes they may have offers if you buy a 12 week countdown where you get a food diary planner journal not 100% on this though it maybe just christmas and summer that you get something free±

I normally buy the 12 week countdown. First time I got one of the new recipe books for free. When that countdown finished I signed up again for another 12 and then they announced the next week that anyone signing up from that week on would get a free food diary, bit annoying that I missed out by not just waiting a week but sure that's life! Holding out now from getting another one as I'm sure there'll be one coming up for a 12 week countdown til Christmas.

I seen somewhere, can't remember where, that the 12 week countdown coming up to Christmas will get you the new comfort food recipe book.

Looking for some opinions. I have a final target in mind. It's the weight I got to when I did SW online before, and though technically overweight, I was happy at that number. However, since I was doing it online I weighed with no clothes first thing in the morning. Now I'm going to group it's an evening weigh in, and obviously with clothes on. Do I need to adjust my target to take this into account? Would there be much of a difference?

Your weight can fluctuate during the day and yes there would be a difference between a morning and evening weigh in, and even if you wear the lightest clothes there could still be a difference.
Why don't you leave your target as is, get to it, and you can still lose 3lbs under that and still be at target?
