By the way - that John Cladell (spelling?) fella that does the music slot on The Last Word - is he responsible for the music played on the station.

Assistant Programme Director according to this - details of their school of radio course. Saw this shared on social media earlier by Paul Stenson of White Moose Cafe fame - he's signed up for €1200!

"Presenting a music show" with Feargal D'Arcy.

Mairead Ronan had a very interesting and thought provoking topic during the week "what are your memories involving phoneboxes" This hot topic was triggered by the announcement that the remaining phoneboxes would be removed by the end of the year.

    Time to roll out
There may come a time, Davester, when you can finally accept that you are not the target audience for a weekend morning family and kid-friendly magazine show.

    Today is not that day.

    again.

    Time to roll out

    again.

Thanks Alison, refering to her class...and she does resort to the children talk when she covered Dempsey's, Anton Savage and other's shows previously....no need to get triggered about alison....why arent you defending poor Mairead or Ferg

Covering Anton Savage? When was that, about 4 years ago at this stage? (I am not Alison Curtis, and nor is my husband...)

That’s pretty high-brow stuff compared to some of the other topics she’s covered.

In actual criticism - not even constructive criticism - how did Dermot & Dave win an award for 'best music programme'? I mean, I love their show, for the craic. I find it genuinely laugh-out-loud funny at times - but best music show?! Apart from Cheese and Crackers, they just use the standard Today FM daytime playlist. Or am I missing something?

If you're talking music, then Ed Smyth, Paul McLoone, Dec Pierce, Clare Beck and the lamented Kelly-Anne Byrne shows are/were all top notch and don't rely on the same playlist... Watermelon f'n HIGH!

I don’t think they mean music show as in its popular for the music I think they just use the word music to distinguish it from talk radio.

I don't think we should be debating how they won an award for 'best music programme', but how they won an award, period. A damning indictment of the IMRO awards..

It’s not actually about the music played itself, it’s about the amount of music played. That category requires 60% minimum of the show to be taken up with ‘music content.’

Also in the category notes, it says: “Judges will be looking at the overall programme i.e. the music sequences, the speech content, the feature items etc. Whilst this is a music programme award the judges will take in to account the overall entertainment value of the programme.“

So it’s based on how entertaining the show is. The likes of Ed Smith probably enter ‘specialist music programme.’

Ed came second in the same category, though, didn't he?

I don't think the morning/day time djs have much choice in the ****e they play. Dermot and Dave definitely don't want to play the majority of their stuff. Fergal as bad as he is has had a few sly digs at some of the ****e he has to keep playing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,464 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

And didn't Dermot win best presenter or something? But not Dave.
Is that like giving Ant an award but not Dec?

Or was it based on solo stuff Dermot did like his mindfulness?

I meant as he was presenting the awards maybe that's why just HE won one and not Dermot and Dave.... you know brown envelope type of thing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,408 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Wonder how Dave feels about that? Dermot is probably more outspoken than Dave but I think they are both as good as each other. It's actually a very good show outside of the god awful music

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭johnire

He doesn’t seem to have figured anywhere in those awards this year.
