However, I'd have a problem if she signed that letter to remove Hook because that then means she's completely unable to have a rational discussion on some of the points Hook made.

Does anybody know the names? Is it a public petition or have they kept their names secret?

Comments like that though won't help Hook. This kind of stuff is all over Twitter and his most unapologetic supporters are getting cited in the media making him look like a fringe lunatic - thats not going to tilt an ongoing investigation back in his favour.

He HAS apologised for this comments ffs. You would swear that all the holy Joe (Molloy) types on this thread never send a wrong word in their lives. He has apologised for what he said, and I think both sides have ackowledged that. The question is post apology whether he deserves to lose his job over this.

If George is sacked the names will be released, if not they won't. These people won't fall on their righteous swords.

Safe Ireland have come out and said that Hook's position is untenable.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2017/0913/904317-george-hook/

So we are to read that Safe Ireland think that it is "safe" behaviour to get completely hammered and go home with somebody that you don't know.

I swear, with all the statements from the different sides, this is turning in to the second civil war. :-) Brother against brother...

Apologies are not enough. WE WANT BLOOD.

As far as I'm aware the letter was presented to NT management so the matter is between them and the signatories.

In our case, we made no secret of our intention and individually advised the subject that a letter was being submitted - it's quite likely Hook is aware of who signed. I find the idea that anyone signed it in the cowardly hope of remaining anonymous quite improbable.

Correct- HE'S apologised. But the line coming from his support on social media is "he shouldnt have to apologise because he did nothing wrong".

Everyone excepts what hook said was wrong. He was trying to express a sentiment but went about it clumsily. But, the outrage on news talk led by the pip squeak Chris Donohue is nauseating. Chris and his former sidekick on drive had their show tank because they were a pair of PC clean shirts.

I get people as outraged. But I don't think its a sackable offence. If people showed as much 'outrage' when a politician does something wrong we would be better served.

Chris is an odious mealy mouthed sycophant. This guy never held an opinion until he was sure it went with the prevailing wind. A weasel with the personality of a dirty nappy and the charisma of a pot noodle.

So who are the cowards who signed the letter?
I'm sure there are a couple of household names Donoughue will be one. Sarah Mac another Moncrieff deffo Jonathan Healy Tom Dunne and most likely Dill.
I tell you this if Pat George and Ivan left the station I would delete the channel from the car radio!

If those people left the station it would go bankrupt. The only draws they have are these presenters plus Moncrieff.

Ah Pat you absolute legend! It's heartwarming to see someone in Pat's position willing to put himself out there in support of a colleague and friend.

I'm convinced all of these wannabe journos and Twitter people are living in a bubble that doesn't have anywhere near as much support as they seem to think. I questioned Chris Donoghues motives on Sunday via Twitter (which I don't really use) and the absolute softie blocked me!

Ian O'Doherty is on with PK this morning. I wonder will he say something - he really should.

That's pure speculation and while the NT office is hardly a teeming beehive, it's quite likely most of the signatories are people you've never heard of. Again, having been in that position I wouldn't call them cowards - you don't put your name on a letter like that expecting anonymity, especially from the subject of the letter, in this case a household name.

And they are correct, he did nothing wrong - he articulated a thought in such a way to trigger all the snowflakes, but what he said still makes sense whether you find it tasteful or not.

....aaaand round and round we go... God help Hook if NT management put any weight on the social media reaction to this.

Yeah hopefully they ignore social media and look at it from a business viewpoint - social media should never be allowed to dictate anybody's tenability for a job.

I'm not so sure about Tom. I doubt he's involved tbh.

My hunch would be looking between 2-10pm of the pre Ivan schedule including production staff, producers and perhaps a newsreader or two in there.

Id say you can definitely throw a few of the off the ball snowflakes like Joe Molloy and Ger Gilroy in there. It will probably be a lot of production and news staff. Even the tea lad.

Definitely Chris, Sarah McEnerney, Jor Molly, Ger Gilroy, Dil, Ciara Kelly, Henry McKeean, Orla barry, (not sure about tom dunne and moncrieff)

The guessing game is fun but it's pure speculation and also the whole "i want their names!" thing has a bit of a "doxy", creepy vibe to it. Like what are you gonna do with their names? NOT listen to the snowflakes you already don't listen on OTB? Send another strongly worded email for Global Village to ignore?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,545 ✭✭✭jooksavage

Also, really surprised anyone thinks Moncrieff DIDN'T put his name on that letter. Again, speculation, but the way he gets dissed on here, I'm surprised.

Rona Mahony was on with Pat Kenny there. I was expecting her to bury Hook, but they didn't speak about the topic.

I know you think you're the boss calling people "snowflakes" but it's the equivalent of wearing a Dunce Hat - you're just highlighting the absolute level of your ignorance.

G Hook is an absolute knob jockey, his view of women has always been through a sexualised lens, should he be fired? I don't know,..perhaps spend a weekend at the RCC & see for himself.

I think people forget the absolute horror of Rape at times. Just imagine someone physically forcing themselves INTO YOU!! Men & Women alike should be able to conjour up the sheer brutality, force and viciousness needed for this to happen.

By agreeing with Hook, that you believe women shouldn't go home with a stranger, then you are placing yourself in the position of being a potential rapist too or you plan on never, ever having a one night stand yourself.

As for his comments re consent in a relationship, I can't even go there. I don't know any husband/partner who feels he can have sex with his wife whenever he sees fit.

Shona Murray signed twice on her way out the door. :)

Fair play to Pat Kenny for not joining the mob. This certainly wont make him popular, but it's the right thing to do.

    http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/radio/pat-kenny-defends-decent-man-george-hook-over-controversial-rape-comments-36127451.html

^ That is exactly the sort of statement that I was expecting from his supposed friend Ciara Kelly. Instead of sticking her scalpal in his back.

I sometimes wonder what people like pat and Marion make of what's become of their profession.

In many ways the snowflakes are worse than the section 31 days.

Least he's got the guts the 20 don't!

Agree there. He'd be second on the list I would have thought.

Anyone that listened to any of their in studio interaction could tell they can't stand one another. It was highly awkward/entertaining while it lasted.

Heard their boss on radio earlier.

Looks like yet another quango for a militant feminist to get a platform.

The same type that'd be connected to the Catholic church in the 50s to lord it over people.

She went off on one on newstalks lack of women in prime time. The place is RAN by women FFS.

Apologies are not enough. WE WANT BLOOD.

This is what it all boils down to I'm afraid. People don't want an apology or to know he's sorry - that's nowhere near enough. They want to destroy him. Plunge the dagger in and then twist it. The whole thing is disgusting
