"A closer look at how some cyclists are bending the rules of the road"

Posted in their motoring section of all places https://amp.independent.ie/life/motoring/car-news/a-closer-look-at-how-some-cyclists-are-bending-the-rules-of-the-road-37594123.html
"As the saying goes, if you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive (Dale Carnegie)."

The lack of any sliver of self-awareness is amazing.

Written by someone called RSA Expert...

I kept looking for signs that its satire. I mean, even the byline: "RSA Expert". Who calls themselves that?

I'm confused. Are they an expert from the RSA or on the RSA?

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,373 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

I was interested to hear what "bending of rules" was going on, but there was no mention of any, just breaking.
I accept that stopping to wait at an empty pedestrian crossing can be extremely frustrating.
-very common, due to people illegally jaywalking. I am always left so redfaced when I see other pedestrians do this, gives all us pedestrians a bad name.

So, if we are beginning to see motorists respect cyclists more, then equally cyclists need to respect the more vulnerable pedestrian.

I'm sitting here on a fractured pelvis after a car knocked me off my bike. I've nothing but time and motivation to send daily emails. ;)

Expect you will still be correct however. :(

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Independent Newspapers. Your message has been forwarded to the relevant person and will be responded to as soon as possible.

    Most likely an automatic email.

Submit an FOI request to RSA looking for all correspondence about the drafting of the article and you should get an answer.

Poor sucker though, if I had to write that crap, I wouldn't want my name to be public either.

Wow. Was it a random employee who just happened to answer emails that day and replied for the craic.

How irresponsible is an organisation like that for writing such crap.

    Yeah I know, ridiculous article.

I’ve asked what the authors credentials are, and what it takes to be called an expert by the RSA.

And why their name and credentials wasn't included as part of the article?
