I haven't looked - afraid to! Switching between Norway and Swiss stores and using gold coins.

And then discovered that the gold coins are tied to the region store Ffs. 95 Swiss coins now, 400 Norway coins, 350 irish ones, god knows how many Russian or other stores I used. Pain to keep track to use them now!

    I've a problem.
I have my Nintendo account set to the USofA and bought something, wanted to switch it to SA when it announced I can't as there's unused balance on the US location, all of 2c!
So, I can't spend it, can't switch account, feck!

There isn't a surplus of items in the US Eshop for 2 cents

Just set up separate accounts for separate regions. Much simpler, and no conflicts/complexities that way!

I'm in the exact same position, been like that from the start.
My main game playing account is now a USA account and I had to make a new EU one for here. I've $1.98 left. I even looked into making a new USA account in the hope I could donate the funds to them but I can't.

I was going to try follow up with Nintendo directly to ask them could they remove the credit so I could change region. Never got around to it though.

Have they removed that warning that tells you you'll lose your credit if you move, but that lets you forfeit that credit? (I've only ever changed region using the website)
Clever move Ninty! But sucks for the rest of yiz.

But then what’s annoying is that all purchases are not against the same account. Some poeple won’t mind but personally I think having just on account is the simpler option.

Is is not possible to pay for a game partly with eshop credit and partly by credit card?

If yes I guess you can pick a $1.99 game and pay the missing $1.97 to buy your escape from the US store. Or just buy a slightly more expensive game that you want anyway and use the 2 cents towards the purchase.

Yup, this is possible. I've bought with half credit card and half eShop credit and half credit card and half gold coin point things.

the problem is you cant pay with a irish credit card on the us store so you have to buy eshop vouchers with determined money on it

If you have a look back a few pages there was some sage advice on setting up PayPal to work with the US eShop
(edit : ok, it was the mexican eshop and it's in the bargains thread, but it's still good advice. 1 out of 3 aint bad!)

    Don't mind getting smart.
You can deposit the exact amount you want

No you can't, at least not on the US eshop without a US credit card.

This isn't my first rodeo you know!

I had this exact same issue when I had to use a US gift card to buy Mario Odyssey, bloody annoying! Ended up having to buy a second US gift card\eCode from Amazon US using my Irish CC to get around it.

    What's the downside of that?

Less tidy in terms of online accounts management and requirement to log-in with multiple account to download all your games. Could be a problem if Nintendo ever ties their online service to purchases made with the same account (they probably won’t but the risk exists).

In short for me the main reason is that I like to keep online identities tidy and not spread them across. I get that some people don’t care about that at all though, but it does matter to others.

That was probably me. Simply setup a US PayPal account with a revolut card and use it as payment.

After procrastinating for so long and lurking on this thread i finally pulled trigger and got a neon switch. First impressions? Epic fun. I got Mario Kart, Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and Mario Rabbids (thanks Amazon DE), and managed to play 3 hours of Mario Kart last night, 2 of which was with my other half who isnt in to video games!!

Also managed to get the demo for Octopath Travellers, which looks great, and Kirby. Only problem now is im stuck in work thinking about playing all the other games :D:D

Any recommedations on screen protector to avoid the dock scratching the screen? Also any on controllers outside of the €70 pro ones?

I've the orzly on my screen, fits great and super easy to put on. Hardest part is not getting dust between the screen and the protector. I've gone through 4 protectors and still not happy, you can only try once but the package comes with 2 protectors. I've one little piece of dust near the center. When you are playing on bright scenes the dust can be distracting, dust reflects the light in some weird way. I've a new set I will try at a later date, going to try the steamy bathroom method.

8-bitDo pro is a nice controller and looks a good alternative, but is missing some of the functionality of the pro.

But the whole point of it is that you can bring it with you to work to play. :pac:

It made gaming fun again for me. I now notice I've a big dumb grin on my face playing rather than a frown.

Picked up South Park it is really well suited for the switch. Lego city undercover is cheap and fun too. And footy manager, Really enjoying that. But already have a huge backlog building up.

I've not tried the tempered glass one but it looks strong 2 for £7. I've the second in the list. The normal plastic sheet ones. A 5 pack is £5 so you can make a mistake or 4. I've one spec of dust driving me bonkers :)

For controllers you can get the 8bitdo. It is good for on the move as they are very flat, but no motion control. The comfort grip with joycons is actually pretty good.

You can get cheap wired ones in smyths, but i like the pro, you get a spare USB cable so it's like getting a portable charger so you don't have to keep unplugging your dock when travelling.

Got back on board with the switch at the weekend :)

    Are these dodgy?

Tempted to have an on-the-go 'dock' but reading some things about bricked consoles

I have one which looks to be the exact same, havent used it much but when I have I haven't had any issue.

Apparently you should only use the official charger with these "docks" to minimise chance of bricking.

Ha touché. However due to my daily commute (an at capacity Luas) my fear would be someone nudging past and hitting it out of my hands.

Thanks for this. Have really been enjoying the whole experience to be honest. The console is pretty flawless so far, and the games bring me back to the days of originality over constant sequels. Plus all the indie games available....Octopath Travellers, Oxenfree, Steamword, Night in the Woods etc etc. There is no chance I will at anytime be bored or have no games to play.
