i noticed when the tractor came in first that there was leak at the back of the engine high up , so we have changed the rocker cover gasket for a new one and i also decided to take off the inspection plate and the rev counter drive housing to replace the gaskets on them as well just to cover all bases .

Love the pictures of the work you've done. Big Massey fan. Not to found of having the cab on board for some reason though, if I owned one myself.

thanks very much , i have to be honest i wasn't really a Massey fan up until lately but they are really growing on me now . i also think they look really well without the cab but you know what the weather is like in this country , cab is a must im afraid . :(

I was thinking that with the weather.

I think they look so right though with that duncan cab. Late version with the opening screen.
One question re the doors. All I've seen have the smaller lower glass in the door whereas your cab has the large glass. Did the 135 come with that door type?

evening all , its another update on the wee Massey and guess what ?? yep " wire brushing " again !! ah i musnt grumble sure its good to be at something ,

on a side note i dont know if any of you get a chance to watch much telly but i sat down to watch a bit last night with the missus and she put on " living with lucy " this week she was staying with Brendan grace and long story short he brought her to Michael Hoey's vast tractor collection / museum in lusk co.dublin ,

wow it was a real pleasure to look at and i made the wife record and save it so that i could look at it again some day ,
anyway enough raving from me about tractors here is today's bit of progress , i was at the wings giving them a good ould clean up , getting them ready for the brother to start cutting out the rot and welding in new bits .

not much to see really , the wire brushing is very slow and tedious even though im using three different types of grinder and brush set up , i give the larger areas a good rub with the big 9" and a decent size Jefferson " knot twist " wire brush head on it but after a couple of hours on that beast it would pull the fecking back out of ya ,
then i switch to two smaller 4" fellas one with a standard enough wire brush head ( you can see it lurking in the background of some of the pictures ) and then i have a 6" one on another grinder that is very narrow and great for getting into corners and stuff ,
bit of a dangerous yoke if she kicks back though , caught me yesterday unawares and kicked back and got caught up in me jacket and wrapped round then got stuck then shorted out and tripped out all the electric in the shed !! luckily enough i had plenty of layers on and she didn't get to skin layer , i did have my jacket zipped up as well but its flittered now and fit for the bin or the dog !!!!!!!

anyway im at it again writing a novel here about nothing ,

so i wanted to try a bit of an experiment on the little drive cable that i showed you in some of the pictures from my post on Saturday ,

i came up with the brain fart of making a sleeve using a bit of old diesel pipe and filling it with chemical metal ( massive stuff by the way ) then shoving the broken cable in each end and waiting till the chemical metal went off and hey presto it worked like a dream ,
one problem though the fecking cable has to run through a shaft going through the side of the tractor and its only slightly larger than the cable is itself so it wouldn't work ,

ah it was good while it lasted , so i had to go with the original plan and package it up and ship it to " speedy cable " in Swansea and they are going to to try and replicate it , finger crossed , anyway pictures .

so after i had that done it was time for a bit of a " welding " marathon with me cutting out the rot and cutting and shaping the new metal while he cleaned and prepped the old surface and tacked in the new piece , its slow and tedious work but you have to take your time for fear of warping the old steel due to excess heat , so it was a case of a spot here and a spot there and continue the process for every little bit ,

despite the fact that we have a good mig we still ran the risk of burning holes in the metal ( as i found out when he went for a cup of tea and i thought " ah that looks easy ill just weld away myself " !!!! bad move ) .

anyway i took a blast of photos as promised so be prepared for a barrage of yellow steel that might not make too much sense but hopefully you will grasp what im trying to relay in the pictures , the hardest part to do was the inner stay brackets as these are made up of three layers of steel and of course the rot had eaten through most of the layers so all had to be replaced , anyway pictures .

now the owner bought these wings from someone in the uk if im not mistaken and i guess the chap was in a hurry to remove them from whatever tractor they were on because there was no heed payed to how they were removed or by what method , we had to fill all the angle grinder holes and marks that were left with weld and i will grind them all back smooth on Monday , also there was a vast amount of holes drilled in almost every part of the wings for some reason so these had to be filled and ground down also , i know some of you may be thinking " whats the point , bin these and just get new ones " but the owner is a purist and genuine wings are a must especially as a mate to the Duncan cab that will be fitted so all this work will be worth it when it comes to fitting everything back together .

and the last three photos for todays update , we had to fold a piece of metal to suit the inner braces but because it has four folds we had to weld the last strip on to make the shape , tricky part was getting the angle the same as the original brace so that it lined up properly i also cut a new slot for the wiring to travel through to match the other side so when it is all painted up you will never know the difference , i know it all looks a bit rough at the minute but when i get at it with the grinder and flap disc and get it all prepped ready for paint it will look good ( hopefully ) !!!!

so then it was time to tackle the large top piece , he welded in a temporary kind of a scaffolding support underneath to stop her flexing and warping when he started to weld in the new piece , few more pictures , hope you like em .
