No, there is so much more suitable players than Cronin. There is a reason he hasnt been mentioned, hes not very good

    "Not very good"....you're funny mate
Clearly no nothing about rugby, Cronin single handedly won that game with his play today after 3 months out
Keep that comedy gold coming...hilarious to read

Your going to base knowledge on one game of rugby, thats something someone who knows nothing about rugby might do :pac:
Back to rugby, do you honestly think hes in the top lets say 10 hookers on the Isles. I dont know if hes top 4 in Ireland

Cronin is a great player, but his best attributtes are not the main attributes of a hooker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭sting60

The best front 8 we will bring to a tour test match probably ever but equally the weakest back line ever imo.Murrey can only start as a defensive no 9 as offers nothing to quick ball. All Blacks will murder our backs physically and to call Ringrose,Carberry as even been considered is ludicrous beyond belief not to mention Laurel/Hardy aka Earls/Zebo .

If he was fit the last 10 weeks Scannell wouldnt have started v Italy and Tracy wouldnt have played in the 6n at all.

Cronin has a shot at making the Lions. There is always a few players who are under the radar who get picked.

There is no outstanding hooker available to the Lions so cronin has a chance of a call up.

Are there guys here on some sort of smokes considering Cronin,OMG.

Thought Carbery and Ringrose went fairly well against the All Blacks myself.

Miles Harrison was certainly bigging up Cronin for the Lions today..

It's a weak position for the Lions; Best didn't set the world on fire in the 6N, Hartley's stock is plummeting and Owens is pretty ordinary.

If there is an injury call up needed, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cronin go.

Take it to PM. This 'you know nothing about rugby' is Kindergarten level of debating, and not tolerated around here.

Cronin has no chance of going on the Lions tour. Silly to think otherwise.

Cronin has great pace and is ideal as the last man to receive. I think that is why sometimes he ends up on the wing as if he acts as a link man he is poor.
His throwing is the biggest issue. You just couldn't rely on him to throw.

If Best didn't go on the last initial Lions squad because of his lineout issues Cronin is in a weaker position in comparison.

Hooker is between Owens and Jamie George probably - two reliable throwers who do the basics well. That's what you need from your hooker - anything else is a bonus.

I love Cronin and would love to see him in green as often as possible and happily in the red of the Lions. But the biggest thing going against him is that New Zealand isn't exactly huge and there are already 167 McDonald's outlets between the two Islands. Realistically with that many nuggets how much difference will one more make?

IS he though. Hes got decent speed for a big man, for me thats all he has thats above average. For me hes the definition of average. Like whats been said already, if he wasnt Irish this conversation wouldnt be happening

Ok I think he has a chance, purely on the base hes a professional rugby player. Other than that he doesnt. Id easily have Scannell ahead of him and I think we will see that next season, who gets picked for the Irish team is of little relevance to your standing in the game, other wise Fergus McFadden wouldnt keep getting a call up. Like McFadden, Cronin imo is picked because he knows Joes gameplan better.

I like your purely Munster "tinted" glasses
Attacking both players who play for leinster
You say Cronin isn't even in the top 4 hookers, he's been consistently in the Irish set up and in squads since 2009...won a Heineken cup, 2 pro 12s and a Chalkenge cup...2 Six nations

    He's clearly so average

What a Savage back row.imo the best in the world by miles.

Im not from Munster, I didnt attact, I pointed out why he picks Cronin as hes used to the system. The fact that you see attack in that is more your problem buddy. I merely point out weak players part the Irish squad. Theres about 6 back row players I pick for Munster from Leinster bar POM & Stander

?????....so Cronins been in the Irish squad for 8 years because he knows the systems so well, under 2 different coaches I may add...I'm sorry but I disagree with you
All that doesn't make much sense
I seem to get in trouble on here if I ask where you're from so I won't ask....but it's pretty obvious

Off course hes in the Irish squad Im not arguing with you over that there is a 40 man squad, my argument is hes now in the team because of the system.
Im from France and live in Galway. What difference does that make?
Where are you from? Not that I think its relevant to your opinion, I think your opinion is well wrong

Can I ask, why do you jump to Cronin's defense at every opportunity? Are you related to him or do you know him?

No I don't know him personally but I think the guy is very underrated and gets no credit for his play
You're the one who claimed to have known him mate...in one of your previous posts

I didn't, I said a good friend of mine played with him at Shannon and he seemed sound to me when I met him. Just in response to your weird paranoia that makes you accuse everyone of being out to get Cronin if they so much as suggest that someone else might start ahead of him. Lets remember that when I suggested Tracy could start ahead of Cronin, thats exactly what happened the following week.

He won't be on the Lions unless there are multiple injuries at hooker, it'd take 3 or 4.

    I would be astonished.

Despite Sky's efforts to make every match they cover sound like a Lions trial game it isn't. The squad will be based on the 6Ns and one or two may get in on the back of last week's Q/Fs. Apparently Gatland was in NZ last weekend. Maybe that suggests that even the Champions Cup Quarter Finals were irrelevant too.

Edit - just realised you talked about Cronin as an injury replacement...fair enough...that is possible I suppose. At best he's 5th choice though so may take two injuries.

  • Posts: 13,104 ✭✭✭✭ Maisie Wailing Beagle

There's no way Cronin will go. I'm making an assumption here but I'd imagine the squad was solidified and finalised over the course of the 6N - a period that Cronin was injured for in its entirety. He's not going to get picked.

I like Cronin, Munster should have had handled him better. I see him as a good replacement to bring on when players are tiring.

    Can't see him travel.

I think he'll pick the two England hookers and Owens. Don't see Cronin in contention at all, yea sure he's exciting with the ball in hand but I think Gatland will stick with the more traditional options just in case injury happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

I see it being Best Owens and one of the English, hopefully George. If 4 hookers were going I think Cronin would have a decent shout. But going with only two guys who could potentially start is a risk.

Exactly. He hasn't a hope of being in the main squad but after that, who knows? There's no-one in the first choice Irish 23 who's completely out of the running.

He'll be starting for Leinster in a CC semi final and Pro12 playoffs so he has a great platform to advance his claims.

After Hartley, Owens, Best and George you'd be hard pushed to name anyone with a better claim.
