4 and 6… 4 and 6!!!!! Can still remember the instructors drilling this in to our heads when I learned the 123 years ago, it referred to the exits of the 2 large roundabouts through the housing estate in Marino..

    Its a disgrace Joe!

What are the two notices displayed on the bus stop in your photo?

Happy to report that stops 8256 and 8259 are now in place at Beneavin Drive at Glasnevin Avenue.

There is still an 800m gap to the next stop outbound at “The Willows” despite there being more than enough space opposite stop 8255 on Willow Park Crescent.

It's very perplexing why they didn't put a stop for the other direction on Willow Park Crescent. Like you said, there's plenty of space.

The location for the stop 8259 is wrong in the TFI app. It shows it as being on Willow Park Road. 8258 is also incorrect. It's actually further up Ballygall Road East past the pedestrian crossing.

Another mistake I noticed is only the 24 is shown for stop 4369 on the Jamestown Road, despite the 23 also passing there.

There's also no chance the 24 will be able to serve stop 1633 at Dardistown. It's far too close to the right turn on to the Old Airport Road.

I think there's a similar issue on the 82 at stop 495 on Westland Row opposite Pearse Station. Very difficult to get into the outside lane for the right turn to Pearse St from it unless they remove some of the bollards.

I also notice that the new inbound stop on Merrion Square West is listed as set-down only for whatever reason.

No doubt said bollards will be green and white in no time

The timetable is too tight (on Sundays at least) for the 23 and 24. It doesn't help that the layover times at each end are very short.

The 73 seems to be running smoothly. Will be interesting to see if that will last.

There was road work's on South great George's earlier which didn't help on the 1st day, even on the 80 was very slow at times.

Did anyone go on the F routes for the first time today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,329 ✭✭✭Daith

Yeah, unfortunate some are still showing scheduled though.

The bus I'm on is picking up people who I'd normally see getting the old 40 at 07:25 (ish) or 7:35 (ish).

Once we get onto the F spine proper, definitely picking up less people tbf.

the 24 looks like bit of a shambles. At least trying to track buses. I know early days…
Pulled out of my drive this morning looking at a 24 bus gingerly manoeuvring through our side road , which is NOT the official route, surprised it didn’t get stuck.

(Maybe that’s whey they are not tracking atm, so they take any route the driver fancies - lol. )

So an hour to get from Finglas Sth to D'Olier St. Largely because it took 20 mins to clear the Whitworth Road, presumably because of bad weather.

A lot of 23 and 24s have been cancelled this morning. I saw a few F3s cancelled also.

There's a 23 (actually tracking on Bus Times) taking the 24 route.

What's making up for the 54a in Donnybrook?

Nothing for now - they need space for electrification works.

Tried it out and spoke to a few people. The 24 to the airport is welcome but the driver we had skipped the stops at the hotels inside the airport and went straight out onto the main road. He later ran a red light, seemed like he didn't know what was going on.

The Whitworth road routing is a complete disaster. The 140 was relatively reliable at peak times but now you're talking an extra 20 minutes on a Finglas to City Centre journey which means it's no longer competitive with driving a car, and super uncompetitive with bike

The F3 is a serious downgrade on the 40 in terms of frequency, bus stops have big groups of people waiting all along St Helena's road, F3s were packed this morning

And as expected multiple cancellations and ghost buses. All round it looks like yet another NTA blunder but we have an additional airport connection (provided the drivers learn how to drive eventually)

If the F2 continued down Cardiffsbridge Road then operated up Wellmount Road to Finglas Road that may help with crowds and the lack of frequency in Finglas South?

I agree the Whitworth Road is a disaster.

Looks to be another disaster similar to the G spine when it first started. Maybe bus connects hasn't been the silver bullet everyine thought it would be okay the orbitals and 24 hour routes have both been positive but the majority of the spines and city centre routes have been no improvement over what was there before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,819 ✭✭✭john boye

I think this is one of the spines that looked shaky even before it started. I can't speak for the Northside but that Kimmage/Harold's Cross corridor is one of the worst traffic spots on the Southside in the morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,302 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Sounds like he took the correct route.

The 24 is not scheduled to serve the stop at the Radisson.

Like the 19 it is scheduled to operate via the main airport roundabout and then the Swords Road.

Horrible weather not helping as everyone seems to have jumped into their car.

Whitworth road is unsolvable - no bus lane and no room for one on either side unless you take the gardens off the entire road , no alternative either really. Only possible answer is bus lane the entire road

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,313 ✭✭✭✭cgcsb

I like this solution, I always thought Welmount road could do with a bus service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,313 ✭✭✭✭cgcsb

It could be solved with a bus gate at Vision Ireland and general traffic would have to take Iona road or some other alternative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,329 ✭✭✭Daith

I think you could technically solve the Whitworth Road issue, but the alternatives wouldn't go down too well politically, "rat running in Iona Road", etc.

The Dublin Bus office on O'Connell St has printed booklets if anyone is looking for one for a parent who isn't great with phones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,638 ✭✭✭VG31

They may have being referring the Maldron Hotel stop opposite the McDonald's, which the 24 is meant to stop at.

You could make home farm road the official diversion but ultimately the goal is to make the bus fast and attractive and the car slow and inconvenient.
