You just post similar content. Expect people smile when they read Van the mans posts.

I find them - A von B's posts - fascinating to read. I think to myself: Is it possible that he means all this without even the smallest shred of irony?

How can a fairly hostile thread like this on After Hours end this amicably? AVB even showed a glimmer of emotion a few posts back with his use of a smiley. I find this all very unnerving.

Lads, this thread has had an awful lot of bickering and borderline bullying from various posters. Cut it out or the thread will need to be closed.

Permabear and steddyeddy, the fact that you ended your spat amicably is admirable and a rarity on this website the internet. Fair play.

About as rare as your significant leading roles.

Thanks Nick. We've both got more in common than not. I've been on Boards long enough to know when to say sorry. Thanks.

I hope I wasn't the only one who got a kick out of all the squabbling!

Anyway, in case we get too serious now, here's a quote to get ya thinking. In the film the War of the Roses, Danny Devito plays a shallow lawyer who has the following quote:
My father used to say there are four things that tell the world who a man is: his house, his car, his wife and his shoes.

That quote is worthy of Saul Goodman. High praise indeed.

Taxi drivers always ask me without fail . Hows work ? That assumes a lot about the passenger based upon first appearances. A harmless question but one which might make the heart of someone jobless fall into their stomach. People can appear judgemental but actually just be passing the time with learned conversational roles which they consider normal and dont think about. You cant really judge someone unless youve been in their shoes.

Judgement of others is indeed an inevitable function of being human and is not a matter of choice. However, the principles with which we judge others are very much a matter of choice.

I find I look down on a lot of the posts I read on Boards.
I don't know why but for some reason I'd feel like a right bellend if I held my phone high in the air when reading through the posts!

Was there not a good 20 pages of this thread aimed at debating this, in the end you apologized and now your back at it again lol

Its like this thread is destined to be stuck in a loop!

On the other side of this - you can have threads which touch on poster's personal lives - traumas, family histories etc. - poster's relating personal tragedies and experiences in their lives. They can express their inner feelings and emotions with the relative anonymity of the internet - something they might not do in other situations - and it's surprising how many posters will chime in with empathy and sympathy.
