I have read 50.5 of those books, mainly thanks to my obsession with Jacqueline Wilson as a kid. I also read all of Dahls books, but I’m not the biggest fan.

My 0.5 is the Handmaids Tale. I had to “put it in the freezer” for a while because I was too freaked out by it.

If anyone hasn’t read it, I can recommend the Alchimest. Fantastic read.

I’m going to Portugal in a few weeks and I have about 60 unread books on my Kindle. Some are for college, some are school related and some are nerdy books that I’ll dip in and out of, but I have a decent maybe 20 novels lined up and I cannot wait.

I had to put American Psycho "in the freezer" for quite a long time. That book freaked the hell outta me. I'm not squeamish but by christ that book was graphic.

Have you seen the Handmaid's Tale TV show? It's very good. Very close to the book.

Here’s a confession, whilst we’re being honest with each other: I don’t like Sci-Fi or Fantasy.

    Gasp!!!

The Alchemist wasn't altogether believable though ....

    Never read Pratchett.

Here’s a confession, whilst we’re being honest with each other: I don’t like Sci-Fi or Fantasy. I cannot stand Star Trek/Star Wars/LOTR/Game of Thrones etc.

With the exception of Harry Potter, obviously. But that’s because deep down I believe that the MOM lost my contact details. But everything else, unless it’s believable, I cannot deal with it. I just don’t understand it :(

Heh, I'm not a big fan of Tolkien's overly descriptive writing tbh. Was never a Sci Fi fan really either. Never got into Star Trek and watched the Star Wars movies for the sake of watching them so I'd know what people were on about.

GOT and that type of stuff though, that's my type of jazz.

Well super honest time then: I love YA books. Give me a dystopian future with a strong teenage protagonist and I am sold. If it's fantasy, even better! Hunger Games/Divergent/Maze Runner.....love them.

I'm an embarrassment to my English Lit husband.

Star trek could happen. There's still time.

I'm a sucker for dystopian and apocalyptic stories too, YA or Adult, I love them all if they're half decently written.

That's interesting, would this extend to Sci-Fi that doesn't involve anything unrealistic, like say depicting life on the moon a few decades from now?

I read Hunger Games and enjoyed them, but not Divergent or Maze Runner. Couldn’t get into them. I did try.

I know, but it aligned with something that I was going through in real life at the time so it just resonated... a bit like life of pi.

I’m a scientist and I have a genuine interest in space exploration. The thing about potential living on the moon, its not really Sci-Fi because it’s not really fiction... it’s possible. But Sci-Po doesn’t really work...

sci-fi is sci-po as you call it. sci-fantasy is sci-notpo.

I’m also not into movies. I don’t have the attention span when I don’t have to think... I can get lost in a good book, but the movie version bores me to tears.

    EXCEPT!!!

I’m correcting exams at the moment and am listening to John Williams movie classics and it’s awesome. The ET music and Star Wars music are pretty cool.

WALL-E is technically post-apocalyptic and dystopian.

You know he could be a teenager for all you know. A bit of special effects and Jennifer Lawrence could play him.

The distinction you're going for is usually called Hard Sci-Fi.

    Like:
Hard Sci-Fi = Red Mars, the Martian, Sunshine
    Soft Sci-Fi = Star Trek
    Sci-Fantasy = Star Wars

Read it! Loved it. I really enjoy King's stuff. I heard there were talks about making a movie/TV show of it a while back with Matthew McConaghay as Randal Flagg. He would be perfect to play him. Don't think it came to anything though. They made 'Under the Dome' instead and ruined it.

I love the Mars trilogy it informed me on social issues and got me reading politics and political and socio economic theory.

Yeah I use it for recommendations for books more than anything. I find it pretty good for tracking all my YA novels. :D
