They are reporting he was in the company of a Hutch associate when he was shot, and that person was the target.
Police over there have said that Mr O'Neill was the target.
Don't know how they could know that.

There was a man bragging in a bar about a shooting he was about to commit, maybe he let some info slip?

    I posted that link earlier.
I would have thought they know more about it if they knew he was bragging about what he was about to do, like who he was going to murder.

They also said the victim was in his 30s in the same article.
    Not so sure it's reliable.
    It is possible though.

The intended target, who is a relative of Gerry The Monk Hutch, has been hiding out in the same apartment complex that Mr O Neill and his family were staying in.

Meanwhile the innocent father and husband, who was on a simple Summer holiday is still dead. What a few weeks for this seemingly simple little country. We export our gangland crime at one end in Spain and then at the other end we export our Corporate crime in Brazil.

There really is absolutely no interest from the state in addressing anything. Its almost like it wants crime..oh wait I forgot. Crime pays...for the legal system, judiciary etc etc. Obviously the ordinary Trevor O'Neill from DCC isn't as important as Veronica Guerin. Personally I think he is more important, because he had feck all to do with anything in gangland/crime etc. No movies about Trevor, his kids or missus and the devastation left behind.

Hear, hear. It's time to demand that all of these scum are interned without delay. I don't care what legislation needs to be rushed through or what the shyster lawyers that these criminals employ say it needs to be done.

It's getting to the stage where we need to go back to the State collusion days and both Irish and Spanish authorities will have to get together and have DK shot dead. This isn't a feud anymore. This is blatant terrorism

My heart bleeds for poor Trevor O'Neill and his family. They now have to deal with stories in the Spanish media saying he was the target

If anything good can come from this senseless killing it will motivate locals to mobilise against the criminals from Crumlin/Drimnagh where the deceased was from. Maybe a local protest would be the place to start.

By all accounts the man was highly regarded in his local community. RIP.

Would you protest? Like fook I would. Any upstanding member of the community, would immediately have a threat over their heads. These aren't a few petty criminals we're dealing with here. These are a battalion of psychopathic scrotes, armed up to the nines

This has to be solved at State level

Why do the Spainish authorities do seemingly nothing about these people?

Because they don't care as long as its a non-Spanish person: lived there for 10 years so know a little about it.

    The Indo has the story.

The victim had met Hutch on holiday as his kids played with Hutch's kids at the pool.

Very sad news, the man who was shot probably had no idea who he was and what he was connected to.

Last month they arrested a Polish arms dealer in Ibiza. Is it possible that these drug dealers aren't actually committing crimes in Spain that has them avoiding arrest?

In June, two Irish drug traffickers were arrested in Majorca. Last December, seven British drugs dealers were arrested after three tonnes(!) of cocaine were found. The previous month another British drug trafficker was arrested on the Costa del Sol.

They certainly seem to be cracking down on them now. I would imagine this latest outrage will make life very uncomfortable for any drug traffickers still living in Spain.

    That is ridiculous.
People forget that they have a lot of support in their communities.
You only have to look at the Facebook pages of some of the gangsters from Dublin, be them INLA, Gangland or whatever, you might see some people you know who are friends with them.

The only thing a protest will do is get you burned out of your area.

Why don't the Irish authorities do seemingly nothing about these people ?

Because in my opinion for the most part the people getting killed/murdered don't count.

A ****ing minister flys to brazil over allege forgery of selling tickets ?? yet Irish people getting murdered and not a peep except for the usual soundbites, once its kept in the ganglands and doesn't effect mainstream society nothing will change.

I know it's probably not sexy enough for newspapers to report it on the front page but the Minister for Justice met the Spanish Interior Minister some weeks ago to agree on improved co-operation between the Gardai and the Spanish police.

The Minister for fun going to Rio to have a lash at Pat Hickey is much more interesting.

I would march and did so in Limerick along with thousands of others when Shane Geoghan was killed.

I would demanding tougher action from the government, perhaps the introduction of the defence forces to drag these scum and their families out of bed at night. The power of the people cannot be denied. It would take a huge group though.

We've seen it in Limerick with huge protests where the Dundons and other families have been firmly put back in their box.

Because it's a nice little earner for them too. If you think some of AGS are corrupt, they aren't in the hap'penny place compared to the boys in Spain!

I know of someone several years back, handing over €500 note, to get off a drink drive charge

That does seem pretty sexy though in fairness, makes it seem like a pan european drug operation, doesn't get bigger than that. Not sure why it wasn't reported tbh.

    what nonsense are spouting?
the minister was going to Rio anyway as minister for SPORT - the tickets are not the reason for his visit.
