Seriously bad return on terms of medals so far. 1 silver.

GB have shown what concerted effort and targeted athlete plans can reap rewards. Of course we can't compete with that but the previous boxing years show what can be achieved.

What needs to be done, or is it even any point doing anything, if we want to do better.

One thing I've noticed is that GAA facilities across the country have vastly improved yet Katie Taylor is still training in almost 3rd world facilities.

Annalise will win the bronze if the medal race doesn't go ahead tomorrow. I don't get that. There's 2 days at the end of the Olympics with no sailing. Why not push it all back a day? Would be anti climax for her (and us) to win a medal like that.

THey have a schedule they have to keep to for all the other sailing I think?

Dane is ranked 4 in the world ... Scott 72!

The German fella Scott beat last week was ranked #14... so he's in good form

Well if he wins he will take his shirt off and roar like a caveman so you best be sitting down :)

Gold medal bout is about to start in the Greco-Roman wrestling. Ukraine vs Russia I think.

The Russian won it in convincing fashion.

    Let's go Scott.

    Come on Scott!

Hw might be down a few points, but he is certainly not playing like a 33/1 outsider.

One of the divers (from Malaysia) above Dingley just flunked his dive so that opens things up more, fingers crossed!

The Olympic and world champions both seem like they will be eliminated!

The Dane has got this won.

    Think he has.

However, no Irish badminton player has ever gotten so far in the Olympics, so well done to Scott.

You can't ask for better than a first ever/personal best in the games.

should be safe with a 78 dive

Did anyone see the Malaysian dive? What happened? He got 9.75 ... I'm picturing another Feck effort (see earlier post) or a Peter Kay style bomb

He landed on his front, face first.... bad take-off and hampered by the wind but Leon Taylor on BBC commentary said the wind didn't cause his problem, it was the poor take-off.

He's 68 places ranked higher than Scott to be fair. 4th versus 72nd in the world.

    Here's a thing I've been wondering.....

How come basketball players can shoot baskets from the other end of the court to the sound of shouting and roaring and whistling, and badminton players can happily get through a game with the spectators Olé-ing away at the top of their voices, and vollyball fans get to vent their spleen as much as they want......

but if you so much as think about opening a sweet wrapper or make the tiniest catcall in tennis, the whole thing grinds to a halt until there's monastic silence again.

Why are tennis players so precious?

Michelle Jenneke. She's a good athlete. 12.82. No Sally Pearson but a strong hurdler.
