Considering picking up a switch this week. Where would he the best (i.e. cheapest) place to get one can anybody confirm? Also, what would be some must have games for it? Thanks for any feedback.

Come on lads and lassies, I know it's a Monday but no need to be sniping.
So, keeping the rules in mind, lets be civil.
    Thanks

When I was looking a month or so ago every where was charging the same price.

Of what I've played so far, must haves are:
    Super Mario Odyssey
    Zelda: Breath of the Wild
    Doom

Thanks. Mario and Zelda were two I had been considering. Would definitely pick up Dark Souls when it gets released. Donkey Kong was another I've been considering. Are the games expensive? On par with PS4 or cheaper/more expensive?

I've been having little joy with Switch controllers so far, unfortunately!

I'm sure there's a pun about this and them being called joy cons.

Not so joy cons possibly ?

At least it's a known issue and nintendo seem to be doing well with refurbs. Do you need to send the whole unit back or just the joycon ?

My joycons remain a pain but I've yet to return them....
And now I realise that I'm over the 12 month warranty....
I wonder if they'll replace them anyway?
I think I've issues with them both.

Games expense is no more expensive than any other platform with the exception that you can shop on the Eshop locations and get better prices digitally.

You probably are going to need to factor in a decent micro SD card as if you want to buy games a lot cheaper and more importantly have a decent choice of games, you will need to buy some digitally. 128gb minimum would be my recommendation. ( 128gb is only around €35-40)

Aside from the ones mentioned, Skyrim is good in handheld mode and I have enjoyed the replay on it more than I did on PS4 or XboxOne purely because of the portability.

Although, if you are like many and you get Zelda, Mario Odysessey, Skyrim, Xenoblade, etc. you could easily get open world burn out pretty fast.

Fun games to play with family or friends like ARMS is worth a punt, especially if you like Wii boxing type games.

Also, there are loads of Indie games worth picking up and they are very reasonable from the Eshops. this is where the console really shines imho.

Axiom Verge, Stardew Valley, Golf Story, Master Blaster Zero, etc. loads more.

Just send the single joycon back after getting a free post label from Nintendo. That's what I did last time anyway, and it's a quick enough turn around from what I remember.

Add Steamworld Dig 2 to that list, great game

I find the games are a little more expensive on the switch / sales aren't as good but with the portability I actually play them unlike the xbox

I'm going to recommend two Indies, Golf Story and Shovel Knight.

Golf Story is great fun and one of the first games I played on Switch. I've only played a few hours of Shovel Knight but I'm really enjoying it.

€40 for the two and you'd get 40+ hours game time at the very least out of them.

Switch Firmware 5.0.2 is out now.

    – Resolved an issue that caused motion controls to respond incorrectly when playing games that use the feature
    – Resolved an issue that caused user icons for recommended friends to not display correctly

Can someone look up the price of Resident Evil Revelations 2 in the Irish eshop and if there is any discount currently running? Just noticed something on my account and now I'm curious.

Nail on the head for me.

I have a ps4 pro and one x at home. The only thing that gets used for games is the switch.....

There is sowmthing about the console that is just perfect. Thinking back the vita was to head of its time and if sony dome it right they had switch there but sadly they did not.

But for the switch the games I mostly like playing on it is the smaller Indie games as they are perfect for the console.

While the AAA I am like meh they just don't fell right to me.

Ah interesting, thanks for looking it up. Purchased RE 1 last week and suddenly RE 2 had a 20% discount, it's listed as 19.99 for me. Was looking through the list of discounted games and didn't see it, wasn't on any of the price tracker sites either.

Looks like Nintendo targeted me with that discount, didn't know they did that.

No everyone who buys one of the RE games gets a discount on the second so your not paying more for the two if you buy separately.

I remember seeing when it launched that if you bought 1 or 2 there was a discount on the other .It must be automatic once you buy one of them.

*it might be only if you buy rer1 you get the 5er of 2 !

Bayonetta 1/2 do the same thing, and a lot of devs us it to encourage buying other games from them. It's quite handy.

How are you getting on with RE 1? I have it a good while now, I like it a lot but the last boss is SO hard, must have tried to kill him at least 30 times now :-( I want to get RE 2 at some stage, especially because of the discount but definitely not until I beat the first one!!

    Cheers,

Just started really, ok so far, not much of a challenge yet. Hoping it picks up, but the jumping between stories is irritating, hopefully that doesn't continue throughout the game.

It does. But it makes sense at the end as it gets tied together.
The last boos is hard but keep going you'll get there.

Great! How does one dodge again, not sure of the button/movement combination on Switch? Anytime I search online it comes up for the Xbox or PS4!

    Thanks

I quite enjoyed the RE2 story. Bear in mind, this was released as episodes, so there's cliff hangers at the end of each part, but overall, I liked how they tied together.

Just come to the end of Mario Odyssey what a game. Highly recommended for the Switch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Grassey

Bought Darkest Dungeon, Bayonetta 1 & 2, Resident Evil Revelations 1&2, Shovel Knight, Lost Sphear, Don't Starve, The Way remastered & Unepic last night.

I'm really not sticking to my plan to not build up a backlog of unplayed games. Was depressing to see on screen 'not played yet', 'not played in 3 months' , 'not played in 6 months', 'not played in 12 months' etc :(

Anyone know of a decent power bank I can pick up in a shop? Have a couple of 6hr bus rides coming up and I'm not sure Amazon would arrive in time.
