Correct me if I'm wrong but the very idea behind the Co Op movement was for the Co Ops to pay the best possible price for its members produce and to supply its members with inputs at the lowest possible cost.

Very sad reflection on the current state of our Co Ops, if a small private company can not just compete, but out compete our Co Ops on milk price and all over the country farmers are successfully able to get their inputs at a lower cost by other means. The growth of purchasing groups surely should be seen as an embarrassment to the relative success of the Co ops in achieving their goal of securing famers inputs at the lowest possible price also. Something seriously wrong when a purchasing group can get a better price from a Co Op than a individual Co Op member can.

Also should be remembered that the Strathroy price is the net price. No need to invest in shares or revolving funds ect as Strathroy are the ones taking all the risks involved with processing on themselves.

Lucky for him that he didn't publicly express such views before he got the comic gig. Doubtful if he would have got the job.

Fair dues to Bill and we need alot more lads with his attitude to fight our corner.
The problem is all the outspoken lads once elected to co op boards seem to hush up and follow the rest of the sheep!!!

Icos run a leadership program. It teaches people to follow the leader.

Most of us run a classes on our own farms where i teach calves to follow a bucket. Amazing what can be taught.

Took him long enough to grow a pair so. He's been writing that column for a long time now.

Its hard to take him seriously to be fair his viewpoint last year was totally different, he only turned soured when Glanbia clawed back monies from a fixed price scheme that affected him directly wasn't a peep out of him when he was sitting pretty with a heap of milk fixed, also needs to give it a rest about them cows of his you'd think he was revolutionising dairy breeding with his genetics, he has a good enough herd of bf cows but noting more, and blaming the weather and lack of sunshine on their current performance is a bit rich its been a great year for grass and milk production.....

In fairness there are those in whose eyes Glanbia will never do any wrong even when in black and white you can see they are the lowest paying creamery not just in Ireland but in Europe. Yet again in the milk price league we are near the bottom in this weeks farmers journal, also take alook at the graphs on that page, its not pretty reading

Very true some people are just blinded by the light that is glanbia

A few lads would want to want to pull their "big pair"out from underneath the lap top and do something about things they are not happy about instead of just moaning about it.

I'm all for positive thinking, call it moaning if you like but if something is not right, highlighting it by whatever means is not just legitimate, its a right protected by our constitution. Unfortunately people are too willing to criticise anyway who speaks out. We can all be found guilty of being afraid of what the neighbours might think, but in fairness to Bill better late than ever.

Really some statement from a person with no involvement. How would you possibly know what's required.

I'd be seriously worried if a person who hasn't his mind a minute was elected to a board.

How is glanbia paying the lowest milk price in europe if that price is true ?
Name and shame who is this big milk processor

If a French processor tried paying a price like that having tied its suppliers in to a contract. Farmers would burn the place down. Must be a very different culture in Spain.

how many of the moaning glanbia guys will get off their asses and do something like hand in there notice when the time comes around. no should be scared of change. leaving wexford when i did was the hardest thing i had to do , but it has worked out great for me and my fellow farmers who left , farmers must embrace change to keep the milk buyers honest .

I heard a good one lately from a reliable source high up ,few years back a kerry milk truck went off the road ,total right off truck ,milk tank and all the milk spilt .Insurance covered the whole lot so new tank and trailer but the milk was paid for at the processed price and ye would never guess what that price was!!!

Producing milk here for a French Coop that wouldn't be inclined to make farmers rich...
33cpl + vat @ 3.2p and 3.8fat (also getting an estimated 2.2cpl seasonality bonus). That price stands until end Sept.

For Oct/Nov/Dec I'm guaranteed a minimum of 35cpl with the possibility of 36cpl but I won't know until next month...

Normally the Spanish and Italian Coops pay much better than the French...and fairly obviously the French pay better than the Irish...

These lads were being royally rode and very sore about it. The company even had them confined to their old quota through a contract. They were under serious pressure as CoP was 32c/litre.

They were envious of our system and how we invested, it's all relative!!
