Jesus, you're not wrong. I assume it's royalty-free for them or something!

I always suspected something fishy about the new music segments, maybe it's royalty-free or even payola.

Their obsession with Stereophonics, Spoon and that new Lindsey Buckingham song is ridiculous. I'm finding myself listening less and less these days and only turning on for Pat James and John Clarke.

Get used to it...Kelly and the lads wont be here till march....hopefully they'll have a better track out by then..as for Spoon and Buckingham...

Looks like Nova did a survey about Nova....

Nova’s CEO Kevin Branigan told RadioToday: “This research shows that the licencing of specialist radio services, particularly Radio Nova, can and has added to overall radio listening...

I have to ask why though. Kiddies are already well served by 2FM and now Today FM. We don't need yet another national youth station. :( If anything, these are the ones who wouldn't be listening to the radio, thanks to YouTube and Spotify.

SPIN have a bigger audience share than Nova.

I had a rare moment of excitement while listening to Nova this evening. Dee Woods (I think) announced that the classic album at midnight would be to mark Cliff Burton's 31st anniversary since his passing. I couldn't help but wonder, are Nova actually going to play Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets in its entirety? My mind was racing thinking good call, Nova, good call. Of course, my excitement was hastily vanquished when we were informed that the 'Black Album' was the album in question. I've nothing against the 'Black Album', but are Nova aware that it's not the band's only album? As they only ever seem to play tracks from that particular one. Also, if they wanted to mark Burton's anniversary, why not play one of the albums that he was actually involved in?

I agree wholeheartedly. There's more to Metallica than the Black Album!

In my memory, that was the second time they played The Black Album as the classic. Someone needs to go to the local record shop and have a look at the back catalogue. There is so much better from Metallica. Bob Rock turned they from heavy to radio friendly pop rock with Black. Master or ....Justice are miles ahead of Black but not as popular :(

This is a commercial radio station, playing a full hour of Metallica, and all anyone can do is b*tch.

    The problem is not Nova.

yes it is . a little more from the back catalogues of artists goes a long way. if people are listening to nova, then they will know the artists being played from the actual classic rock genre.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Classic rock isn't a genre thankfully. It's a radio format for people who can't understand music that came out after 1990 1992.

I would have thought 1992. I consider 1990 through 1992 to be the honorary years of the 1980s in all but number.
    In my opinion:
    00s: 2003 to 2012
    90s: 1993 to 2002
    80s: 1983 (maybe 1982) to 1992.

Well there you go. I'd have thought that this album marked their move from metal into classic rock. As posters here are so very fond of noting, Nova should (apparently) stick rigidly to classic rock and never deviate from it, no?

It was also by some distance Metallica's most popular album. The objective of radio is to get people to listen to it, so it might make sense to play the stuff people want to hear.

I'm wasting my time here, I know, because all you want to do is piss and moan, but your expectations are completely unrealistic.

If Nova were a strict classic rock station, no way in hell would they be playing pop singers like Jack Johnson.

The music being played on Nova has seriously gone Pop/Mainstream.
Hugely disappointed in the rubbish being broadcast in the last 2 years.
Especially the clowns on the Morning Glory thing.
If we wanted to listen to that tripe, we would listen to 2fm!!!

That's precisely my point. People bitch when they play something other than classic rock, they bitch when they don't deviate. Nova playing the Black album and not something more metal is exactly what you all say you want.

That wouldn't be it. If there's anything going on with it there's some sponsoring the frequent airplay of some songs. But it's more likely that they are just playing the same "new" songs so frequently because they are new songs of bands that would be associated with their target audience. That new U2 song is on the regular playlist now as well.

Unfortunately it seems to have fallen into the same setup as most other radio stations where someone has laid out a range of songs that have to be played at a certain rate.

People are arguing about the Black Album because the person Nova are commerating had nothing to do with it. You should expect to see question marks flying around on the back of that.

TXFM! would have a companion on the scrapheap by now.

That's not really what I was getting at, Former Former. I actually like the Black Album. It's a good album and a staple of the hard rock/metal genre. But the point I was trying to make is that Burton wasn't involved with it, so why play it to commemorate his anniversary? Surely Lightning or Puppets (on which he made a significant contribution) would have been more appropriate?

Glad to see I am not the only one who has a problem with Nova. Playing a lot of poppy stuff lately and I just don't tune in much anymore. Sorry I cant deal with Pat anymore, he plays good tracks but talks too much S!!!!E. Over and under......really.
