Okay, I think I sorted my issue with dock to be useable in bedroom.
I have like 5m hdmi cable that I use for laptop. So I used that and put dock on the shelf next to bed. So its perfect now. I can play on tv docked or just pick it up next to me for handheld. Can charge in the dock too.

Finally tried xenoblade on Tv after 11h on handheld and damn, it looks way better on tv. Handheld version is reqlly gimped.

As someone who never played Xenoblade, I am interested based on the positive reaction here, but is there any game that people could compare it to in terms of gameplay? I wouldnt want to buy it and not play it. I have been fairly selective on my switch games so far.

I dont want to have a backlog like I ended up with one my xbox 360 and xbox one but with the quality of releases Nintendo have, I have a bad feeling that will happen anyways!

Not a whole lot like it. It plays close to a mmo but the combat is more strategic and balanced to single player and it will only eat up 100 to 200 hours rather than your entire life.

I think its, mermite type game. First of all decide if you like jrpgs. If you do, then decide how much, because this thingy dials it up to 11 when it comes to cringeworthy stuff.
As an rpg its good so far. I am not that far in to it, only 13h, but it delivers good sense growing stronger.
Its hard to compare, but it feels like an mmorpg a bit, with your party having tank, healer and dps. Not in a bad way though. The battle system will take some time to get used to and learn. One of the bigger gripes most people have, its fine when you learn it.

I'd say a screen protector is the first accessory you should get, I went with the Orzly one - Amazon link, it's excellent. Just don't bother using the dust stickers that come with it as they were way too sticky I found - almost left a mark on my screen before I'd even put the protector on!

I also got the Pro Controller as I'll mainly be playing docked and I personally prefer the feel of a normal joypad - and it feels amazing, well worth the £55 I paid for it on Amazon. Definitely not essential though.

I opened up my Switch to connect to my account, update the system, set up parental controls and accounts for the kids etc. Will be putting it back in the box soon enough as I don't plan on playing anything properly until Christmas. Which led me to having to Google how to power off the unit properly - can't do it from using the controller rather you have to hold down the power button itself for a few seconds.

A question to the veteran Switch owners - how exactly do I go about buying from the e-shop in other regions? When I went to change my Account location in the web browser it told me that would unlink my NNID so feck that. Do I have to setup completely separate accounts with different email addresses for each region and then create a user on the Switch and link to each? Probably just want to buy from the SA shop initially but I'd like to check out the Japanese store also.

Sounds stupid but are screen protectors easy to remove. Just worry about putting one on wrong
    :(
Also am aware I'll upgrade my switch in the future if they release an updated version so I'd like to take care of my one for the next owner.

Can't speak for other ones but the Orzly one above comes with a plastic tab that you can use to press bubbles out and also to get the protector off again - yes it's easy to remove. When I put mine on first there were two large bubbles that wouldn't come out so I just used the plastic tab to lift up the protector at one of the corners.

As for putting it on wrong - there are a couple of indented sections on the bottom edge of the protector - if you line them up with the same ones on the Switch screen itself then it should go on perfect.

    Here's a decent vid:

I bought the Orzly one. Not sure will it be Christmas Eve or Christmas Day that the wife will give me the Switch but I'll put on that protector first thing so I don't need to try and wipe off smudges or dust.

Spent hours playing Yakuza 0 last night on the PS4, it needs to be finished before I get the Switch or it will get ignored. On Chapter 14 of 17 so nearly done. I'm almost Switch ready!

I made a separate account on my Switch from my usual, and I log into it from my phone. From there I can easily change the region.
When I go to that account's eshop I'm asked for the password twice and then up I pop on the relevant countries shopfront.
I linked my PayPal and credit card to that location, pretty much fixed to South Africa, and I can shop til I drop.
Once bought the items even appear as purchased on the local storefront, accessible from my main account.

If you don't want to unlink NNID then yes one for each of the regions, Europe, America, Japan etc. You can relink NNID after though. I've the one Europe account that I just switch country depending on deals. SA & Russia being a key foundation stone of Europe!

Do you only get a NNID on a WII or DS system? I'm new to Nintendo but while I have an account set up, I don't seem to have an NNID. :o

You can also change the region temporarily online on your My Nintendo Account, go to the eshop on your Switch (which is now changed to the region you changed it to), purchase the game and then go back online and switch back to your original region. This works much better if you use the Paypal option rather than cards. Just make sure you don't have an eShop balance before you switch the region as you will lose it when you do change it.

It may unlink your NNID to your Nintendo account which can be easily re-linked when you switch the region back. I personally use this method rather than creating a separate account.

    Thanks very much.

Does anyone know if there is somewhere selling the screen protector from Orzly in Ireland?

I don't want to order and not have it for Christmas.

Im already paranoid that I'll mark the screen at the moment...... This may never make it back in the box........ :o

bought the Orzly myself, after applying the screen protector there were 2 large bubbles for nearly 2 days. I then decided to move the switch to a warm room with the fire lit and the bubbles vanished within minutes.

I didn't spot anywhere over here stocking them - only checked Argos, Gamestop and Smyths. I'm using the free Prime trial (used a different email address) and Parcel Wizard to get my parcels here quick. You should easily get them here before Christmas. Or if you don't have Prime then maybe pay a few extra quid for faster delivery.

Parcel Wizard seem to deliver much faster than Parcel Motel I've found, great they are.

Yeah I think it says something similar on the instructions - any lingering bubbles should disappear after a day or two. But I'm putting the Switch back in the box so didn't want to chance it. :o

DHL dropped Mario Odyssey through the letterbox this evening so that's the cyber Monday deal all delivered. Also picked up Puyo Puyo Tetris. Think I'll get Golf Story and Slime-San from the e-shop and that'll do me for the Christmas break. :)

Any idea how much space golf story takes up? Haven’t got an SD card yet and worried now I won’t have enough space for panic buying games over Christmas.

I’ve got a prime trial as well so might just get one.

936.38 MB according to this link: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch-download-software/Golf-Story-1285413.html#gameDetails

I haven't got a memory card yet either. Was looking at this 128GB Sandisk Ultra, https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073JYC4XM, but don't need one yet so holding off.

Anyone have any issues with game carts not being able to be read? I only have the issue with bomberman, my other 3 games work fine. Tried the headphone fix and the cart seems in perfect nick to my eye (barely used).

Found another tip to keep reinserting the game which worked after about a dozen attempts, then it took 3, worked on first attempt the next 2 times and on last try took 5 goes.

No sorry. I change around my carts fairly regular and never had any issues. All work perfect.

Bayonetta 1 is a download....if I have to I'll buy a micro SD card for that.

My family wants to wait a while after Christmas (maybe during the January sales) for an SD card since they insist that there'll be plenty of internal space, since I'm only getting SMO, BotW, and MK8DX.

The SD is an inevitable purchase alright. Actually I must check if I have a spare one knocking about. Maybe Nintendo will enable transfer of saves to the cloud when they introduce the paid service next year - it's fairly archaic the way it works now.

If those are all on carts then you're fine. If they are all digital downloads then you won't have enough space.

    Odyssey - 5.6 GB
    BOTW - 14.5 GB
    MK8 - 7.3 GB

Which is almost 27.5 GB in total and there's only 25 GB free space internally I think. Those sizes above might not include updates or DLC either.

    They're all on carts.

And in case the BotW special edition has the DLCs, that will eat a bit into the storage.
