I doubt they'd hold a press conference to back down.

    Interesting development.
Let's assume Kildare are doing a U-turn (big new stadium on the way...)
They will have serious support in Croke Park and serious momentum behind them (underdog, poorly treated, lost home advantage etc. etc. all true by the way)

I now see them as a tougher proposition than I did when I heard the draw yesterday.

They don't have any other option. Either that or get kicked out of the championship and lose whatever funding they may get for stadium redevelopment.

I, for one, welcome our new/old CCCC overlords

If they are kicked out I imagine that they will appeal and maybe to court level. That will be a headache to the GAA An injunction could hold up the Super 8's and Mayo might still have to play in September and lose again. The curse is still in play

Rumor is kildare players going to speak. If call for gpa player boycott, will mayo members abide or cross a potential picket? As others have said this could go to high court and hold up super 8

No point in a court case, home advantage is given to the team pulled out first subject to approval by the CCCC.
The GAA has it covered so I expect a climb down at the press conference.

Have you a link to where it says in the rules that it's subject to cccc approval?

I've just been reading about it and can't find anything other than cccc will confirm fixtures, nothing about a right to change them.

    From the official GAA page
Note: Home Venues shall be subject to approval by the Central Competitions Control Committee and shall meet the criteria set down by the National Facilities/ Health and Safety Committee.

Yes I've seen loads of people saying this, but I haven't seen anyone produce the actual rule that states this

Page 97 refers to round 3 with no mention of fixture. That only appears in All Ireland Quarter Final group stage.

I thought there were a specific set off rules for the All-Ireland qualifiers and the super eights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 617 ✭✭✭franklyon

Ah not as clear cut as I thought it was. Misguided you are right.

Cian O'Neill's press conference has been cancelled...Are Kildare going to backtrack??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,349 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

As Bjork once said "It's oh so quiet".

But think about it, if Mayo keep winning then there will be loads to talk about almost non stop from Saturday until at least August Bank holiday.

    Can't wait.

Sorry for quoting my own post but it's been non stop with this Kildare debacle for the last few days.

Highly doubt it as most of the clubs in kildare are showing there support towards the stance , he had to cancel the press conference due to work commitments I believe

That story is changing by the minute. In fairness, the work commitments thing was difficult to believe in the first place anyway as you'd make bloody sure you were able to attend a press conference you had called so publicly this morning on an issue so topical and time-significant. The diary would have been cleared in advance.

He was told not to have the press conference. It'll be solved behind closed doors between the GAA and county board.

Going to pick one up at the gate!

Wonder if the Kildare players have been having their say behind closed doors. Could it be that they have indicated that they want the game played where ever?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,639 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

If Kildare stick to their guns then the GAA, not just legally but in the court of public opinion, do not have a leg to stand on.
To now come out with that rubbish from one Croke Park huncho that they are concerned that there would be trouble between fan in Newbridge due to some not having tickets while others had is sheer baloney.
There has always been more demand for tickets for All Ireland Final days than seats available, but I have yet to see a riot on Drumcondra Road because of it.

They have been playing fast and loose with this whole health and safety argument over ground capacity for way too long when the world and its mother knows it is simply about revenue.

What happens in the FA cup when Man Utd are drawn against a low level team? They don't change the venue,

Not sure if there's a special rule for Mnchester United but this idea that non-League soccer teams always plays at home is erroneous. Sometimes they cash in.

For example, Yeading played Necastle United in the 2005 FA Cup at QPR's ground rather than their own as they had only a 3,500 capacity. This has almost taken on article of faith status but is far from a given.

O'Neill was told to shut up by the Kildare County Board. Harsh imo, he even bought a new suit and was going to premiere it at the press conference.

That's fair enough, I know sometimes teams want to cash in. Kildare don't want to cash in, and it's in the rules that they get home advantage.

Pretty bad that other county boards aren't expressing solidarity with Kildare.
