Apparently the loot boxes can give massive advantages to players who buy them. Also, progression is RNG based. All in all, sounds like they are doing their absolute best to wreck what is supposed to be a very enjoyable game.

Happened across that info while watching Total Biscuits latest video last night, basically cut the Beta to shreds as a P2W model.

Played this for quite a bit on Friday/Saturday, had the beta deleted by yesterday afternoon. Found this very disapointing personally, something about the controls doesn't feel right and to be honest I found the matches extremely boring to play.

Might pick it up when it appears in a sale at some stage but as of now, my interest in getting this at or near launch is completely gone.

Good beta and feels more like the original games but seriously, are EA trying to go out of their way to sabotage the game with that bullcrap progression/unlock system?

I'm OK with microtransations once they're largely cosmetic or don't affect gameplay much, but to have a progression system based on crate unlocks rather than gameplay is total horse****.

Yeah there’s a horrible whiff of microtransactions off the whole thing. Which is worrying.

The Beta has been extended till Wednesday too.

Progression isn't based on cards. Abilities and boosts are.

I noticed no problems over the weekend. No one had massive advantages. Even the heroes are dealt with easily with concentrated fire from team mates.

Thought the beta game was pretty poor, i wont be wasting cash on it.

I sincerely hope there is massive backlash over it and they do away with it or make it for cosmetics. (if any)

If I had to pick a poison - I would have rathered a Season Pass over this.

Game was only ok for me.

The squadron mode was excellent. Best part and really enjoyed that.

The rest - meh. Classes are stupidly balanced. Officer near useless. Snipers taking up to 5 hits to kill someone.
The dying around corners really got to me.
White flash before you die drove me insane.
    Melee system was horrible.
And then the crate system... ohh the crate system.

Anyway, enough to say that I cancelled my pre-order of it without hesitation. I would put money on it that the game will go the same way as the first. Plenty of action in the beginning. A month later it'll be dead.

    Beta’s now finished.

This was a day one purchase for me, but with the pay to win element looming large I’ll be giving this a skip until I pick it up in a sale I would think.

    Yawn.

Everyone was moaning about Shadow of War micro transactions and now that the reviews are in and people are playing the game the big surprise is no one had or has to pay to finish the game.

I was swimming in crates in the beta for Battlefront and progressing through the ranks with no issue. When you complete challenges you get crates. When you rank up you get crates. Each day you get a free crate. When you play the game you earn credits to buy crates.

I can't wait for the game and have no issue with try hards buying their crates in the hope of getting something decent. The one thing they can't buy is decent aim and team work so good luck to em :p

Yeah, Jim Sterling talks about apathy too.

If all of the lootbox modifiers/star cards/bonuses were available in-game from the moment you boot it up, and you could spend an hour or so choosing which ones to use and fully customise your classes, do you think that would be a better or worse system than the one that currently exists?

EA could do that, but they choose not to. You choose to buy into that system instead of the one that could be there, which is more fair to the customer and offers greater variety.

I got no cards for my heavy but I still done well for myself. Really missed not been able to play today.

Only managed a few hours in the beta and really enjoyed it, looks and feels great, teamwork works well and you can make good pushes moving as a unit, shame I won't be buying it.

Support that business model, no chance.

It will be dead within 2 months on PC atleast, found the land combat boring to play.
The flying mode was enjoyable enough but i wouldnt buy it just for that.

Yeah was thinking about giving this a go but pretty much going to leave it. Especially here in Australia I think it'll be a big risk, like Titanfall 2 there won't be a player base after a short while and the beta did nothing for me really. Actually the beta did do one thing for me... Made me pick up BF1 again which is a nice change from Overwatch.

Did you watch Angry Joe's video? At a conservative estimate of 12 guns to unlock it would take 3600 hours to unlock them all through the crate system!

Angry Joe didn't really know what he was talking about and was just ranting. He went on and on about Boba Fett and a card that would make him 100% invincible when jet packing and people could play him through an entire match and destroy everyone.

In reality Heroes usually only come in at the last part of the majority of games because you have to build points to buy them and you can only have 1 hero per team on the field at all times. Fett can only use the jetpack for a real short period and then it must recharge. So really when he's on the ground he's history.

Joe also got it wrong when he said the cards were the only way to progress. That'd not the case at all. He was looking too micro at the scrap. Scrap is mainly for weapon mods.

Credits awarded aren't based on kills. They are based on team work. The game doesn't even highlight KD.

I can see lot of matches where people AFK entire games to grind up credits to buy lootcrates to get scrap to unlock guns!

    Fcuk that.

If I can't have a Force Unleashed III (or a good Force Unleashed II...or Star Wars 1313...or Visceral developed SW game) then this just might do.

Did play the first Battlefront at all. Am I right in saying there was no single player in it so I could jump straight into this and not be missing out on any storyline?

Yes. The first game had no campaign. Only multiplayer.

Did you enjoy the second one? It's in my games list to be played.
Actually thought the first one was alot of fun.

Nah man, it just felt off compared to its predecessor which was a pity because, despite its flaws, I really enjoyed the first one too. Levels were more claustrophobic which meant you couldn't have as much fun with Starkillers powers, there's a general feeling of unfinishedness about the whole thing and the story, which I ended up really enjoying in the first game thanks to how they inserted it into the canon, was ultimately pointless.

It does look a bit better so there's that I guess? Maybe worth playing for science but just don't get your hopes up for it unfortunately. :o

You'd imagine there would be developers chomping at the bit to produce a killer star wars, story driven game(s). Whats the problem?
