the idea of the holes drilled into the top of the new section is to act as " spot welds " on to the braces underneath , he will weld these up and grind em off and you will never see em but she will be nearly as good as the first day out of the factory !!

just these few little scittery bits to finish her off and she is ready for some serious grinding and cleaning and then prepping for paint

hi again its time for another " Saturday " update , so the welding is complete on the wings so i took to removing the rest of the paint and grinding down all the welds , i was using a kind of a scouring pad / disc ( not sure of the correct name , see picture ) on the 4" grinder , leaves a lovely finish , we had the blow lamp out then to heat and batter out any dents that were in the wings .

If you don't mind me asking, what are those pads like for generating heat on the sheet metal? I believe they're a great yoke for stripping paint quickly, but I'm wondering would you be wary of a panel warping with the heat?

while i was at the wings the brother was flat out on the doors , i got new 1" x 4mm strapping to make up the inside strengthening strip which was well rotten on both doors , he also cut out the new bits of 3mm plate to patch up the bottoms of the door skin .

now i took a mad notion and decided to line up the wings with the cab as a kind of a mock up and the brother brought over one of the freshly welded doors to see how it would hang on the cab , now bear in mind these doors were sourced separate to the cab a few years back , well ill let the pictures do the talking for now !!!!

yep , the bastard doors are too small ..... they must of come off an older model Duncan cab with a narrower door entry , the bottom of the door is 8" and the cab opening is 10" !!!! , so some more cutting and welding was required to sort it out , small glitch but just as well we spotted it now and not later on when painted !!!

so just to be sure i stuck in the two side windows and the back window because the back window is not off this cab either , its actually off a john Deere and the mounting brackets have to be modified to fit the gas struts but apart from that it seems to fit fine .

hopefully that's crisis averted for now with the cab , the owner delivered up a boot full of parts yesterday including the freshly set up lift head and repaired quadrant and also some new wheel centers , ones second hand but in good nick , the other is brand new but hasn't got the locking slot for the proper wheel bolts so we will have to try to get these ground in or machined in not sure yet , i will have a proper look at them on Monday , that's it for today but i should have some more pics tomorrow night , thanks for looking .

hi pablo , i don't think they generate much heat to be honest , definitely nothing compared to say a flap disc or an actual grinding disc , to be fair though the wings are made of fairly solid stuff compared to a wing off a car or something light like that which might not take as much abuse !! and i was doing most of the cleaning outside yesterday ( before it got dark at 4.30 !!! ) and it was a really cold day , got down to minus 4 here last night , first time this year we had to defrost the windscreen before setting off for home and also the first time this year we fired up this baby !

evening all , small mid week ( a day late ! ) update , we got some more parts in today including some proper bolts to hold on the weight frame and cab mounting brackets . the new back lights are actually being canabalised just for the rubbers , we have a good set of original lights that we will clean up and use with new bulb holders and rubbers .

we had an engineering shop make a new bracket for the cab ( the steel was a bit too heavy for us to bend and slot properly )which we were missing and i also got the " notch " cut out of the wheel by Paul Greer , the brother made up a set of brackets for the back window using some very detailed drawings / measurements and 3D graphics that were kindly supplied by the owner .

Can't bate the extra hungry baby milk tins :) I'm using one to join two lengths of extractor flue at the moment!

Great work as always, enjoying this thread. Used to be a few of these down my way when I was small, think they were ex-airport.

hi everyone , just a quick update and a few photos from yesterday , the brother has completed all the welding on the doors and he is getting ready to start on the bonnet soon , i was in the mean time WIRE BRUSHING so no more pictures of that , he cut out a full bottom section for the other door as it was a bit easier and less time consuming to do this rather than do numerous little patches ,

so today ( Saturday ) i was asked to oblige a friend who was getting married and so it was time to drag the old Granada from her resting place ( been so long the tires have developed a flat spot !!! ) and get her washed and polished and out to the church , i was to bring the bridesmaids and they were well glad of the heater with the day that was in it , freezing fog and icy conditions are the norm here at the minute and i was really happy to have the heated seat as well . anyway i managed to snap a few pictures of the " wedding cars " when i was sitting outside the church .

here are a few pictures from today's progress , got the doors and rear window cleaned up ready for primer , the brother made some new wing extensions as well , just have to get some thin rubber to mimic the wind proofing around the doors and in the space between the bonnet and cab once fitted , i hope to locate a roll of it somewhere !!

evening everyone , im back with another small update tonight , the brother cut out the only bad bit of rust from the lower section of the cab and replaced it and then he got stuck into the bonnet cutting out and replacing any bad bits , we can see some light at the end of the tunnel now and hopefully we will be out of all the welding soon \!!
