I got a response from the ASAI in relation to Grace's snaps where she was doing her hair in front of a placed Meaghers pharmacy bag (something she does a lot). They basically did nothing other than ask her and them was it an ad, which obviously they both said it wasn't planned and not an ad.

Do they not see this is a way of advertising a company/product by placing it in the background. Basically getting around regulations.

But if the blogger is not saying for example this shampoo is marvellous get it in Meaher's then it is not an ad. If you look at many shows on the TV you will see similar stuff. For example, on Mrs Brown's Boy's you can a sliced Brennan's Bread wrapper very clearly visible. I don't know but I would assume that Brennan's pay for this so this is a subtle form of advertising.
At the end of the day we have legislation in place and watchdogs so if they see nothing wrong with it then that's fine.

Yeah but if you are watching Mrs Brown's Boy's or any show on TV, they are required to have a 'P' in the corner when the credits start at the beginning of the episode to let viewers know of the product placement in the show.

Essentially that's what it appears that Grace had done with her bag in the background, put obviously without warning to the viewers. Maybe there should be stricter rules set in place so that doesn't happen, but imo, I'd say it's harder to govern than it is to tell the blogger to use the appropriate hashtags and I can bet you Grace knows of the loophole and that's how she trying to get around it, as she's been caught out before.

I haven't seen the snaps ye are on about so I don't know, but is there any chance the bag being in the background was just pure coincidence? Maybe she had bits and bobs in it that she was using for filming.

I haven't seen the snaps myself, so I really shouldn't say that she done it deliberately. I just think that if she had, it's more of a product placement issue and that would be hard to govern I'd say

True. But it could be as harmless as just having the bag there and throwing stuff into it that you're using for filming. Like we all know she works with Meaghers. I'm not sure what having the bag there is supposed to to? Entice us further? Hypnotise us?! I'd say it's a harmless coincidence. But it's also symptomatic of how untrustworthy they have become that things like this even become an issue.

I think it's gas as well that when they're showing clothes from Zara on Snapchat, they don't bother linking them cos they're not affiliated and so they don't get paid. They'll only be arsed to link them if there's payback for them. It's just "I got this in Zara it's prob still on the website".. but Asos, River Island etc, well they'll fall over themselves to provide the link for you.
Grand like I don't begrudge them making money (as long as they're open it's affiliated) But it just goes to show who is actually in it for the love of blogging, showing followers what's out there, etc etc,, and who is in it only for $$$ when they won't actually make an effort to provide content if it can't be monetised.

i'm not a big fan of Rosie however she was the only blogger (that i notices) who mentioned that the YSL stuff was sent to her and showed herself opening the fancy advent calendar style packaging. the rest all went straight into doing their makeup with it. Pippa did mention she wasn't a fan of one of the items she tried, and Grace loved them all.....

Rosie always snaps the codes of the clothes she gets in zara so you can find it on website.

Why not link them though like she does everywhere else?

It's paid product placement and most shows with PPP actually put itvinbthe credits. Fair city donit before the show starts

I have to say, I think Grace can be a divil for misleading. I remember a good few weeks ago reading on one of those FB groups (I think it was Galz who snap) and someone posted a picture of her snaps where she had hidden the #sp in a light grey behind her name and time on the top left hand corner.

Be interesting to see how many use the new Instagram feature. Makes it nice and clear, no searching through a million hashtags to find #ad somewhere lost in the middle.

Though for what it's worth this guy actually had #ad in the caption too.

Hardly any I'd say! When they (some) still can't #ad on snapchat right they prob won't be able to do that right either!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭heyjude88

Guys what's the story with all this make up academy #ad? So sue me was in today, gave the whole speech about her being such a good friend of the owner blah blah. If she was such a good friend would
She not have just done it for free? Also Grace was in last week, Rosie last month. A few others have been in also. Literally the exact same information, same questions same snaps. very weird. Good that it's clear it's an ad, but Rosie or Terrie had no ad up.

Also so Sue's make up wasn't great in my opinion. One eye looked bigger than the other. If you look at her last snaps in the car one eye liner is much thicker and makes her eyes weird .

The classes must not be filling up if so many bloggers have had to be called in for an ad !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 709 ✭✭✭frogstar

Oh I thought that about the eye too! Kept looking at both, it was really weird. The right eye looked much bigger than the left.

FBG was there a few weeks ago and her makeup wasn't great either

I just tapped through as had no interest either.

To be fair, even if she did do it for free If it was a friend, she would also have to use #ad too as the outcome would still be the same.

SoSueMe has sold the jeans that cost €7 that she got for free from her Penneys #iworkwithpenneys haul for €10 not including postage on depop.

€7 jeans that were on sale, that she didn't even pay for herself, only showed on her snapchat last week, sold for profit.

I actually can't get over the cheek of it.

Double posting but I actually can't get over how brazen that is. Wow. That's an all time low for any blogger. I can't get over it!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭idunno78

I've seen that, big thread on Fb about it. Crazy, but as someone said idiots buying it!! There are people that would buy anything of bloggers!!!

Also it drives me bonkers like a pet hate or something (very sad I know!!!) that they can't seem to put #ad on all there snaps. Sue had them on about 5/6 snaps of th whole makeup thing! It's your job do it right!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 218 ✭✭gossipgirl10

I notice a lot lately that they will be reviewing (I use that term lightly) or will have received the same item as other bloggers and some will use #ad or #sp while others won't.... is it that they aren't 100% sure when they need to use it, are some just not using it when they should or are some of them getting paid and some aren't? It's all very confusing. It's gotten so boring viewing majority of their content now that's all just ads there is nothing new we haven't heard of before or that it's all same product shown by 20 different people

SoSueMe's snapchat was allads today. Grand they're declared, her makeup looked awful though.
But if they're building a house I'd love to know did self build "get in touch" or was Dyl firing off emails looking for a bit of free land.

Sue did an #ad with some makeup academy today and of course the makeup artist used Sue's Hot Fire palette.
Hope Sue showed her how to use it properly first since it's not for professionals...

I just added her on snap there to have a look. It wasn't a very good advertisement for the Make up Academy because the eye make up was shocking.

The poor girl, mortified. She was falling over herself to advertise sues products and she paying she to be there advertising the academy!! Seemed very nervous, but hope her business goes well.

She seemed like a lovely girl and had obviously prepared.
Would have thought they'd go for some of the stronger eyeshadow colours like bronze and brown to advertise the Hot Fire palette, not cream and beige. Especially given the criticism it's had for not being pigmented and wearing off. Surely it was a great chance to showcase it.

I'd say she had a limited time to do it, she made reference to the fact it was super quick and sue did seem to be rushing through it. Maybe she paid by hour? Didn't think it was appropriate for Sue to push her lashes or palette during a sponsored (by someone else) post.
Poor girl is paying her to come in to showcase her best work and clearly didn't get to do that with a mediocre palette

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 218 ✭✭gossipgirl10

Her two eyes did look different sizes it was weird! Those snaps went on wayyyy too long I had to skip through them I can't stand a million snaps in a row that start with "ok" or "so". God you have to feel for someone starting out their business if love to know how much she's paying all of them to promote her. So many of them have said they've known her for years and she's such a lovely girl god forbid they might just do her a favour and try and let people know about her without having to be paid for it

Seemed a bit mean alright. Sue is an established businesswoman raking in the cash, whereas this girl is only starting out and has obviously put a lot of time, cash and love into her new business. Let her be the focus!
I wonder whose idea the look was - the girl is ex-MAC and they can do incredible, very dramatic looks that really show off their skills. I didn't think daytime makeup like that showed off a MAC artist's skills to their full potential.

I know! Sue kept banging on about how long she's known the girl. Not long enough obviously...

The time it takes her to put the ad on depop and go to the post office for a tenner! Surely she's not that hard up.
