The photographers around the gymnasts are a little creepy.

Fair enough. That's not what your original post implied. Plus, I think MOR did inform the testers that he took a supplement before they tested. A liar? Well, that's a dangerous allegation to make.

    no further comment. fair enough.

I was just trying to expand the impact of O'Reilly's action will have on the World Stage. We lost the the high moral ground when it comes to Boxing being our untainted sport (unlike swimming & horses).

It is a worthy discussion, not for this thread though :)

That is odd. One of the divers messed it up that last dive completely, hard to see how it got two 9.0 scores.

    4.0
    3.0
    3.5
    9.0
    9.0

There are 6 execution scores: 3 are for diver A and 3 for diver B. Diver A was poor, diver B was excellent

Do Ireland have a chance at medalling in anything? Is no return a likely possibility?

You'd get around 33/1 for no medal in the books I'd say...maybe even 50s if they were feeling generous.

I really hope Annalise Murphy can do it but sailing is an 'on the day' sport. fingers and toes crossed. :)

The O'Donovan brothers have a great chance at a medal too in the rowing.
Semi final is on at 1pm tomorrow in case anyone didn't know!

We have 3 massive medal chances in boxing. Would expect 2 at the minimum. Probably 3. After that hopefully we can squeeze another medal or two. I'd be delighted with 4.

Hans Solo just made a huge gaff for USA to concede a goal to Columbia . Tried to catch it but went through her hands and then her legs into goal.

I've a funny feeling she's going to medal this time. She seems to be almost a woman on a mission to put right the wrong of 2012.

Apart from the boxers and Annalise, I'd throw the O'Donovan brothers in rowing into the mix. They seem in good form and to have a great attitude.

From Annalise's Brother on The Facebook Page
Forecast looking good for tomorrow with decent breeze forecast for Rio! Annalise will be out on the Copacabana course which is outside the bay at sea. Tidal conditions and breeze will be totally different to anything seen on the first two days so should make for some very interesting racing. Should be kicking off around 5:10 Irish time. No TV coverage again but the live blog will be running here!

Fingers crossed she can do some good work. Annalise is a big strong girl and loves the windy and choppy conditions.

For anyone wondering about the level of fitness and strength needed to compete in sailing at this level have a look at some of the pre-games strength and balance training Annalise was doing last month!

I'd actually be a bit concerned that she hasn't made more progress while the wind has blown. Because, as soon as the seas calm, she could be obliterated out there. However, another windy day is forecast tomorrow so it will be another chance for her to push on ahead of the pack. But really, she will need the wind to blow all the way until the medal race to stay in the top three.

In terms of medals at the moment, it would be a disaster if Taylor didn't at least get a medal of some colour (ridiculously she only needs to win one fight against an unseeded boxer to achieve that), it would also be a bit of a disaster if there wasn't at least one men's boxing medal (most likely either Conlan or Ward).

After that there should hopefully be a third medal out there for us somewhere between the boxing, rowing, sailing, equestrian, golf, pentathlon and racewalking. Our competitors are mostly top eight to ten standard in these events rather than top three, but you'd hope there's a third medal in there somewhere for us. That looks like it will be as much as we can hope to manage this time around.

Oh the irony - an American gymnast using Russian dance music for her floor routine - you wouldn't have seen that in the 70's, hah! :D

    Stupid question alert.....

Do these all have to perform again for the individual medals, or are their scores here somehow translated for the individual competition???

That's Aly Raisman, reigning Olympic floor champion. She's Jewish and always uses some sort of folk music.

Yes anybody qualified further starts afresh with scoring. Qualifications on Sunday determined top 8 teams to the team final, top 24 gymnasts to the individual all-around final (all 4 events), and the top 8 to each individual event final. Only two are allowed per country so girls who qualified lower than that end up actually competing. Simone qualified first to the all-around and also to beam, floor and vault. She is expected to win all of those (the tiny Brazilian girl Flavia Saraiva is a threat on beam though) In the vault final gymnasts compete two vaults each.

Feel free to ask me questions or PM, I am a superfan in my element this week!

I think Annalise is good enough to medal no matter what the conditions (though windy weather this week would be a boost). I think if she's top 3 going into the medal race, she'll medal this time, it was sheer inexperience that cost her in 2012. She needs to have a reasonably good next three days though.

Must say I fancy Katie for gold. Sure, she's been off the pace a little this year but even a 5% improvement would move her seriously into contention to go all the way.
