As a Leinster fan I fear that Munster will win the Championship. Just a feeling in my bones. .They are playing so well this season and appear to have more cohesion than our own backs.

Carbery may be the X factor. :(

Exeter winning is a much worse outcome. Castres would have had to rely on a knocked out Exeter winning in Thomond.
Castres - had they won - would finish on 18 or 19. We'd need a win or draw to progress. With Exe, we have more breathing room. Not much but more. We can still lose and go on.
In or out, Exe weren't going to send the B's over to get walloped. Their next game is in Feb so they're not distracted by domestic issues.

Hypothetically, If Exeter score 4 tries and beat munster in thomond (which is highly unlikely), do Exeter get 5 points and top the group?

Yes. As long as Munster don't also get 2 bonus points.

Munster are 4 points ahead and if the group ends in a tie, Exeter go through.

Ah yes, thank you.Surely though Munster couldn't possibly lose and get 2 bonus points? They could get 1 of they lost by a margin of 8 points, but how could they snatch a second?

If Castres had finished on 18 Munster would be in the exact same position as now except playing against a disinterested Exeter instead of one in with a chance of winning the group.

There is just no way playing against a team still in with a chance of topping the group is better than playing one that is out of the competition.

margin of 7 points and they can still get one for 4 tries. Racing did exactly this yesterday.

Score 4 or more tries and lose within 7 pts would give you 2 points

          We're on 17, they're 13.
Munster can lose next week and still top the pool. Our pts diff is +42, so even if Exe come over and kick 13 penalties, winning 39-0, we still go through.
The odds are definitely in Mun favour but Exe have an opportunity.

          No you don't.

The tie-breaker is match points, not points difference.

Because of the draw in the first game, Exeter winning in your scenario would send them through.

Ah ok, I thought they have to WIN while scoring 4 tries, rather than only score 4 tries in order to get a bonus.

How disinterested do you think they'd be? They're not French or Italian...

Lads, will be in Edinburgh at the end of March, what are the chances of being lucky enough to coincide with a potential qrtr final? I know it could be any day of the weekend. Thanks.

Think it's usually 2 the Saturday and 2 Sunday so if you are there weekend of 30/31st March you could be in luck! (Presuming Edinburgh finish ahead of Munster)

Any French team at home will almost definitely be playing on the Sunday

So a win, draw or lose by less than 7 points (assuming no points for getting 4 tries) is what is needed next weekend. We should do it but never say never.

Should we wear a Montpellier hat or something for the next week? That game is on Friday night so at least we'll know if a home quarter final is possible before Saturday. Going on form you'd have to give the nod to Edinburgh to win that, and Munster would be on the road for the quarter final :( that game away to Castres really haunting us. If it comes about like that, away to Edinburgh in the quarter final, with them in their current form, would not be easy!

Suppose it depends whether it's better to face Montpellier at home or Edinburgh away. Don't think we would fear many teams at home though!

Think Munster v Exeter is the game of the weekend. Pool decider with the visitors having the larger mountain to climb.

Exeter were much better in the Aviva against Leinster than they were at home. It's going to be a very nervy build up but I think that first choice Munster 15 has tournament contenders written all over it.

Yeah it's effectively a knock-out game so should be a cracker

May not be the easiest game on the eye, but should be some atmosphere in Thomond.

Heading down to the game on Saturday and will be my 1st game in Thomond. I'll be coming from Carlow so will be coming in using the N7 so am looking for advice on parking etc.

I will be in the South East Terrance (iirc) so looking to know how early should we aim to be there to get a decent viewing position?

At least an hour and a half. Its going to be a big game and prime terrace spots will be snapped up quickly.

(At the risk of jinxing it), is anyone thinking of booking flights to Edinburgh for a potential qf once Edinburgh result known? Just trying to get on reasonably priced flights before airlines jump up the prices.

QFs are set for 29th, 30th and 31st March. Wonder would there be more chance of 2 games on the Saturday and 2 on the Sunday now that it's just the 1 broadcaster?

At worst I would look to be on the terrace a half an hour prior to kickoff.
