I’d suggest that you look at the full timetables on bustimes.org for the different routes - the stuff posted on stops of “every 15 mins” or “every 15-20 mins” are just approximate guides.

The every 15 mins relates to the terminus departure times, but around the shoulders of the peak headways will change due to the buses being slower before and faster later - it’s impossible then to keep the same frequency all along the route (unless buses are fed in along the way).

The full timetable is always the bible.

I'm looking at the time table that the NTA/Dublin Bus have put up along bus shelters along the F3 route.

Between 13:09 and 16:44 the expected frequency of the F3 is every 15-20 mins towards Charlestown. The F2 is every 14-15 mins (which I think is a bit weird to print but that's another story)

It's the only F route that has changed frequency from the 15 mins in every official publication about this route, including the booklet that was posted out, and I find it curious.

With all due respect, I have told you where to look to see the full detailed timetables where you can see the intervals on each of the three routes for every stop all along the route.

Go to https://bustimes.org/operators/dublin-bus and check the F1, F2 and F3 for next Monday.

I don’t have the time to analyse them all out for you myself.

The “every xx minutes” on the stop panels is just an estimate or average. It’s not gospel and should not be taken as such.

The detailed timetables are the bible.

Right, I don't think you're getting that I'm talking about official NTA/Dublin Bus publications and not a 3rd party site. I will keep and eye on it and see if the timings change through

Every piece of official communication and consultation around the F spine has had the F3 as a 15 min frequency at those times and now days before a launch, the F3 is now listed as 15-20 mins on a time table for some reason. And it's the only F route that has changed.

I just find it curious and I'm not asking anyone to spend time analyzing it tbf.

I fully appreciate what you’re looking at, but I also know from years of studying these things in detail that the NTA & Dublin Bus have managed to put pure drivel up on stops for years.

I’ve long since given up on them, rather using the full stop-by-stop timetable which unfortunately is only available from bustimes.org because neither the NTA nor Dublin Bus publish them on their own websites.

Genuinely, I really would not fixate on what is on those stop panels where it says “every xx mins” - it’s nothing more than an average and not to be taken literally. It could be just one departure that is out of kilter, and the other two routes may have them as well but it’s just not shown like that.

What I am trying to get across is that this sort of “every xx minutes” can be and often is inaccurate or certainly very misleading.

The F3 in both directions does indeed leave the terminus every 15 mins (except for one gap of 10 mins between two departures in each direction) during the daytime.

I get what you mean but I guess if they left it as "every 15 mins" and sure some of the buses are delayed 5, 10, 15 mins, etc, that's normal. Things happen.

I just find the deliberate use of 20 mins interesting/curious.

Bustimes.org uses the official timetables and shows much more detail in them than the NTA/DB/GAI do. They don't just make up their own timetable for a laugh.

The driver didn't stop for me on the S4. BusConnects + asylum seeker drivers = Bus Disconnects

Are there any drawings for this? Curious where they're finding the space

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,900 ✭✭✭✭MJohnston

There don't seem to be any drawings which I assume means it's just a paint job. Wonder if it'll only exacerbate the Cuffe Street to Kevin Street mess (2 lanes instantly becoming 1 through a major and busy junction)

I don't care whether you are being intentionally xenophobic, trolling to get a rise out of people, or both. All I know is such posting is not going to be accepted here and will earn infraction points rather than simply just warnings.

I'd advise you to reflect on your posting style with the aim of improving it in fuure, as if it does not improve, the next step will be a ban.

Bit of a strange question but if I was to buy two zone 1 weekly tickets at one , will one wait for the other one to finish before it starts or will they both start immediately when bought ?

It would be handy to have 2 weeks tickets bought upfront there and then. It's a pity you can't buy those tickets straight from your leap card credit either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,900 ✭✭✭✭MJohnston

You'd be better off asking this in a Leap Card thread, or starting your own. It's got nothing to do with BusConnects

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,073 ✭✭✭thomasj

TBf while you are correct that I would be in a better position if I ask this in the leap card, these weekly tickets I am querying about were brought in as part of the "simpler fare structure" brought in as part of Busconnects.

Anyway I'll raise it in the leap card thread

Just Mk 1 eyeball - physical sighting - the eastbound ones are in place now and the dotted lines indicating a westbound one going into place on Cuffe St should be painted in the next day or so in advance of the F-Spine commencing at the weekend.

The stops are trying to be as accurate as possible. They take the shortest and longest wait time and present that, in this case the shortest wait in this time period is 15 minutes and the longest is 20 minutes.

I have had a quick Look at the Tolka Valley stop for the F3 and can see there is just one occasion where there is a 20 minute gap - between 15:31 and 15:51. These two buses leave Greenhills with a 15 minute gap but the second one has been given longer running time and so it has spaced out by the time it reaches Finglas.

Personally, I’m not a fan of these frequency style timetables. They are a bit lazy and confuse people. They have clearly invested in stop specific timetables but then choose to not display the actual times and use an “every xxx” instead. Anything beyond 8 minutes should be detailed. It often undersells the service, as in this case you’d assume there could be a 20 minute frequency on this service throughout the afternoon when in fact that that’s only the case for one arrival to this stop.

I’ve just looked at the detailed timetables on www.bustimes.org for stop 1511 (Tolka Vale Northbound on the Finglas Road) and sure enough, as I suspected, there are similar gaps on the other two routes around the shoulders of the peaks where, while the buses depart the terminus at 15 minute intervals, the scheduled running times have to be extended to cope with the anticipated traffic along the route.

The F1 has a 22 min gap at that stop from 15:50 to 16:12.

The F2 has a 22 min gap at that stop from 15:25 to 15:47

The F3 as mentioned has a 20 min gap from 15:29 to 15:49

In the mornings they all have a 30 min gap at stop 1511 northbound for the same reason

    F1 07:46 to 08:46

    F2 07:13 to 08:13

    F3 07:15 to 07:45

In each case the buses leave the terminus 15 mins apart but the running time then extends out.

The only way that can be dealt with is by inserting additional departures from a midroute location.

While you can maintain a set frequency at the terminus, around the shoulders of the peak that becomes impossible further along the route.

There are then smaller intervals after each peak period at that stop as the running times reduce.

So @Daith it’s not just the F3 - the other two have it as well - the F1 & F2 may just have the specific times showing when it happens.

Can anyone tell me what routing the F1 takes when it reaches Finglas bypass heading to IKEA? Can't find any maps with any level of detail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,688 ✭✭✭p_haugh

The F1 will effectively mirror the 140 routing from the start of the Finglas Road until IKEA.

So alongside subjecting this forum to the shite you come out with, you’re also racist?

Brother every driver i see is nearly black, so you keep quiet, thanks.

Also, "fuure" is not a word. So I'd rather YOU focus on YOUR posts in the future, thanks.

II've already told you to reign it in. You've not listened and still kept on going with your below standard posting, racism and trolling and now are back seat moderating as well as discussing moderation.

That's almost a full house. So don't be surprised you're banned.

TFI staff out at some stops on Griffith Ave earlier handing out information booklets.

    Its a disgrace Joe!

Got the 123 home from the Walkinstown terminus yesterday and there was someone handing out booklets there as well. Also surprisingly, a DB training bus parked up while I was waiting for the next 123!

Probably because it's a good tight estate to teach trainees control in tight areas and get them ready for the test. Remember the trainees have to learn how to drive the bus and pass the test before they start learning the routes.
