Yeah, diving and gamesmanship. Not befitting a captain of this county, or any for that matter.

To be fair, He is acting up a bit but he is a quality player who just needs to find his form back. There are loads of guys in other teams like Kerry who take cheap shots as well. He just needs to bring the aggression to his game and not the opposition player. I expect him to come back good so he just needs a bit of time. The miss from this game may be the kick he needs to get over this slump.

I’d not bother with the dubs thread lads

They are not representative of matchgoing Dublin supporters. Away ones anyway . Again they brought great noise and colour .
As far the ones moaning about mayo slowing down Cluxtons kick outs by throwing a n extra ball on the pitch.........if they were at the match rather than behind a keyboard they would have seen it was the netting behind the goal that was springing the ball back out whilst Cluxton had a second ball already ready to go. The fact the same thing happened Hennelly for the same reason must have escaped their attention

Not to excuse him but he comes across as somebody who is very frustrated and possibly not entirely enjoying his football.

Perhaps it's all that tracking back he undertakes as opposed to staying inside.More likely the toll of so many disappointments.

I certainly agree his need to refocus his aggression.I am confident he will get his mojo back,he is simply too good a player.

I agree with you he is too good and will return. I think people are jumping far to early on him and give him a bit of space/time.

What pisses me off is that there are dks in other counties that think they have no players that never make a bad judgement call. There are loads of bucks in the top teams that are just as guilty. It's just an opportunity to have a go at him but they see him as a threat I suppose. It is the same with Keegan but I would take these guys every day of the week on the Mayo team.

Over 15,000 there tonight with a huge Dublin contingent. Great atmosphere brought by the dub fans tonight, it has to be said.

We missed an open goal, frees and play points that could easily have the game going either way. But to counteract that I thought once Dublin got 4-5 points ahead they relaxed which is a dangerous thing to do. They should have put the boot in and were not allowed to do so, which is a big positive I take from tonight.

Simple things got away from us today like tight marking on dub kickouts, forwards getting easily pulled out of position, repeating moves and telegraphing.

Defence overall was very good though imo, despite the dubs doing an awful lot of running here and there that definitely made me dizzy.

Again overall just down to a few kicks of the ball. Work to do, but definitely not down or out by any means.

I can't get over how fit they are.12 months a year at the same level.I suppose after doing a three in a row the celebrations were short lived.Nonetheless they're not long back from their South African holiers either. There is one simple explanation their collective thirst for success is insatiable.

TBH I was expecting a far worse defeat pre match.Mannion for me is turning into their most important forward, oodles of pace, excellent skillset and a very sweet ciotog.Eoin O Donoghue had a baptism of fire but I think he came out the far side relatively intact. He was knocked cold by the sheer championship type pace of the first ten minutes.

We hung tough in the first half after an awful start. The squandered goal chance and missed frees in the second half were totally demoralising for the lads yet they kept going.

Dublin coasted the second half but didn't push on as ruthlessly as I'd expect.Having said all that without doubt they would have moved up another gear if things got really tight.

Last night further emphasised David Clarke is our first choice goalkeeper. We do badly need an in form Cillian both from a general play and freetaking perspective.

Andy's movement is still quality but he lacks pace and pitches this time of the year aren't suited to him.He was easily beaten to numerous passes inside.I won't labour any point about the quality of said passes. Please please may Adam Gallagher and Conor Loftus get more game time.

I thought Paddy Neilan had a poor night at the office, infuriating from both teams viewpoints.

Here's hoping for a draw up in Donegal.TBH I can only see a Donegal win. It's a travesty of justice they have no points considering the quality of football they have played thus far in the league.

Perception is a funny thing cos I thought the ref was excellent
He pulled both teams up early in game for off the ball fouling
He punished anyone trying to stop a quick free
    He was CONSISTENT
These 3 things helped stop any melees developing and players were not getting frustrated
He also awarded AOS some frees and didn't allow him become a punch bag
And he had the temerity to penalize Dublin for overcarrying. TWICE.

Id be happy for him ref out match against Galway ...........

Why isnt Conor Loftus starting at the moment? It would seem a good time to give him a run of games?

He was involved in the Sigerson Cup with DCU until recently when they knocked out in the semi final.

He started against Galway after coming on in the earlier league games.Game didn't go his way against Galway in spite of making some good runs.He spilled a few balls.

It'll be interesting to see what squad we have for Kildare. Cillian and Seamie are back at least. Harrsion and Parsons will hopefully be alright. Having Leeroy back is a big boost.

Does anyone think Cian Hanley can nail a place in the team? Half Forwards is an area where we do have some depth.

That struck me too. I don't think they took a break at all, even when on hols. Training to stay at that level all year round has to take a mental toll on amateur players.

Ref was very good, controlled things very well.

He surely has to offer more scoring threat than drake who offers zero

This. 100 times this. He managed to control the game in a far better manner than most refs do. Set the tone for the game, and cut out the niggly ****e that tends to spill over all too often.

This was my thoughts on him too. He kept the game under control in my opinion and aos got most of what he deserved in fairness.

Yes it would make sense to give him a period of sustained play but at least he gave Adam Gallagher a crack. He needs to bulk up a bit to win more 50/50 ball, take the pressure and hits. I don't get Rochford at times and the Galway game was a disaster for inside forwards with the way galway played and our slow build up play.

On a freezing night in Castlebar there were precious few home comforts for Mayo on Saturday night when they took on Dublin at MacHale Park, with Stephen Rochford’s team falling to their third defeat in a row in this year’s league campaign. This latest loss plunges the county back into an all too familiar battle to avoid relegation, though with three matches still to come their cause is far from hopeless.Host Rob Murphy opens this week’s edition of the podcast shortly after the final whistle sounded at MacHale Park where he gets the thoughts of Mayo News columnist Sean Rice.We hear post match reaction to the game from both Stephen Rochford and Jim Gavin and we also get views on the game from Mayo supporter Louis Gunnigan and Edwin McGreal of the Mayo News.Wrapping up this episode,Rob talks tactics in a post match context with Mayo News columnist Billy Joe Padden.

Gluttons for punishment. Some very decent analysis by Sean Rice on a slightly surreal occasion.

Interesting thoughts by Billy Joe.He believes Dublin aren't beatable by opting for short kickouts and working your way up the pitch with the quality of their tackling all over said pitch.

Hard to win a traditional midfield shootout with the Dubs over seventy minutes via the long kickout with Fenton and co in place even if his hypothesis and common sense points to an easier route to a score against a quality of tackle pitch wide such as they have.

I'm fascinated tbh to know to why he has been on the Mayo panel for a few years now. Don't recall him doing anything remotely significant in a Mayo jersey.

I just hope Galway don't do again what they did in 98 after all our effort in 96 and 97. It's just like what would happen!

I suppose if (Galway ) they are good enough , good luck to them . If not us anyone from Connacht and then any other county that does not win it regularly . At this stage thats nearly anyone but Dublin , Ok Maybe Kerry but even they aren’t put up much of a fight against Dublin these days .

True and fair play if they do it. We have had some time over the last few years and the day will come when we will bow out for a while but we will be back. I don't expect this to happen this year and the guys are still young so we are still there.

Its also so early to be drawing any real conclusions but one thing for sure is that we have a serious game in May that if we don't start playing our attacking style from our half back together with faster ball kicked into our forwards we will be beaten as they will pack the defense and hit us on the break like they are doing to all teams so far. I am not sure if they have any other tactic to this but they will get better at this.

It would be great if we could get a bit of form and get someone like Vaughan in FB and make sure Clarke is always in goals. I would expect Keegan, COC and others to start upping their game as well.

Hard to know what to make of Saturday after having such low expectations coming into the game.

Was a four point loss that finished with three tap over frees a good outcome ?
Did Dublin only score 1-1 in the second half because that’s all they need to score or was it because Mayo stopped them doing much more ?

I remember one spell of possession in the second half where Dublin just held and held and held the ball for almost two minutes, but Mayo stood firm and eventually turned it over.

Cillian needs to get his free kicking back in order, it was brilliant for a good few years, he needs to be converting what Doherty and Moran could not the last night, I’m sure he and everyone else knows that well too.

Other than Gallagher having that miss I can’t remember the forwards doing much else.
I still think they will beat Kildare (if they can’t then we may as well start preparing for Div 2) but the other two games might be tougher, and I still think that they are going to be good for May 13th.

I’d be quiet happy to see Galway get to the league final and get tattooed by Dublin (who they also play in the penultimate league game) while Mayo finish the league stronger than they started it, which is always the key.
