I'm thrilled with mine, excellent phone for the price

Hi just wondering is anyone having problems with charging their g5?

Very few chargers actually work (the charging indicator comes on but the % actually goes down) and the one or two I have that work don't even charge sometimes.

I think there's something wrong with the battery tbh.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,819 ✭✭✭Alkers

Does it work with the supplied charger? I'm guessing that the chargers that don't work are old and don't provide enough current for the g5 to charge. This can be down to the charger unit or even the USB lead used.

On and off. The connection is also very loose.

I've just started using a Kindle Fire charger and it seems to be working grand.

My brand new g5s plus charger didn't work out of the box. Just told Amazon and they gave a partial refund , the Amazon brand chargers work really well, that's what I got out of the refund

What price and where did you buy? I am looking for a g5 plus now.

Yes , I sent one back. Still waiting for refund though. Had a similar problem, wouldnt read the sim for ages, kept losing signal, turning sim on/off helped but for a new g5s+ it was ridiculous.

Is there much reason as to why I should chose either of these moto's over a Galaxy A3 2017 ?

I know the samsung has half the RAM but is that noticeable to the average person ?

Online reviews are a bit hit and miss I've found and seeing people on this thread sending them back doesnt inspire confidence.

Also, is the plus worth the extra over the ordinary version ?

Lenovo Moto G5S Plus had a system update pushed to it this evening.

    ---

    Android version: 7.1.1

Your Moto G5S Plus has been successfully updated to new version:
    NPSS26.116-26-8

Security patch level: 1 January 2018

    ---

    Unlocked Euro version. (XT1805)

    Fix for 'KRACK' vulnerability.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,026 ✭✭✭Amalgam

March patch being pushed out for the Lenovo Moto G5S Plus.

Received it on an XT1805 variant (Europe, Dual SIM), this morning.

    EDIT:

    Android version: 7.1.1

    Current version: NPSS26.116-26-11

Security patch level: 1 March 2018

    ---

Nice to see this phone getting security patches. Patches on low to mid pricing Moto handsets can be nonexistent..

I have the Moto G5 Plus unlocked EU version.
    Security updates are every quarter.
Better than none, but certainly not as good as monthly.
Still waiting on Oreo too (I expect it'll happen after the G6 is released)

If you're willing to wait, these Chinese cases are all over eBay and dirt cheap, typically 1 to 2 euro each. P&P Free.

I use the version for the Moto G5S Plus.

Make sure you're buying the one for the Moto G5S, which has the mic hole, top center of the case, instead of off to one side, for the G5.

I'm mot sure, but a quick eBay search of Moto G5S case will get you matching image results, with that distinctive, fake, recessed 'carbon weave' area, top and bottom.

Close to the Spigen, but without the logo hole in the middle. As I said, the price is never above 3 euro, straight from China.

Needless to say, you'll be waiting a while.

    Having shocking trouble charging still.

One charger out of about 10 works, and the chargers work on my other devices.
The one that works doesn't work all the time either. I have to remove the battery, factory reset etc.

Contacted Amazon and they told me I have to get onto Motorola which I couldn't be bothered doing.

My phone was gone a bit sluggish.. If I press home circle button there's a 2 second lag before it reacts. And also if i delete a picture in Google photos it take 3-5 seconds to go to the bin.

Anyone else have any lag issues?

I just fixed similar issue on my G5 plus.
A factory reset fixed the issue for me.

Oreo 8.1 is being pushed to 'reteu' (Europe Retail - Amazon FR DE ES IT etc)

UK Retail were getting Oreo last week, 'reteu' has been a long time coming. Plenty of exasperated whingeing on the Lenovo forums.

Worth to note: The update is 1205MB in size. Connect to wifi and let it download..

I'm about to install it myself.. I'll back up a few things first.

Updated earlier, not much to shout about really, I don't like the new drop down shortcut menu tbh
