Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Shnakes making sure we couldn't get it today. Understandable anyway, Smyths are doing good with their prices and discounts on new games lately, nice change from the likes of Gamestop.

Ya, at €65 quid for a physical gold edition on release day, I wont complain......much. :o

Skillup gave it a very positive review but was fairly negative about the microtransaction piece. Completed game and only unlocked a shotgun, sniper, some attachments and a couple of helicopters. If he'd tripled his in game currency he still wouldn't have unlocked everything.

Not that you should ever listen to Plygon but they have given it 6.5 saying "A very enjoyable game with an immense number of things to do, a beautifully recreated portion of the United States, and a collection of missions with wildly varying tones and structure. "

Oh the story didn't agree with their personal feelings so that's why the score is bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,909 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

As for the microtransactions, polygon wrote a separate piece on them and called them microtransactions done right, never needed them, unlocked a ton of weapons and vehicles, easy ways to make money if needed, basically opposite of what the above said.

Also read reviews that praised the story so mixed opinions all around. I'd take user reviews (particularly on boards) over journalists or 'contributors' anyday.

Ya, I'll give it a few days play before throwing down a solid opinion on it anyway.

You mean... like Far Cry 5? The game that features overt symbols of American nationalism, evangelism and gun culture in its cover art?

Is smyths the best price at €69.99 for the gold edition on PS4. No preference for physical or digital copy.

You can get it for 65 if you order it online for collection at your nearest store but it seems to be out of stock in most places.

Check Argos online first thing in the morning for their price. Their UK store is selling it for 60 pounds so it might be 68 to 70 over here.

Coming into work this morning was one of the more difficult recent decisions I've had to make. Working from home Thursday will be a serious test of resolve.

75 seems like decent money for the game, season pass and Far Cry 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

Was €90 digitally in the store. I didn't get that one but the deluxe version which gave some extra DLC for not much more than the standard game.

Picked mine up there from Smyths. Long day of work ahead. Anyone know if the Day One patch size is big. Have crappy wifi so hoping its small so I can get a few hours in tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I'm close enough to Smyths that I can get there on lunch, get home and fire it up to allow it to download while im in work for the afternoon.

Any idea what patch size this is out of the box?

I've read 800mb online but cant be sure. Doing the same, picked it up from Smyths this morning so planning on dropping it home at lunch. Hopefully patch not too big.

patch is 665mb on Xbox. Imagine PS4 is the same or similar.

It would be cool if you could download game updates in advance of getting the disc.

Only 6 hours work and a 38GB download standing between me and Far Cry now :( Gonna be a long day!

Watched that last night. Matched my concerns and hopes pretty evenly.
Absolutely no reason to Day 1 this when the complete edition (including DLC released by that stage) will be €22.99 in 4-6 months
If a person can finish the game and only have 1/4 of the guns unlocked, that does not sound like "microtransactions done right" to me.
This has all the signs of a runaway hype train, Ubisoft are no saints.
I hope those of you who did pick it up enjoy it and find it value for money, but I'm gonna wait to see how this plays out :)

Your post makes a lot of sense but I'm totally caught up in the hype so I'm currently feeling no regret over the extravagant price I've paid. I didn't even need to buy it as I have plenty on the go at present.
Credit cards and alcohol make these kind of things an easy purchase.
I've seen arguments both ways over the microtransactions here but I can't make piece with it and think it's a lousy system.

Best part for me so far is the fishing!! Though I've only got off the first island bit, game looks great, some nice details in it

No discussion on how to bypass regional restrictons folks. That includes using VPN's to activate a game early.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I think i'll hold off buying this for a while, as i fancied a replay of 3 and maybe give 4 or primal a go. No rush to get to it just yet.

Whats this running like on PC folks?? I can either pick it up in smyths on the way home or else get it on PC. i5 3570 with a GTX 960 (dont laugh..) doesnt even match the min requirements for 60fps high settings.

Playing on ultra at 1080 and getting 100+ fps, details are nice, gameplay is smooth, only trouble I had was the 360 controller didn't work but kb and mouse still probably better. Running on i7 4770k with 1070ti, nothing is clocked, uses very little resources, think was topped out at 3 gig vram used, was a tough decision to go to bed last night, and then again this morning going to work...

Installing now, some amount of weapons and vehicles thrown at you with the deluxe pack, compound bow is all I'll need though.... And a nice muscle car :)

Just note that all these items don't become available until you've liberated the first area

Of course mine didn't arrive yet. How is it compared to the others?

Just got through the first few cut scenes there and I'm already hooked.

Cant wait to get into this tonight.

I just played the first cut scene this morning and it really set the tone very well. Already feel more invested than 4.

Those issues/bugs are what I expect from a Ubisoft game at launch. A few patches down the road and it should be all sorted.

Got that too but at the expense of the rifle , assume it'll allow you to carry both at some point later.

I saw the perks list has a perk allowing you to carry more weapons, up to 4 I think it was. Will be going for them quick enough to suit my bow, pistol, AR and Sniper Rifle loadout.

Also, thread title looks much nicer now :)
