Captain FitzPatrick's sister will be on RTE Radio 1 shortly.
Capt Fitzpatricks sister came across extremely well this morning. A touching and factual interview. People just take for granted what our rescue services do and the sacrifices involved. I am always humbled and say a quick prayer to myself that everything is ok when I hear the rescue services on frequency especially in the middle of the night as I ply the skies high up, away from danger and exposure to the elements. Let's hope the remaining crew members are found today to give some type of closure to their suffering.

The search looks very concentrated just off Blackrock Is. Likely they are homing in on the wreckage. Celtic Voyager specialises in underwater surveying.

Looks like she's on station now......

She's also got an underwater cctv capability - I'd imagine they want video and sonar data for the investigation and to aid the recovery divers.

I'm nearly sure my sons were waving at 116 on Sunday as it flew over our house.
I believe one of the crew members is a family friends son, it's just horrific.
We see the CG regularly fly over our house, the boys are so used to seeing them being so close to the airport, its such a sad day.

Then again, you are quoting the Independent, which has become the definition of garbage journalism in Ireland. I trust nothing they write.

I will only listen to what Jurgen Whyte and his team have to say.

There's similar stories in the times:

I didn't see anything wrong with the article by The Times (didn't bother reading the Indo). They just highlighted in general terms what can go wrong with helicopters and the lack of redundancy etc.

The Times also called out that it was very unlikley to be pilot error

The Celtic Voyager search area seems to be concentrated in an area about 1km to the East of Black Rock Lighthouse, it has done multiple passes over this area.

I see the Air Corp Casa is on station again

Such a terrible tragedy... RIP to all brave heroic crew ...

Celtic voyager seems to be staying east of Black Rock ? and LE Roisin coming towards it also.

You can follow the activity of the surface vessels on https://www.vesselfinder.com/
Use the marine map to see the water depths, 30 to 50m around Black rock.

Thanks - I was just wondering about depths.

Get this! "unlikely to have been caused by a mechanical fault",....what a load of speculative gubbage! Typical Indo ****e....I would believe the opposite to be the case, but we simply do not know yet. All we know for sure is that four brave people are dead. R.I.P.

Yes. it was discussed over this and the precious page.

Yes. Just adding my (very annoyed) tuppence worth. I hate it when uninformed 'hacks' make up copy on the basis of....nothing. Seems most prevalent in aviation accidents.

Even RTE had mil mi-26 images to represent the ICG helis

Aye. Looks like running lines, will be running multibeam echosounder, his track looks like he was pulling a towed instrument on one of his runs earlier too.
With him on site, just a matter of time before its found.

Don't see anything in the area with recovery capability, as yet.

Will they be listening for transponders as well as echoing the seabed?

I'm sure I heard someone on News at 1 say they'll be listening for transponders, but someone was talking to me at the time so didn't catch the full conversation.

Yes they said today they are listening for signals underwater, also said if they find the wreckage they will send in the "Celtic Explorer" which has a large crane and a remote controlled sub.

So, so sad. Is it possible to listen in on the search on marine radio or similar?

  • Registered Users Posts: 47 milewidehead

I hope the "journalists" are kept well away from the wreckage recovery process....there have already been some insensitive pictures of debris being landed. Some of these ghouls will go to any ends to get the 'shot'.

Casa 253 just flew low level over Castlebar on the way to Knock for fuel

She has a bigger crane than the C Voyager, but not a lot of flat deck to lay the fuselage down on. Curios that the Granuaile has not been dispatched as she has a bigger crane again and acres of deck. She's done this kind of work before too, sadly.

Looks like R118 also landed on Black Rock helipad for a few minutes at around 16:25.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles to avoid the DRS fee.

Would the crew have a tracker/locator device on them?
