I think it's fair to say the refereeing at the break down was a joke. Applies to both sides. CJ got a penalty for the Exeter player not releasing. But CJ was off his feet, so it should have been an Exeter pen. Also the amount of time players had to release varied from 2 seconds to 8-10 seconds before getting pinged. All very inconsistent and very annoying to watch, its a lottery at the breakdown with some referees

Amount of time players have to release will always vary no matter who ref is. Cant see that its a joke because of that. All depends on the situation of each tackle/ruck

I think the weak links are:

    1. Lack a classy 7
    2. The combinations. Beirne is classy mobile forward - the rest are gnarlers.
    3. Carberry is a flair player. Munster 12 - 15 are good but there's there's no-once at Carberrys's level to benefit from him
    4. Expectation. Munster DNA is all about backs to the wall and grinding out victories, out muscle, out mongrel teams.

I'd completely disagree with the third point. Munsters clear weakness is 12, Scannell is the best of a very average bunch and I'm not in the least bit convinced by Goggin as a potential replacement. Farrell is a massive athlete but he is really just a better version of what we have already in the centres, hulking athletes with limited footballing abilities who just boshch it straight up the middle. It's a pitty because there is a lot of talent in the back three.

Scannel via Noel Reid or O'Loughin (Since Henshaw is injury prone) is there really that much difference?

I think the difference as you point is not in the player himself it's the combinations.

Joey is likely to play better if the 12 and 13 have good footwork and better ball skills. 10, 12, 13 individually are all good players, it's the combinations not getting the most out of each other is the only weakness.

Can't agree with any of that tbh. Scannell and Farrell are both very good footballers. I'm not sure how anyone who has watched either of them play could come to such a wild conclusion.

Scannell has a very good passing and kicking range and has significant experience at 10 because of this. His passing and kicking is as good as any other centre in the country.

Farrell is a huge lump. As a result, he brings physicality unmatched by any other back in the country. However, his passing and offloading is brilliant. Its that passing and offloading that makes him such a threat.

Farrell's physicality is unmatched by the likes of Aki and Henshaw? Do you actually watch anyone other than Munster play?

At least we are at home weekend before Edinburgh match. They are playing Leinster the Friday night so good prep for them. Be nice to have 7 day turnaround if game is Sat instead of 6 say if it was Fri.

Have you seen tha size of Chris Farrell?

Yes. He doesn't dominate the opposition in the same manner as Aki in particular, or Henshaw. I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of too.

    Size doesn't equal physicality.

With a 3 week break to the Kings match in Cork I don't expect anyone to be rested. Plus Haley didn't play in Connacht so hasn't played 5 in a row.

Wonder if POM or Murray are included in the players with niggles from IRFU release earlier? No news is good news I guess! POM is made of sturdy stuff

At this stage it seems TOD’s body does not want to play ball anymore. His injury profile at this stage is on par with SOB. Back row is such an attritional position. I wonder how many more rehabs he can take before calling it quits.

How fit is Conor Oliver these days? There's a fella who it seemed like had a very bright future ahead of him and has had injuries.

Agree 100%. Every Irish back row misses half the season. Makes you wonder how McCaw got so many caps

Likewise Jamie Heaslip. Guess when you're constantly trying to poach ball, you take a huge amount of punishment and body can only take so much

Quinlan on OTB says PUC could be an option for Munster if they got home semi. Probably unlikely that Glasgow would beat Saracens but interesting all the same. From the 11.45 mark here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx3VezQdqEE

I'm sure Munster would love to have a game there. The central committee has taken over management of PUC haven't they? It's out of Cork GAA's hands.

Would the IRFU throw away free money? They get rent if the Aviva is used. Gate money goes to ERC. Also ERC may prefer the corporate facilities and all covered seating option.

Ah, the annual PuC discussion is starting ahead of schedule this year!

And, as with every year, it's not happening. Not a chance.

Iirc, the IRFU/Munster have agreed that any home SF in the H/Cup will be played int he Aviva - the only reason why another venue might be an option would be if Leinster and ourselves were to get a home SF and the organisers/TV wanted the two matches played on the same day.

The ERC are the ones who stage the event anyway. They book the stadium, promote the game, keep the receipts and pay the teams a fee.

From that perspective, PUC seems really unlikely. Even if the GAA were to let Munster have it, it would take weeks of bull****.

This is the only way PuC would be used. Aviva holds 5k more and the IRFU own it.

I don't think SFs have ever been on the same day

They (ERC) will never ever use a non rugby stadium in Ireland for a S/F unless for reasons like I outlined above.
