To add on to my point, if the Government doesn't have any money for the NTA, this proves that Ireland is in poverty.

Buses bunch up, it happens for various reasons, traffic, loadings etc.

I mean if you're looking at the S4 for morning peak there is 5 services timetabled to leave Liffey Valley within 10 minutes to provide capacity on the route. Nobody is waiting 30-40 minutes this morning, they run every 10.

GAI put more buses on it because it's one of their most frequent routes, it's pretty straight forward.

Also the NTA purchase buses not GAI

Also GAI having 250 buses in their to date is not going to be the maximum figure of their fleet in the near future.

They recently won a contract from the NTA to build 2 more depots for their ODMA routes to expand their operations to facilitate the rollout of new routes for the remaining phases of BusConnects Dublin. That new contract consists of 1 new depot in North Dublin & 1 new depot in South Dublin/North Wicklow. Their current depot in Ballymount will also be used to run their current routes as well.

If you looked at the photos of the recent NTA presentation posted here from another poster recently in this thread. It says it will have 118 new buses delivered for 2025. I don't know how many will be split up between DB/GAI/BÉ. Although I'm sure that there will be more on order once more new routes get up and running in Dublin for this year and for the one after it.

I disagree, because back when the 75 existed, at least someone was looking over the other buses so other 75's don't bunch up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,935 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

When the 75 started way back, I think their was one an hour, which meant there was no chance of bunching. Sometimes people get nostalgic for things that didn't exist. Even towards the end, when it had half-hour frequency it was one of the five worst performing buses.

The 75 was every half hour at best, it's hardly going to bunch up. Lets not be silly here comparing a 10 min freq v 30 mins

The same was for the 61 & the 44, near the Dundrum region at 7pm both routes would eventually ride together from the City to Dundrum.

It was once an hour. I think for the 44 it used to be once an hour during peak hours, but it changed since the 44D launched, meaning there's a service at 5:00pm, 5:30pm, and 6pm from the city.

Don't know if it's been mentioned here over the last few weeks, but the driver of a Bus Éireann service last night told me that Go-Ahead had "let go" 50 drivers over the Christmas period, hence, the delays to the new local services in Wicklow. Now, considering there is a driver shortage, I presume by 'let go', he meant 'quit', but it does seem to be Go-Ahead are the reason for the delay with the E-Spine phase. A Dublin Bus driver previously told me that they've been ready to go for months now.

Saying that, this phase is probably the biggest change so far and hopefully if it's done by the end of January, the next phases should move quicker. The F-Spine phase, which is likely next is, to the best of my knowledge, to be 100% Dublin Bus operated, so hopefully they will be ready to go on time again.

It worries me that there's only 2.5 weeks left until that alleged January date and there doesn't seem to be any official confirmation that it is going ahead…

But yeah, I hope that the phase is rolled out sooner than later, because while it does have its issues, it brings a massive upgrade to services around Bray and Greystones. I doubt that any issues with frequencies or routing will be addressed at this stage, most likely we'll just have to have the new services rolled out and then see what needs fixing and what turns out to work fine.

I posted a link a few weeks ago to a news article that the band bagatelle who wrote summer of Dublin (song mentions the 46a) were asked by Dublin bus to help celebrate the 46a in January but we're told it's been pushed back to March now.

Internal notice given today that we're implementing Phase 6a on the 26th

Interesting, because the whole time since Phase 5b launched, will there be a phase 5c at the very end of the whole BusConnects plan, to change the 44, 44b, 11, 116 and others?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,937 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Did this internal notice mention any changes for the 11 & the 19 route?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭BusGuy

The 11 is supposed to be cut-off from Parnell.

    The E1 & E2 24 routes will launch on Jan 26th?

That one didn't, but the 19 will terminate at Merrion Square

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,781 ✭✭✭Midnight_EG

The 11 will still service PSQ and continue to the Park, as will the 11B

📢Update on 11 bus and 46A from the National Transport Authority.
    🚍11 bus
📍19 bus will be introduced on Jan. 26th
📍New terminus of Merrion square and it will be phased in.
📍Between January 26th and April, the new 19 bus will terminate at Merrion square for the three peak morning buses and three peak evening buses. All other buses will terminate at Parnell Square. From April, all 19 buses will terminate at Merrion Square.
We are told that the interim arrangement is due to bus driver shortages.
    🚍46A

    • The section along the NCR will no longer be serviced by the 46A from January 26th. The 11 bus will replace this service.
🚍24hour E spine route will commence on January 26th.
The new terminus for the 19 is a great breakthrough. Serious questions remain about the removal of the 13.
I'm also very conscious of the deep unhappiness locally with the removal of the 46A. There are questions about the frequency of the new 11 service and the ease of cross city connectivity with locations like UCD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

Fair enough but in some way this feels like a failure of the "Connect" part of BusConnects.

Requiring more drivers to bridge the gap because people wouldn't switch to a E bus at Parnell or the Luas.

Be interesting to see if this impacts future routes.

Good result by the Save the 19 campaign though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,810 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

There aren’t many other routes like this though - only the 48 which also stops at PSQ.

Everything else does cross the city centre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

I'm not talking about just cross city routes but the expectation that people would adapt to changing services. The "Connects" part has definitely being wound back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

Assuming that this bus will go via Westland row and Pearse street, this will be a great addition for the area and a nice new connection for people on the DART line.

Will also be a nice new connection to the airport for the N4 route on the Ballymun road (will be better when the 24 comes along at Finglas and even better again when the N8 comes along )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,810 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

I don’t agree - the “connects” is still going to happen with the 11 & 19, the 4/Luas/C Spine and E Spine, and the E Spine/13 after this phase, and it’s certainly happening across the city with the new orbitals.

One single route is being amended now from the original plan to run a short distance cross-city from its planned terminus, which it really should have done from the outset.

The “connects” element is between spines, orbitals and locals. That hasn’t changed.

This was just posted on the local residents association Facebook page...

    ***11 bus route update***

We fought a good fight, we’ve been lucky to have received some concessions such as buses commencing from the existing 11 terminus 🛑 during peak times and in the future the 19 terminating at Merrion Square.

Thank you to our two local TDs who discussed the plans today.

The information they received was from the National Transport Authority (NTA) is as follows:

The 19 bus will replace the 11 on the 26th of January.

Between January 26th and April, the 19 bus will terminate at Merrion square for three peak morning buses and three peak evening buses. (We will communicate times as soon as we learn about them)

All other buses will terminate at Parnell Square. From April, all 19 buses will terminate at Merrion Square. (Most welcome news)

The phased approach is due to bus driver shortages.

E spine route will commence on January 26th, this is a 24hour service.

We know residents will be unhappy about the connection to UCD.

We requested a meeting with the NTA on Monday and will continue to work with our politicians to ensure the situation is monitored.

Thank you to those who have supported us.

Anyone any idea what those three peak time buses are?
