That money was just resting in his account.

His downfall seems sort of quaint now, in light of everything else that was happening at the time.

So he stole it and gave it to her anyway.

Its not having a son that annoys me. He was human after all.

Its the lies, stealing and him being a hypocrite

By the time the media - which for decades was the biggest cheerleader of the RCC and its conservative, narrow, anti-socialist, anti-republican worldview - was finished with Casey, I felt sorry for him. I've never seen anything like it.

It really was mob rule, particularly in the Sunday Independent where mob attacks on people who are down is an integral part of the culture. Unsurprisingly, then as now, the Irish media will never report on all the decades they kept quiet about the goings-on and crimes of the RCC. Wouldn't want to lose readers for investigating the RCC!

Which is worse, breaking celibacy and misappropriating church funds, or raping little kids...

I know which one I go for.

The church went for the former.

Pope Francis is talking about allowing older married men to become priests.

The Trocaire scandal was bad by Bishop Casey, the affair and having a child was human.

Seems he was suffering from dementia in recent years and had been in bad health, it was not a nice way to end up, so it is sad, this after being exiled for 14 years.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,922 ✭✭✭snowflaker

It was a diosacean reserve account, not Trocaire and was repaid in full

I am not sure weighting things in context of other horrible things people do is the way to go.

Paul only killed one woman. He was a decent sort when you consider what the likes of that Bundy fellow was up to.

Got a woman pregnant and rather do the honourable thing and leave the church, he took off to Galway and subsequently stole funds from a charity to support his son.
Lived the high life in Galway, while many in the diocese were struggling to make ends meet, all the while extolling the virtues of poverty and celibacy.
I grew up in Galway, when a lot of people were very hard up, while this prick lived in a palace, drove a brand new BMW, ate and drank like a king, thumbed his nose at the law and moral norms and had his wealthy, well connected friends bail him out when all his hypocracy came out.
I have nothing but absolute and total disgust for this scum.

He made mistakes like everyone does at some point and he did support the kid when he was growing up.

Compared to that scumbag Brendan Smyth that we found out about a few years later all the hullabaloo about Casey seemed ridiculous.

With stolen money, which a supporter repaid only when it became public.

He also did a lot to help the Irish in Britain and also worked with the poor in other countries, nobody said he was prefect but posters calling him scum should be ashamed of themselves.

He Definitely hasn't scum, used his position as a priest to help Irish immigrants in London and later as a bishop was involved in humanitarian causes.

Better use than the church did with it.

He set up trocaire tbf and helped a lot of impoverished people

The Church haven't been so go with honouring their debts

Eamon Casey walked into a bar.

    "Pint of Guinness please".

"Sorry, we're out of Guinness", replied the barman.

"Ok, do you have any Murphy's?" asked the bishop.

You don't see any hypocrisy in a bishop, a position of leadership in a celibate church in fathering a child?

Just because confirmed you as a boy makes it ok? Strange logic. Shows how the church really can brainwash people.

Is a crime to father a child now?

Yeah, I remember the Sindo, slavering over ever last detail. They must have got months out of it. It was like Dallas with Irish people. Priests! Sex! The effing late late show!! Sanctimonious b&stards.

It was like the crime of the century at the time - and then look what came after! We didn't know how lucky we were.

    Who mentioned a crime?

It is against the laws of the church that he worked for. Did you not hear he resigned because of it?

Either the condom broke or it seems he did practice some of what he and the church preached about contraception.

Here's a link to the Late Late show with Annie

What are you going on about man?

The fact I was confirmed by Dr casey was an add on.

Now the question I asked was quiet simple, show me where he perched about celibacy.

You could do with a bit of church yourself I dare say,it might help take the edge off that hate an anger you hold toward religion.
