    In summary:

"On 16th October, 1976 Garda Clerkin, with colleagues Sergeant Jim Cannon, Detective Garda Tom Peters, Detective Garda Ben Thornton and Garda Gerry Bohan, responded to a call that suspicious activity was taking place at a derelict house at Garryhinch, Portarlington, Co. Laois. On arrival at the premises the Gardai began to conduct a search of the premises when a booby-trap bomb exploded killing Garda Clerkin and seriously wounding his colleagues."

    Next topic please.

IRA boobytrapped a house in 40 years ago in Laois that killed one Garda.

A few years agoJoe interviewed Tiede Herrema, the Dutch businessman who the IRA kidnapped back in the 70's. There were two car crash moments for Joe....

Joe: And when you were held hostage Tiede, did you pray, did the praying help you Tiede.
    Tiede: No Joe
Joe: Why not Tiede? Surely it would have helped you.
    Tiede: I'm an atheist Joe.
    Joe: *silence

Joe: So these IRA thugs, Tiede, do you still have anger towards them, what would you say to them if, God forbid, you ever met them.
Tiede: But I have met them since Joe.
    Joe: You Have!!!!
Tiede: Yes, I met them several times in prison.
Joe: And what did you say to them?
    Tiede: I forgave them Joe
    Joe: YOU DID WHAT???
    Tiede: I forgave them.
    Joe: *silence

What struck me was how the atheist forgave them, but Joe the Christian couldn't understand that.

Joe loves a retired Garda. Pity he doesn`t speak to any current garda about the shocking state AGS are currently in.

He got covered in dust. And lost his garda cap.

And he lost his sheriffs badge to a gaggle of nurses while recovering in coppers hospital
